Excellent compact point and shoot camera

Its an excellent camera. I have it since last 2 days and I am deeply amazed by the work Sony has done on this Camera. Recommended for all camera buyers looking for a complete all in one featured camera with ease of use. Camera is really worth the price tagged on it. Pros - 1. Excellent form factor - Very good design. This looks very stylish. Also the feel of the camera is nice. Unlike previous versions of Sony T series, lens cover is very easy to slide down. Blue color looks awesome. Ultra compact and light weight. 2. Very good Macro shots - Takes some very nice close focus shots. Never seen such quality macro pics in any other point and shoot cameras. 3. Low light photos - Good quality low light photographs 4. iAuto mode - Automatically detects the lighting conditions and shoots nice photos with a single click. 5. Touch panel is improved - Touch panel is very much improved. Its easier to use, navigate through photos, select shooting modes. iPhone like feature of navigating through photos is nice to have. Resolution of LCD screen is also exceptional. 6. iSweep Panorama - Has multiple options for horizontal as well as vertical panorama shots. Intelligently detects the moving objects and creates a good panorama with just a sweep. 7. Self timer with portrait mode - Apart from usual 2 sec and 10 sec timers, there is a very intelligent feature in self timer mode, where in you just need to place the camera and go in front of camera and it will detect you and start the timer to shoot photo. No need to run or wait for the camera timer. 8. Full HD video - Full HD video recording mode with stereo mic. 9. HDMI support for direct playback on HDTV. 10. SD, SDHC memory card support. Cons - 1. Battery life (230 shots) is less compared to other available cameras in the same price range. 2. The glossy finish on the camera body and no added grip on it, makes camera vulnerable to damages, as there is always a risk that it may slip from your hands. So I am keeping extra caution by using the wrist strap provided. 3. Zoom button is a bit tricky to get use to. 4. Multi o/p port is not easier to deal with. Its difficult to pull out HDMI cable once inserted. Also the once which I got from the box, is kind of loose and when I try to pull HDMI cable out, its not that easy. Sony should have given at least a USB connection directly in camera. Recommendations for buyers - 1. Also buy the Sony accessory kit ACC-CTBN as well. This kit has an extra battery, which is a must when you are planning a full day visit to a theme park, or going for a camp etc. Also this kit has a camera case from Sony and a very nice 3 inch tripod. Both spare battery and tripod along with camera can easily fit in this camera case. 2. Use Cyberlink Power DVD 10 to play the AVCHD video recorded by camera on your PC. Media player is not a good option to play AVCHD. 4. Prefer Blue color as the finish is glossy and goes very nice with blue. Once again, this is a must have camera and anybody looking out for a point and shoot camera, must go for it. This has almost everything in it.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7

The picture quality is excellent compared to other cameras of similar size, but not rival a DSLR. significant noise reduction processing is the higher ISO sensitivity, but appears to be very well done and produces some of the best results I ve seen. Add to that the laptop twilight mode, and you are the winner. In this mode, the camera captures six separate exposures, and points together to reduce camera shake to choose the best information on all the frames. It seems to work properly. http://www.thesonyworld.com/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-tx7.html

AVHD format not compatible with MAC!

Of course they don't tell you that the .mts format for the AVHD video is not compatible with mac and you need to spend $40 to buy another 3rd part program to convert your video just to be able to watch it on your computer. I don't understand why Sony can't just create a program that does that for you and have it come with the camera! Anyway it has a nice design at least but I'm disappointed with the image quality... it's decent I guess but nothing like what I expected.

Love the 1080i HD

However , I agree that waterproof would have been a great addition to an already great camera

WAY TO GO SONY!!!

This is my third Sony cyber shot and each one was better than the one before. I can't rave enough about this one. From it's sleek design to it's ease of use. The smile detection button is awesome, I've had a lot of fun with that one. The picture quality is sharp and crisp and the pictures taken at dusk or in low light are amazing. If you have been wondering whether or not you should get one, JUST DO IT. You will not regret it. The EASY mode makes it so simple if you want to just click and go. I handed my camera to a very young boy to take a picture and it was great. Also I have to rave about the panoromic scan feature, I took pics at an old Southern plantation and everyone who sees it just can't believe the quality. I could go on forever. Next time I come on I will add a picture. SMILE you never know who is taking your picture.

Superior Low Light

I love the low light capability of this camera. I no longer need to buy expensive prime lenses. The HD video capability is nice too. I would love for this product to have waterproof and dust-proof capabilities in its future models. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a point and shoot camera. You will not be disappointed.

GREAT value for the cost

This camera is amazing and worth every penny. It is so light-wieght and easy to use. The color quality on the camera can't be matched, too bad it seems to have color fade when on the computer, but on the other hand when the pictures are printed it is as virbrant as on the camera. (I think it may just be the computer monitor.) Yes, the battery life may be short, but if you buy additional batteries you can charge them and bring them along with you, which is about the same as using traditional AA's. My favorite part would have to be the "auto-focus" though, because you can choose the subject of your picture, which is just spectacular. Although it has a "paint" mode, I can't seem to find a "sepia" or "B&W" setting which is kind of a disappointment. The paint mode is nice though, don't get me wrong, but it could be better if it could 'insert text' instead of strictly using your finger. Overall this camera is most definately the best I have ever owned and is so great, I am in absolute love with it.

Fragile

The whole purpose of having a point and shot camera which is slim enough to slip into a pocket or purse, so you can take it with you wherever you go, is that you actually could do that, but the TX7 probed to me wrong. I bought the camera with a nice case to protect it but even with that added protection the screen cracked. I am very disappointed, if you design a product that is going to be taken to birthdays, trips, holydays, etc. it should be made to withstand does simple situations instead you have to treat it like a case full of eggs. I have had a touch screen phone in my pocket for 3 years which has fallen many times and the screen doesn’t even have a scratch. In addition I haven´t had a problem with the memory stick but I had an SD memory too, which I had formatted with the camera as the manual tells you but many times I had an error message telling me to reinsert the memory card (an SD). This was completely annoying

Had this camera for a little over a week

The panoramic shots were easy to take and you don't notice "stitching" that typically occurs when using software based solutions (Photoshop, etc). I also used the 1080i video mode which came out smooth and clear. I still need to try some of the other modes like HDR backlight correction. My only small gripe is that it's sometimes easy to inadvertently press icons on the touch screen. It would've be nice to add a "hold" switch to disable the touch screen. Maybe it's just my own clumsy fingers.

Great Camera

so many features and easy to use them, but it´s really a shame that this cam doesn´t have the water proof system like the TX5, and also is a little bit bigger than the others TX models. If I would have known all this before, maybe I would have bought the TX5.

Great Camera, Great Features

This camera is great, i had a sony this and have been contemplating me buying a new one for a long time, and this was the best buy i ever made. I am one to take may shots per trip and with this new panoramic view shot, its opened up a new world of photography. being able to scroll left to right and right to left is great.. the up and down feature really isnt any different from taking a vertical shot. The price is kinda high i think.. but if you buy this you should not be buying another camera for atleast 3 years.. unless something major comes out.. so in that respect its great. bottom line.. buy the camera and enjoy life through a new perspective.

i love every thing about this camera. the bad thing about it is when you use it for 5-10 recording and shot it down. the battery will not hold charge. don't know why. i wish the camera will record for more than 29 minutes at a time. beside that it is very very very good

Almost Perfect!

I recently bought this camera for the specific purpose to take pictures and shoot video at a small concert where I knew there was going to be very limited light sources. I read about the Exmor R sensor but wasn't expecting such amazing results. With very little light inside the small compact venue, I got really nice shots of the stage and the singer. The Hand-Held Twilight mode was what really shined in this very dark setting. What really blew me away was the quality of the 1080p HD video under the same conditions. There was very little noise during playback and the stereo mic picked up very acceptable audio. As for the cons. The front sliding panel could've used a little notch or grip to help slide it open or closed. The surface is really smooth and sometimes it's hard to operate. The biggest downside is that the battery really does not hold up. I bought an additional battery because of the reviews I've read about this camera. After an afternoon of shooting pictures around the city, I had to switch out the battery during the middle of the concert. This is why I give it a 4 start in reliability. I highly suggest you get a nice case that has a compartment for a spare battery or two. The supplied battery charger also takes a very, very, very long time to fully charge what is a relatively low-capacity battery. Sony does have a separate quick charge plug, but for the price of this camera, that charger should've been included instead of the one supplied. I've purchased two additional batteries and the quick charger for an additional cost of about $140 more. This is why I give it a 3 start in value. The dock is very handy to view and play your media through an HDTV, but it does not come with an AC adapter. So be weary when streaming large movie files to your HDTV because the battery will drain quickly. I purchased the additional AC adapter, but again, this should have been included with the price. Baring those battery and charging issues, I think the performance of this camera really does make up for it's faults. There is no other ultra-compact point and shoot on the market that has the same feature set and HD movie mode that the TX7 has. I've owned (and returned) both the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi8 but their lack of optical zoom, horrible low-light sensitivity, lack of image stabilization and not having the ability to also shoot 10MP photos makes this an easy choice.

What a camera!

I mostly shoot semi-pro equipment, but always longed for a point and shoot that could deliver quality near what I get with those film and digital cameras. When I saw the commercial for this camera I loved the sweep panorama idea and as I shoot a lot of panos I bought it for that feature alone. I did not expect to find everything else. The HDR is hot and doesn't require Photoshop like my other digital images do. The twilight hand held mode and low light capability are surprisingly good. Finally I have a small camera I can toss in my bag and not miss out on a photo opportunity on a business trip or quick overnighter for fun.

very very disappointing camera in some conditions

see the cons, despite what sony advertises, the pictures taken in low light are almost always (9 out of 10) very blurry and unsharp. Even with flash on, non moving objects and keeping the camera steady, no way I can take a decent picture in darkness. And I am no camera dummie, I even have a Canon 40D.

Amazing Digital Point & Shoot Camera

I have owned many digital cameras for 12+ years. Even though I have tried Casio, Olympus, and others; I always came back to Canon because the seemed to have the best image quality and latest technology. Previously, some Sony Cyber-shot digital cameras were nice, but not always the best image quality. With Sony's 2010 digital cameras, they have taken the lead (sorry Canon). A lot of research has shown this model (and the HX5V) to be at the top of the list for Digital Point and Shoot.

Another amazing sony product

This is my second point and shoot Sony camera. The picture quality on this new TX7 is remarkably clear. I think what you will find with this camera that is leaps and bounds ahead of any other pocket size camera, like other reviews have mentioned, is the ability to capture extremely clear images in such low light without a flash. Most picture settings where you assume would be dark and unusable come out just like as if you had used a flash. The 1080 HD videos are also amazing, as is the panorama setting which is something you will find yourself using over and over again like an itch that you want to scratch in the best possible sense. I love this camera and can't wait to get the underwater housing for it so I can take underwater panorama pictures which has me jumping for joy in anticipation of the incredible images. I highly recommend this camera if you are looking for an amazing camera that has features you won't find on other top of the line digital cameras.

Just what I thought it was going to be GREAT!

I bought a dsc-w220 and I wasnt keen on it. The little movement cause blur everywhere. I wasnt sure if I should go with another sony but after reading alot of reviews I decided to give it a shot. Yes the price is a little high but I used my sony reward points. The camera is nice in design.Small! Now the picture quality is what can kill a camera. Not this one. I was surprised at how great the pictures looked. From low light with the back lit hdr to the mutliple pictures it takes and combines to creat an image were all great! Low to bright lights this camera really won me over. Im glad I got this before I went on vacation! The only downside for me is the slide is tough to slide down the no grip or ridges, but over time that could easily loosen up. The battery is short. You only get a short time with the battery.

Stressing Amazing Low Light Capability

Just wanted to emphasize that almost all limitations of the flash can be easily resolved using (1) hand-held twilight mode (2) EV scale and/or (3) ISO choices. If you choose SD media, I suggest SDHC Class 6 or 10. This model is a milestone achievement. All time reading the 168 page Handbook will be very informative and well-spent.

Absolutely Fantastic Camera, a little pricey

Let me start by saying I have a Canon XS DSLR which I love, so my comparison to photos to that is probably very biased. The DSC-TX7 is an absolutely fantastic looking camera. No one has a camera this streamlined and small. AND THAT is exactly why I bought it. I was really hoping that the photos would turn out little bit better (the photos are still fantastic) but again, I was comparing to a DLSR, which really is no comparison. The lens in the TX7 is non-telescoping so you don't get as good of a photo as a telescoping lens or a DSLR, but there is no trading the sleek-ness of this camera. I can easily fit in my purse or pocket, or a jacket pocket. For snapshots it's perfect, and the touch screen makes it SOOOO easy to use. Matter-a-fact it has an "easy mode" which if you don't feel like thinking, or if you need to hand it to someone to take a picture of you, it makes it dummy-proof. The 2nd best thing (next to it's size) is the panoramic mode. That feature is super-sweet and getting lots in a photo it's a great feature. Imagine being able to shoot a whole room full of people and get everyone in the shot! The auto-focus or the way you can choose where to focus is pretty cool, and easy to maneuver. The HD video and the stereo mic is nice if you intend to watch directly to TV, but keep in mind the 1080i HD video takes up a lot of memory, so be sure to by a big memory card or SD card (yes, a sony camera that takes SD!). It's now March 2010, and i contemplated getting the all-weather, shock-proof DSC-TX5 that is supposed to come out in April 2010 for $350, BUT... it's seems to be the TX1 in an all-weather body. The TX1 is great, but the main differences between the TX1/TX5 and the TX7 seem to be the mono mic, the 720P HD vs 1080 HD, and the 3.0 (TX1/TX5) in touch screen vs 3.5 (TX7) in touch screen. Decide if you need an all weather body, and if you don't I would go for the TX7. The technology is newer, and it won't disappoint. Every day, I find a new feature that's pretty awesome. Oh, one last thing, the Silver color is really more like a gunmetal gray, and is actually nicer than I thought. Invest in a small microfiber/eyeglass cleaning cloth to keep handy, the touch screen gets really finger-printy, but it wipes easily. I wish there was a 4.5 star rating for this camera, because I would take a little off because of the price. $400 is the top of the market, there are a few other cameras that come close like the Nikon S70 for $300 or the Samsung TL225 Dual view for $350 , BUT.. it was a trade off for having such a sleek camera with the Panoramic mode. You definitely get what you pay for, because this camera is really is feature packed. I have been using it for a couple weeks, and I love it.

the best camera i have purchased

i took this camera on a trip to Europe and another guy had a cannon that was a few years old. after the first day he didnt use his anymore and wanted me to take pics to send him. im not a snob when it comes to sony, i dont care about the brand as long as it works. This camera takes amazing photos. its dummy proof when you put it in easy mode. well worth the money. I have professional looking photos now thanks to this camera. i would recommend purchasing another battery if you are going to take a lot of photos and using it all day and especially if you want to review the pics you have taken throughout the day. i also took a full HD movie inside a bar and it turned out pretty good considering the low light.

Very good compact camera

This is a great camera. The only thing I would change is the touch screen, it works but when you are trying to scroll through the photos it will zoom in instead of scroll, it's kind of annoying. The 16:9 shots are only at 7 mp at the max setting but they still look good. Panorama mode is really cool. The ease of switching between recording video and taking still images is very convenient and fast. It's extremely compact for what it does. If you are thinking about buying a camera, I think you will be happy with the tx7. Another thing that annoyed me was that the dock for the camera didn't come with a power cable. The power cable runs $40. The dock does have hdmi out, so you can watch video and look at pictures on the hdtv via the dock, unless you have a tv that has a sdhc or other type of memory card slot. I love this camera, but the price is a little steep, especially since I now have to buy a power cable for the dock. The dock itself doesn't charge the battery which is also annoying. A great camera overrall, you won't be disappointed, you'll just be broke after buying everything you need for it.

awesome and a social camera!

excellent camera with a very cool elegant design. sleek and slim but not necessarily light (as i thought it was) and has a sturdy feel in your hand. some smudge may be visible on its shiny exterior and of course its screen but it's easy to wipe 'em off.

Awesome camera

I can't say enough about how great this camera is. So long to Canon and your blurry photos!! I would give camera 5 stars but what's with the missing color effects? No sepia, no black and white??..come on Sony. For a 400 dollar P&S camera, why would you remove this minor feature that most cameras at half the prices come with?...ugh

Couldn't ask for more

I am extremely picky when it comes to buying any electronics. i want the greatest thing in my price range. and something that will function for me. I have looked at the nikon coolpix s70, and i was one click away from buying it before i came and checked the sony site out of curiousity. i found the tx7 and couldn't do without. and when i got it i was even more impressed. i am able to shot my youtube videos with great quality, 1080 or 720 hd. i am able to take pictures that people don't believe came from a pocket cam. i couldn't ask for a better interface. i really think its going to be hard for anyone to top this camera. atleast within the year. but if you are looking for a camera today you should go with the tx7 :-)

First Sony's Full HD Point and Shot Camera

Well, this camera having lots of nice features and it's really cool but the price is consider high. The memory stick is hard to take out. UI is slow than previous T series and the touch sensitivity is improved compared to previous T models but still can be improved to be more sensitive. I'm hopefully to see there will have accelerometer in T series camera. Full HD record is record into AVCHD (weird) and frankly spoken that it's hard to upload in youtube as it always fail in uploading.
