This point and shoot exceeds expectations

The camera is just what I was looking for. I have a Nikon D850 with many lenses but when traveling I often want a small camera that I can carry without compromising the quality of the photos. Unfortunately with the current restrictions due to covid-19 i have had four major trips cancelled and it appears that may be more will also be cancelled. I do carry this camera when I travel locally by auto and find it is very good with pictures I want without planning a major camera outing.

Good kick around camera for professionals

I bought this to have something lighter than my DSLR but could still give me manual control over my shots. I think this will be perfect for travel and situations where I wish I had my camera but didn't bring the full monty- it's capable of taking beautiful images. It would never replace my pro camera, but it's a great little camera.

Superb Camera

Great camera. I love the way it handles. Everything is well thought out so you are able to focus on the photos you want to take. This is so important. No weird menus that get in your way. Shutter speed, Aperture, Program mode, exposure compensation, Iso are all easily set. The lens is sharp and the jpeg colors are beautiful. I have owned over 50 cameras over the years. For a portable travel or street camera, this is the best I have ever used.

great camera

Although it has a somewhat limited fixed telephoto lens, it is sharp and loaded with features. Does everything well. Not a pocket camera but very portable. Only 12 usable megapixels but the super sharp lens makes up for it.

Ancient technology

This camera is nearly 4 years old now. That's like 28 in Technology Years. Where is the LX200??

Little camera, old technology, great great results.

Other than missing a flip out screen, this camera astounds! If it’s the results that are important to you, then this camera is a bargain.

Fantastic camera

Great camera, so far just using on automatic settings and it takes fantastic lowlight shots. Full daylight shots can come out a little overexposed. Quick response and easy to use.

Very Good but not Perfect

I'm an experienced DSLR and advance Compact user. This replaces my LX 5 which always exceeded my expectations. So far the images are great when everything is set right and the environment is is good. After only a few test shots and 2 days use the camera evoked a Focus System Erroe and was inoperable. Using tips from the internet, after about an hour I was able to clear the error. But now, after this experience and the commonality of this error I don't trust the camera for use on important events. Also, while the available manual controls are one reason I chose it, some are hard to access, learn and use. Focus operation in particular is of course critical but can be confusing and slow the capture process down. It remains having to prove itself to me.

I'm not much of a gear head but...

This camera is phenomenal. As another reviewer commented, it truly is a dream. What I'm most impressed with is its ability to perform in low-light. I'm almost liking this more than my Canon D-SLR that costs three times the amount (without a lens). It's practical, compact and usable in so many different situations. If it wasn't for the subpar LCD/EVF, I wouldn't have a single negative observation.

Still a viable camera

Although introduced in 2014, this camera is still viable. I love the full array of manual controls including a shutter speed dial, aperture ring, format selection and exposure compensation dial. Quality build and just the right size (compact, but not pocketable) it feels just right in my hands. As a micro four-thirds camera, the sensor size is ample, and the resolution viable (12.7 megapixels). The F1.7 - 2.8 aperture and 24 - 75 mm zoom is a little modest especially with the zoom range, but is acceptable for most of my needs. Also, there is an EVF that may not be the best, but suits me just fine especially considering most of the compacts these days only have a rear screen. Overall, I love this camera. It hearkens back to my first SLR or a classic rangefinder.

Good Overall

The camera is extremely simple to operate, has a great lens, but it is definitely not a professional camera. Does great in low-light, but again, expect graininess, and pixelation because of the small image sensor. For most people not professional, you will be very happy with this camera.

Cristal clear...

This is so handy to carry compared to my DSLR cameras,. I like the quality of the pictures, I still take my DSLR with the Zoom in it just in case I needed zooming an object, otherwise, this small Lumix is just enough to point and shoot.

dust

I have enjoyed using this camera, I love the square format option, the camera shoots great quality videos. The one problem my camera has it that somehow dust gets into the camera and onto the image sensor. I've had it cleaned 2x and it needs a cleaning again. I keep it in a case but I think the zoom lens somehow draws in dust when it retracts. I've even had a repair person replace a seal on the lens but still the same problem. Other than that the camera is great.

photo transfer need WORK

I bought this camera to take travelling so I don't have to take my big DSLR. I like the manual features and so far I am pleased with photo quality. My biggest problem is transferring the photos off of the camera. I FINALLY after MUCH difficulty and googling got my PC connected to the camera via the wifi, and then discovered that there is no way to transfer the photos all at once; you have to select them one by one. What if I have a full 64GB card and I have to manually select 8000 photos? Ridiculous. I then tried to plug the camera into my computer via the provided cable, but my computer does not recognize the device no matter what I do and won't allow me access to transfer photos that way. Of course there are many other ways to transfer the photos, so I will use one of those options, the easiest being transferring them via an SD card reader straight to my iPad or external hard drive. The wifi function does work fairly well using the app, but I don't want to transfer my photos to my (almost full) iPhone. I realize that most things are optimized for mobile at this point, but I still edit my photos on my PC and am disappointed that it is so difficult to directly connect my camera to the PC and transfer the photos.

great camera for the right purposes

I love this camera. It has everything I am looking for. It is replacing a Nikon P300 which was great for the time I had it. The Panasonic will continue as my vacation/travel camera. The bundle was a great deal. I got it especially because it included a battery and memory card which I would have had to purchase separately. Unfortunately the screen protector was only 3 inches and the glass area on the back is 3.25 inches so I had to order another one. The tripod is back-ordered but I haven't been charged for it and I am in no hurry, so no big deal there.

Great image quality for a compact camera

The image quality of this camera is great, navigating and using it is easy, and it gives you lots of control over settings and adjustments. I've been looking for a compact camera under ($) for hobby photography and this camera has satisfied my needs so far, and it was much lower in cost than my maximum budget.

Superb all-round compact get-it-done street camera

This is my second LX100, the first being damaged in an accident. I tried going without it for a while, but missed it a LOT despite owning a great SLR and another small enthusiast camera. The LX100 has a great lens (sharp, wide aperture, usable but limited zoom range, macro-focusing), a great sensor for 4k video and for stills, and terrific controls (an honest aperture ring and shutter speed dial, both with automatic positions to give you easy access to all shooting modes). There's an exposure dial on top of the camera that's very handy in any automatic mode, but perhaps a little too easy to move accidentally. The menus provide pretty much everything that you'll find on a good SLR, and three programmable buttons allow you to customize the camera to make most things that you'd want to do quick and easy. It'll fit in many coat pockets, but it's a bit too large to be considered pocketable. Still, it's pretty small and unobtrusive when worn on a neck-strap. Once you know it, the controls allow you to do whatever you want really quickly. Its flexibility and the quality of the images, including in low light, are remarkable. If you want to think about what you're doing with a camera and want something pretty small, then the LX100 should be a top candidate for you.

almost exactly what I was looking for

I wanted a high quality digital camera that I could put in a coat pocket with 1. a fast lens, 2. telephoto, 3. a good viewfinder, 4. full manual controls, 5. good video. The lx100 does all of that. The only thing I wish was different was that there was a longer zoom. I switched from a canon G16 and the longer zoom was very useful. As far as using it, my advice is to to adjust the custom photo style so that your JPEGs look the way you want them too. Most people seem to lower the contrast and the noise reduction and up the sharpening. Or else just shoot RAWs.

Love to see a newer version of this camera

I have had this camera for several months and simply love it!!! It has the right combination of features and excellent build quality. There's simply no camera out in the market today that has the following combination of features: relatively large sensor (1" sensor is still too small), sharp bright zoom lens, great set of manual controls, and decent 4K video. I look forward to an update on this fantastic camera. I would love to see the following up-spec and additional new features: higher pixel count on the M3/4 sensor, even better low light performance (usuable up-to iso6400 or iso12800), same sharp lens but with a stop of two more brightness, 5 axis stablization, and a better resolution display that tilts.

Almost everything I need when I travel

As a pro, I appreciate that this camera gives me easy control over f-stop, shutter speed, ISO, and most other shooting parameters. It's so small it fits in a coat pocket, and so lightweight that I hardly notice it when I hang it around my neck. I haven't done too much video as yet, but the video options are easy to use so I know I'll be using it more and more. The main drawback is it's limited optical zoom range, with a 35mm equivalent of 28 to 75 mm. Great for indoor and landscape shots, but not quite long enough for zooming in on distant subjects. It does have extended and digital zoom options, which bring the zoom up to 150 or 300mm, so I'll be experimenting with these to see how much they degrade image quality. But I think this camera will be ideal for most of what I shoot when traveling.

This is a Photographer's Dream Camera

To those of us who grew up shooting film, the LUMIX LX100 is just a dream come true. For the vast majority of shooting situations I can quickly and easily set the LX100 to get the results I want. It's all there in my hands with only the rarest trip into the digital menus! The results, too, are terrific. The LX100 is my first Panasonic camera and yet the learning curve was very fast. It's a very well thought out product. Feels just right in one's hands. It you spent years shooting with film SLR cameras or additional years shooting with DSLRs, this one improves on both. Check it out!

Nice step up from a phone

There are times when i don't want to carry a big DSLR or when having a DSLR at a small gathering would be intrusive. This fills in perfectly. It can be used full manual to full automatic. Photo quality is not as good as my DSLR but good in the right conditions. I wish the flash has more power and would tilt up, but I'm still happy with the camera.

Sensational camera!

I purchased the DMC-LX100 as a lightweight backup for my APS-C camera, and have found the features and image quality are EXCELLENT. I have been able to reduce the weight of my camera equipment for hiking and traveling in half, with similar ease of use and features. I may be able to leave my big camera at home now when I travel!

Controls Designed to Inspire Creativity
Designed to inspire and expand the creative potential of every camera enthusiast, the LX 100 comes complete with an exciting range of advanced imaging features. It encourages direct, intuitive control with dedicated lens rings and dials, including aperture and control rings for precise zooming and focusing, as well as speed and exposure compensation dials.

Approaching New Expressive Horizons - Micro Four Thirds High Sensitivity MOS Sensor
It's now more rewarding than ever to render smooth, seamless gradations and rich, fuller textures in all their natural beauty. To help capture subtle details and nuances the LX100 incorporates a large 4/3-inch High Sensitivity MOS Sensor with multi-aspect ratios. By maintaining resolution at 12.8-MP (in 4:3 setting), the volume of light is controlled to improve the S/N ratio, making it possible to create clear, detailed images with minimum noise. Even when shooting at ISO25600.

Multiple Aspect Ratios
With a simple switch on the lens barrel, it's easy to select and set three aspect ratios. This quick, convenient function makes it possible to confidently record images in the 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratio with the same angle of view.

Great Lens, Compact Body - F/1.7-2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX Lens
With F1.7-2.8 brightness, high speed and crisp detail corner to corner, this sophisticated LEICA lens system is the perfect complement to the camera's compact body, and the key to innovative imaging. This precision lens unit consists of 11 elements in eight groups with five aspherical lenses including two ED lenses. These lenses, together with a space-saving drive range, work seamlessly with Panasonic's original centering technology to enhance alignment sharpness.

Light Speed AF with DFD Technology
With the LX100, new Depth From Defocus technology slashes focus time. It instantaneously calculates distance to subject by evaluating two separate image with different sharpness levels. The result is ultra-high speed AF in approximately 0.14 seconds.

2,764-dot Equivalent High Resolution LFV
An integrated Live View Finder with 2,764-dot equivalent high resolution delivers approximately 100% color reproduction* to assure stable framing and superb visibility when shooting under strong sunlight. And to prevent missing any shooting opportunity, the Eye Sensor AF initiates auto focusing the instant you look into it. A 3.0-inch 921k-dot rear monitor is also available.

A New Form of Photo Expression - Print High-Resolution Photos from 4K Video
In addition to 4K Ultra HD video recording, the LX100 also has the ability to grab 3840 x 2160 MP equivalent stills from 4K video footage to enlarge and print high-definition photos. Once 4K Photo mode is selected, the luminance level is adjusted to 0-255, suitable for photos. At the same time, you can also select 4:3 or 3:3 in addition to 16:9 with the aspect ratio switch.

External Flash Included
A highly practical, color coordinated, easy-mount external flash unit (GN10 ISO200 m/GN7 OISO100) is included.

Aspect Brackets
The Aspect Bracket enables the LX100 to simultaneously create an image 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 1:1.
WB Bracket - A White Balance bracket is available to record three images with different WB parameters at a single shutter release.
Monochrome in Photo Style - The Monochrome Filter (Ye/Or/R/G) in the Photo Style function easily creates rich, smooth expression from the limited hues of monochrome images.
Multi Exposure - This versatile function enables the camera to shoot four exposures in a single frame, and to layer subjects that wouldn't ordinarily appear in the same frame.

Creative Control with 22 Filter Effects
Expressive, Retro, Old Days, High Key, Low Key, Sepia, Monochrome, Dynamic Monochrome, Rough Monochrome, Silky Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Cross Process, Toy Effect, Toy Pop, Bleach Bypass, Miniature Effect, Soft Focus, Fantasy, Star Filter, One Point Color, Sunshine

Unwire Your Creativity with WiFi
Remote Shooting/Remote View - Using the Panasonic Image App, any photographer can use a smartphone or tablet to set focus and shoot photos and video remotely.
Easy Share - Instantly upload and share images on social media on a smartphone or tablet with the Panasonic Image App too.
Easy NFC Connect - To instantly sync a NFC-compatible smartphone or tablet, simply touch it to the camera, or scan the QR code displayed on the camera monitor to sync.
Geotagging - Easily tag location information to the image by using the GPS log on a smartphone or tablet and share it to your favorite social media site.

Smooth, Beautiful Defocus Effects
When combined with the large, high-sensitivity MOS Sensor, this lens configuration gives images a shallow depth of field with an impressive defocus effect featuring invisible edge lines and onion rings. And a newly adopted nine-aperture diaphragm helps produce breathtaking bokeh effects with smooth, circular shapes.
