This is the best high-end point & shoot camera that you'll ever want or need. I owned the FZ20 and it served well for several years until I got it wet too many times. I suggest getting a plastic housing if you work in poor weather conditions.

I'm just getting started using the Lumix...spent one weekend taking pictures. Some blurring, but I attribute this to picture taker error and moving subjects. I'm so pleased with the super zoom! It's exactly what I wanted before I venture into the SLR area. Very happy with this camera.

Impressive FZ50
By leafy f.
This is the best high-end point & shoot camera that you'll ever want or need. I owned the FZ20 and it served well for several years until I got it wet too many times. I suggest getting a plastic housing if you work in poor weather conditions.
The 10 mp Panasonic DMC-FZ50 is loaded with dozens of features such as a 3D multi-colour display, a free-angle 2.0" LCD with a wider adjustment range. Change the angle of the LCD monitor any way you like. You can get a comfortable look at the 2.0", 207,000-pixel monitor even when shooting over a crowd or taking a low-angle shot of a flower. Panasonic also increased the vertical adjustment range to 180 degrees for easier shooting in portrait orientation.
With AF Distance Metering the auto focus method can be selected according to the shooting situation, 9-Point, 3-Point High Speed, 1-Point High Speed, 1-Point Normal Speed and Spot. In the new 1-Point High-Speed AF, the AF time has been dramatically reduced to 1/4 the level of the previous models by raising the sampling frequency
The FZ50 is equipped with a built-in multifunctional powerfull flash that features Auto, Auto/Red-Eye Reduction, Slow Sync/Red-Eye Reduction, and Forced On/Off. The flash intensity can be adjusted within a range of +/-2 EV. The FZ50 is equipped with a 12x Optical bright f/2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens that features 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses and an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens that helps suppress the color bleeding that can occur in telephoto shots.
This advanced lens also boasts a 12x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 35 to 420mm) that pulls even distant objects into your range. Add the FZ50's large, 1/1.8" 10.4-megapixel CCD and you have extraordinary expressive power. The FZ50 also features an Extra Optical Zoom, which gives you up to 21x power* by magnifying (with minimal deterioration) the image using the center area of the high-resolution CCD.
Use intuitive control with manual focus and zoom rings. Two rings on the FZ50 lens barrel give you complete manual control of zooming and focusing. You get levels of speed and accuracy simply not possible with button operation. You'll enjoy not only the precise control the rings give you, but also the satisfying feel that only manual operation offers.
Accurate, flexible focusing both auto and manual: Use any of five auto focus modes: 1-point (normal/high-speed), 3-point high-speed, 9-point, and spot. The manual focus ring lets you adjust the focus from about 1 ft (0.3 m) to infinity. The FZ50 also has Manual Focus Assist, which makes it easier to focus by enlarging a part of the image that you see in the viewfinder or LCD monitor. This all adds up to quick, easy, accurate focusing.
The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) helps keep your shots steady, even if you're not. This system uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even tiny camera movement and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical - it does not affect the CCD or image processing - so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration.
Enjoy dozens more of advanced features with your Panasonic FZ50 Digital SLR.
