Very good resolution and imaging but depending on how you use autofocus it could be a little too slow for you. Using limited focussing range by setting the slider so it does not cover the entire range of ditances from close up to infinity helps a lot. As a standard lens it is light and very useful. As a macro lens it works well but be prepared to get up close to your subject.

I already knew the focus process was noisy and slow and I was prepared to deal with that. What I didn't expect was when focus was "achieved", the images were not sharp. I had to revert to manual focus mode to get sharp images. And the color rendition, especially yellows and oranges is awful. Washed out and dull. I have an A-mount Sony 50mm (manual focus only on my A7R5) that I'll be sticking with.

At 50mm this doubles as a normal lens, plus the field of view makes shooting down on the ground stuff very doable. As opposed to the 70 & 90mm close ups on the market which don't have a usable field of view shooting straight down.

I brought this lens recently and I am finding my way with it . I found it is best left on AFA other wise the lens keeps hunting to focus unless you use manual focus. I must say it take?s some great photos it works best at 0 to 3 meters or full its a great lens and i am very pleased with it . My camera is a A6500 .

Great lens - it?s sharp and versatile and doesn?t add weight or bulk to my wedding day kit. It?s a great solution for someone who wants macro capability in controlled situations but can?t justify a huge, heavy, and expensive lens for a small portion of their work.

Love this lens! The AF is fast enough for what I need, it's a macro and I love the image. I get great results every time with the new a7c's eye autofocus mode. Definitely recommend!

Seriously, this is a great focal length for all photographers to carry in their camera bag. It is great for portraits, cityscapes, and street scenes. But this lens has the added benefit of being a macro as well. That is a huge bonus when you are out and about shooting. Now you can shoot all styles of photography and get extreme closeup or abstract shots as well. All with the same lens.

This lens is super-fast at focusing and tracking subjects when paired with the new a7rIV! It is also one lens you cannot do without - it is a prime 50mm which is a perfect all-around lens but has the added benefit of being a Macro as well. I use this lens for street photography mostly but recently I had an opportunity to try it out at a wedding and it did not disappoint. It rendered beautiful scenes and I was able to get some macro shots without changing lenses. Great artistic lens.

I use this lens in a studio setting in manual focus mode. I could not be happier.

Understand the limitations see lens reviews. This lens is very sharp from 2.8 thru 5.6 but falls off after that. You have to choose the correct distance on the barrel range switch when doing macro for focus. At the distance that cross's the range limits it can be impossible or very time consuming to AF. In non marco shooting, within 2.8 - 5.6 this is edge to edge super sharp. I like 50mm and the price point.

In normal use, images are sharp with good colour and contrast. AF is OK if you can use phase-detect focussing. Otherwise it can be slow and noisy. Macro AF is slow with hunting but not terminally so.

Excellent macro lens, very sharp, amazing resolution, light and easy to carry around. My tips....use AF-A or MF. Stay clear of AF-C. Don't expect this lens to be a do it all solution because it isn't. It is a macro lens and when used as such it's a star.

Sent it back. Not what I wanted. No OSS and the auto-focus is pretty useless.

I only use it to shoot macro (wedding details shots) and boy this thing is sharp which is exactly what you are looking for when shooting products or in my case wedding jewelry.

This is my first macro lens. I've been looking for one to do ring shots and other close up video and photo, but I didn't want to go with the more expensive 90mm. Used this for a couple weddings and loved it. It's good for the price, makes a decent backup 50, does what I got it for, and is really fun to play with too.

Works great with the new 6500. Better value than the 90mm for me.

Ideal for everyday photography, this 50mm macro lens features an F2.8 maximum aperture that offers outstanding image quality and bokeh, while its 1:1 macro capability allows the photographer to get sharp close-up shots of their subject. Additionally, its comprehensive range of controls including focus-mode switch, focus-range limiter and focus-hold button ensure an effortless shooting experience for a wide range of users.
The lens offers a 6.3 inch minimum focusing distance and a wider field of view for capturing more background, compared to longer focal-length macro lenses. Weighing in at a mere 8.4 oz., it's extremely lightweight and portable, making it easy to carry around.
The new FE 50mm F2.8 Macro lens features an ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass to effectively compensate for axial chromatic aberration at close focus, allowing it to create consistently sharp and high quality images. The optical and mechanical construction of the lens has less glare and ghosting, even without a lens hood. The lens is also dust and moisture resistant
