The ability to change color setting from an app, with subtle detail, is amazing. The app is better suited to a phone. The screens didn't change size to fit an iPad screen size. But, I could live with this. This light is advertised as a key light, that can compete with the sun. It's not powerful enough to properly light a portrait through a soft box. The idea is great. Definitely needs to be more powerful before it can be considered as a key light.

I had heard of Hive from their respected, low heat, Plasma lights, but never got to use them… Then came the Color-series 200 Hornet and 50 Bee, following the 100 Wasp LED’s. I got to shoot a MINI Cooper commercial where interior heat and risk of damage is unthinkable. I saw the Hornet 200’s 7-color chip engine specs and well thought out modifiers and accessories, including a mini s4 attachment and super spot, and then said “Perfect". My DMX needs were easily looped into quick color selections and, better yet, saturation levels into well controlled colored crossfades. No color spikes mid-stream. RGBW is dead to me now… “Wow” I said. I don’t feel overcautious to buy into LED's anymore. The 200-C is great, and the 100-C & 50-C seemed to blend into the color needs and light levels, as required in the scene, with their 5-color chipped LED little brother engine. Hive doesn't seem to hide from thinking out of the box… It will be great to see what comes next. Thanks!

This light is one of the more powerful LEDs out there that happens to have full color-changing, dimming, color temperature adjustments and so forth. Because of this I am able to do many different things including the ability to mount all sorts of fun accessories like Profoto, fresnel, ETC Source 4 Mini, and the par reflector. Highly recommend!

Hive have created an LED that is going to be very useful for a lot of sets. Clean single shadows, and the narrow reflector helps with output by almost 2 stops over other modifiers. Throw seemed to be good as well. I measured it against the digitial Sputnik and at daylight and tungsten temperatures it was on par with output. Which is a lot for a fixture this size. The Profoto Mount is genius and super helpful. Fully saturated colors aren’t as bright, maybe 1-2 stops less depending on color,but bright enough to be useful unlike the 100c. The effects modes and Bluetooth control work very effectively. Manual controls on the head are easy enough to use, and the fact that lumen radio is built in further future proof the device. If I was a photographer with exsisting profoto modifiers this light would be a no brainer.
