This is my first truly disappointing purchase from Apurture. Though well constructed, it has two glaring (pun intended) problems. It has a silver inner liner, not white. So it gives a decidedly ?chrome? light. And the size means it has a hot spot in the center. If you use the included hot spot eliminator, it becomes a ring light. Ugh. This is going on the shelf.

Best dome for small spaces. If you're a content creator or lighting a small interview, this dome is great for the job. Easy to assemble and disassemble.

I bought this primarily for shooting portraits with flash on-location, as well as some hobbyist video on the side. It is much sturdier than other quick-open products out there, which is reflected in the price. Flex rod and speedring setups are time-consuming. This product saves me time, and it does away with the fear that I will accidentally whip myself in the face with a flex rod. Another time-saver is the included gel holder. No more fussing with gaff tape! It also puts space between the strobe and the gel, which can be important to those using modeling lamps that run hot. It doesn't produce the creamiest lighting with gentle highlights, especially on subjects with oily/specular skin types, so if that's important to you, look elsewhere. For my use, though, I am satisfied with the results.

The mini dome is what people need to utilize these types of LEDs. It is significantly less invasive than the normal-size diffusion/reflector boxes. The velcro ring on the perimeter allows for diffusion and grids/honeycombs to be applied and removed with ease. Small, effective and a huge step in the right direction from Aputure.

I love my Light Dome II but it’s huge! This is almost a necessity as it is way more portable and manageable but with the same quality. It works equally well with both video and photos. If you use the Light Dome and the Mini you are also getting equal light quality which makes things easier. This really helps maintain your workflow and quality. Overall, highly recommended and I would seriously suggest if buying the larger Light Dome to get this also.
