Review Summary

I just received my ES110 package. First of all, I'm a trained classical pianist and was the teaching assistant to one of the most sought-after piano teachers in the world for many years. I've tried a number of pianos up to twice the price of this and none compared to this in what to me is the most important aspect: how sensitive is the action, in terms of how well it translates slight differences in force into slight differences in sound. If you agree that this piano is by far the best in its class, you should know that you can spend the next week searching and you won't find a deal anywhere near as good as this one.

This package includes an additional foot pedal which is not required. In fact it is not as good as the one included in the original package along with the piano.

I am uncertain about the ES110 at this point. It seems that there are some notes that are dead. They don't have the ring to them, for example D6 is dull, whereas the C6 and E6 is bright , clear and rings. Very disappointing.

i bought this for my daughter and she says its like night and days vs. a non-weighted keyboard. And her teacher also has noticed an improvement in her playing. Highly recommend this product!

New to digital pianos and a pretty big novice but initial reaction to the piano is very impressed. I played when younger for 15 years and now just getting back into it; this keyboard has everything I remember about how a real piano feels, amazing hammer action, excellent sound quality from most of the presets (especially piano). Feels relatively durable, everything came in great shape. Included headphones are pretty garbage but this review is not about them. Damper pedal high quality and also durable. Sure the hammer action is loud when piano is off but it doesn?t bother me. Only reason I didn?t give five stars is because the speaker volume is pretty sub optimal. They are fine for a small room and self practice but if you really want to jam out, they are certainly lacking. They sound wonderful just could be a bit more wattage. I would give 4.5 stars if possible. Will update down the road as I?ve only owned for a month or so.

Very capable digital piano for the price. Action is no louder than an acoustic piano. Good weight and true feel. Bluetooth MIDI works well with piano learning apps that support it. Definitely recommend. Best price here.

I have been using digital pianos professionally since 1986. I have been a diehard Yamaha fan, having owned five PF and P series keyboards and two Yamaha piano modules over the years. During 2018 I started a rigorous search for a new mid-priced digital piano. After approximately eight months, I narrowed it down to the Yamaha P-125 and the Kawai ES110. In my opinion, both are fine keyboards, with the Yamaha's sound fitting better with ensemble work (clear and sharp sound) and the Kawai sounding more like a real piano for solo work (rich and complex sound). But what sold me on the ES-110 was the action - in my opinion, the Kawai action is not only clearly better than the action on the P-125, it is by far the best action of any digital piano in this price range. In fact, considering that real acoustic pianos vary from one to another in the feel of their actions, the Kawai ES-110's feel, I would say, falls within the variance of real pianos' actions. (Note: this is partly due to the excellent action on the ES-110, but also somewhat due to Yamaha's choice of action on the P-125. Frankly I don't know what they were thinking. The Casio Privia models are also now feeling better than the P-125, again in my opinion.) I have had my ES-110 for a little more than a year now and I I find that I am not even thinking about getting a new piano. If something were to happen to this one, I would just immediately go buy another ES-110. The only thing I would change (and be willing to pay more for) on this piano would be the scheme for changing settings. As you can see from the photos, there are a minimal number of buttons on the board; so to change parameters such as EQ and reverb they resorted to the old "hold this button while pressing a key" scheme, which is a bit cumbersome and difficult to remember and do when you are gigging in a dark room. I understand that this is probably fine for home and probably holds the costs down, but for me, having a few more dedicated buttons would be worth paying a little more for. But since you can set everything up (using the hold-a-button method) and then save that setup to memory, it's not so bad. This is the one!

Keyboard is great quality for the price. The sound and action are good. The stand and headphones poor quality.

It was about as good as I thought it would be. The sound quality was decent, and very good in the bass. The volume from the speakers are adequate for practicing in the home. Sound quality and volume is very good when using the headphones--I imagine a small keyboard amp should achieve this effect as well. I like that it's light and I can carry it upstairs or to different rooms in the house with no trouble. It would be perfect for a college kid heading off to live in a dorm. The feel and touch is excellent--much better than I had imagined it would be. One negative would be the tapping sound of the keyboard when you play--you don't really notice it until someone else plays using the headphones. Then it sounds like someone typing in the room, but you don't really notice it otherwise. The stand and bench are just OK, but that's not what you're paying for, and it's nice that they're portable as well. It comes with a variety of other classic keyboard and piano sounds--all good quality, and easy to switch into. Generally, an acoustic grand piano is the hardest of the keyboard sounds to replicate, and, for me, the Kawai ES110 sounds the best at that (especially through the headphones) compared to others in its price range. I give it four stars, thinking the 5 star digital piano in this price range hasn't been built yet.

The piano sounds are true grand! Keyboard touch sensitivity is nice. Keyboard feel is a little bit of light action and is very fast and responsive. . I was really debating between the Casio and this. I’m really happy with this purchase

A fantastic set definitely worth the money. One issue was that headphones came broken. Could be due to transport.

Tone
The ES110 utilizes Kawai's acclaimed Harmonic Imaging Sound Technology, featuring 88-key piano sampling, to create its impressive piano sound.
Realistic touch, natural motion
The ES110's brand new Responsive Hammer Compact keyboard action has been developed to reproduce the distinctive touch of an acoustic grand piano. Its spring-less technology and sturdy construction delivers consistent upward and downward motion for a smooth, natural and highly authentic piano playing experience.
Acoustic piano key weighting
Just as acoustic pianos utilize heavier bass hammers and lighter treble hammers, the RH Compact keyboard action also employs different hammer weights, appropriately graded for each playing range. Such realistic details provide greater stability during fortissimo passages, while preserving delicate pianissimo control, to satisfy the demands of even the most discerning pianist.
True character in every note
The ES110 digital piano captures the beautiful sound of Kawai's highly acclaimed concert grand piano, with all 88 keys of this exceptional instrument meticulously recorded, analyzed and faithfully reproduced using advanced Harmonic Imaging technology. This unique process accurately recreates the broad dynamic range of the original grand piano, affording pianists an extraordinary level of expressiveness ranging from the softest pianissimo to the strongest, boldest fortissimo.
Reverbs, noises & resonances
Additional reverberation effects that simulate the acoustic environment of a recital room, live stage or concert hall are also applied, with settings to adjust voicing, sympathetic resonance and other acoustic characteristics. The result is a rich, vibrant piano tone that delivers breathtaking realism and authenticity.
Built-in lessons
The ES110's convenient lesson function allows aspiring pianists to study classical piano using a collection of Burgmuller etudes or learn time-honored standards from the popular Alfred Basic Piano course books. The left and right hand parts of each etude or song can be practiced separately, with the built-in metronome and adjustable tempo controls helping to improve timing and rhythm.
Line Out jacks
Weighing just 12 kilos, the ES110 is ideal for gigging musicians looking for a portable instrument with authentic touch and high quality sounds. Dedicated Line Out jacks allow direct connection to mixers and PAs, with the ability to leave the built-in speakers enabled for use as local monitors.
Bluetooth connectivity
In addition to standard MIDI ports, the ES110 also boasts integrated Bluetooth MIDI, allowing the instrument to communicate with smart devices wirelessly. Once paired with a phone or tablet, ES110 owners can easily expand the piano's functions using a wide range of music apps - without the need for any extra cables or adaptors.
Variety of sound
Supplementing its realistic acoustic piano voices, the ES110 also offers a selection of additional instrument sounds, including electric pianos, organs, strings, acoustic and electric bass, harpsichord and vibraphone. The Dual and Split playing modes also allow two different voices, such as an acoustic piano and a string ensemble, to be played together for a more complex sound that inspires even greater musical creativity.
