These Headphones make music easy to listen to. Hooked to my small Fiio amp Cd's and YouTube videos are crisp and clean. Best buy I've made in years.

I've used Sony, Bose and Sennheiser headphones in the past. After owning Focal speakers, I decided to try their headphones. At their current sale price they are one of the best pair of cans I have owned. Since these are closed back they work perfectly when I'm not trying to bother my wife when we're in the same room.

The Elegia have the Focal sound. I found that they benefit significantly by breaking them in. On initial opening, they were very flat and kind of papery sounding. After breaking them in a good ten hours, they have the expected Focal sound. It did improve some more after another ten to twenty hours of breaking using pink noise. Comparing to Stellia's, they don't have as much sound sound stage. A little more low emphasis. If you can get on sale, excellent deal. Was able to run off my phone well. They sound better with more power such as from portable or desktop headphone amp or amp/DAC.

I was immediately impressed by the Elegias solid build and elegant finish. It comes with a sturdy case, suitable for travel with interior room to spare for the chords. My first listen surprised me at the clarity and depth of the sound field. I am looking forward to listening long term and breaking these in. Although most over the ear headphones seem tight and uncomfortable after a short period of time, I am pleased to report that these Eligia's have remained comfortable for one to two hour listening sessions.

Beautiful sounding headphones. A solid low end with a nice midrange and pretty good soundstage for a closed back phone. The highs sound good to me but at 66 years old and my twenties working lots of rock concerts my hearing starts taking a serious nosedive at around 8Khz. These are also very comfortable for long listening sessions. I don?t like the choice of light gray microfiber for the headband inner material but I bought a knit snap on cover so my head doesn?t turn it greasy looking. I also don?t really like the stock cable but that a quick fix from China away. It also comes with a nice fitted travel case that I probably won?t use as I use wireless headphones ?? for travel. At this price these were a steal!

The Adorama price through DealNews was an absolute steal. It is a pleasure buying from them. Be patient with these headphones. I was on the fence concerning burn-in until now. I did as Focal?s website said to concerning burn in and they absolutely did get warmer and I don?t think they are finished yet. Also, make sure you are driving them sufficiently. I?m using my XDP-30R layer in balanced mode and there is an incredible difference in comparison to unbalanced.

I was very excited when I heard this headphone was to be found at Adorama for $299. Knowing how much it cost when it came out, I jumped on this deal as I was eager to try out the Focal hype. When I gotit, I was very impressed by the packaging and the contents of the box. The Elegia feels premium in the hand, and just as premium when you first put it on your head. However, there was one thing I did not understand. It is my understanding the Elegia is considered a closed-back headphone. However, with the amount of sound that leaked out, I am forced to believe that it is not closed-back like I thought. Otherwise, this has to be by far the most open closed-back headphone I have ever heard. Still, I was willing to forgive that issue. In fact, so far I was very impressed with the headphone as I let it burn in for several hours. However, unfortunately, that is where the good things I have to say end. The sound is ... lacking. It sounds to me very metallic. Perhaps hollow is a better word? I am not good at describing sound, even though I know what I hear. Maybe it's the timbre, but something makes this headphone just sound lacking. I am afraid lacking is the best word I can use. When a song sounds great, it sounds extremely good. However, there is a certain spot in the frequency that just sounds scooped out. Unfortunely, it affects a lot of the music I like to listen to. For that reason, because comfort and feel can only get you so far, I am sadly returning this headphone. Despite the much lower price tag than at launch, I cannot recommend this headphone to buyers. Oh, and sorry there are no pictures. Since I am blind, I figured I'd give you all the same looks I had. :). Now, on a serious note, I'd like to thank Adorama for seriously awesome customer service. I purchased this product and it arrived the very next day. Not a ton of companies are that efficient. Good work Adorama.

Great headphones. Comfort and a luxurious feel with one of the best sound available for closed back headphones

Punchy bass, and decent isolation. Cable is a little garbage; it's stiff and it kinks easily. I was going to upgrade it eventually, so it's not a big deal.

Pros: great fit and finish, case, sound quality, looks. They look, feel, and sound like $900 headphones. They have a generally balanced sound with good bass, mids, treble. Generally not too bright, not a V curve. Very detailed and fast sounding. Pads are thick and comfortable and ears don't touch anything. Cons: Without EQ, there are some peaks in the mids and low treble that can get a bit fatiguing after a while and even sound a bit shouty on certain songs. For a "closed" headphone they leak a lot of sound and don't isolate external sound much at all. They are comfortable at first but the clamp force is high and they get uncomfortable for me after an hour or so. The included cable is terrible - it is stiff and has permanent kinks that don't go away. I really can't fathom why they included such a bad cable. I paid $300 for these during a sale. Would I pay 900? Definitely not. Are they worth picking up at these discounted prices? Probably.

Didn?t know what to expect with these and was pleasantly surprised. The quality is maybe a bit beyond what I was expecting.. these things are about as nicely constructed as can be. Sound-wise they?re an interesting listen.. seem pretty good for my needs which is mainly sound design and production work but for some listeners it might feel that the music is a bit distant or quiet compared to boomier more in your face headphones. To do that with these you?d have to turn them up and you probably wouldn?t be able to take that for long. Very comfy and decent weight given the materials on offer.. should be ok to wear for a few hours here and there. Only negative is the cable that came with them is too short.. about 3ft.. so I?ll need to purchase a desperate one.

These are a great pair of headphones but not perfect. They have a high level of clarity & do a great job at image separation. Decent soundstage for a closed back as well. Where it falls short is in the bass dept. It really lacks oomph for modern music. The headband, while comfy has a lighter colored cloth & will for sure show wear after time. The build quality is top tier & the case it comes w is also super nice. I?d only recommend this to those who are willing to EQ them

I was looking to jump from higher quality headphones (SEVGA, Fostex, V-Moda, etc ) to high end ones, but with price tags ranging form $400 to $2000 plus, it's hard to commit. So I was so nervous about these. And I absolutely love them. Other people will get into specifics much better than I can, so I will say that these headphones work for every type of sound. The highs are high, lows are low, and everything is incredibly clear. Closed back means I can wear them at work. Orchestral, rock, jazz; all sound amazing. At this price point, it's hard to say which headphones are best for you. Different levels and signatures appeal to different people. I consider this point 0 though, good for everything and impossible to regret.

This headsets are very good. The bass is a bit on lean site but it's present there. Midrange and upper notes are clear, the headsets look very nice and are pretty comfortable to wear. The other reviews are spot on that these headsets have neutral signature. They do however feel like they play little more on warm side than analytical side even without EQ filters so they are fun to use for listening to a music.

They sound amazing after a good burnin, and I'm heavily enjoying them. I did replace the stock cable though as it's not that nice of a cable. Hart audio has nicer feeling cables and I have an adapter now for balanced xlr and 3.5mm for my other devices.

I bought these for my work system, Marantz CD5003 and Schiit Magni connected by Kimber PBJ, both plugged into a schlock power strip. I had been using the Grado SR125X for music, and they sound quite good in this system but offer poor isolation from sounds made from other workers, plus I was concerned about sound leaking from them and perhaps bothering others. The Focal Elegias are noticeably less open sounding, and the mids are rather colored. Trying to decide what was going on, I brought my Sennheiser HD600s from home as a comparison, and in the grand scheme of things, they sound relatively similar to the Grados, nothing like the Elegias. The latter are frankly not enjoyable enough to listen to music with in this system, so I've brought in audio books on CD to listen to. They work well for that and do have the isolation I was looking for to begin with. The Elegias may be revealing system flaws the other two sets of phones are not or are simply not well matched here.

Just got the first pair of Focal branded headphones and I have to say for the price paid, the build quality is superb. As for the sound, being closed back headphones, I was expecting a bit more bass but it seems focal tuned these to prioritize soundstage (which is excellent for a pair of closed cans) instead. I've running these through my Centrance DacMini CX, Ultrasone Panther, and my Questyle QP1R DAP and it seems to play well with all of the aforementioned sources whether they'd be HD FLAC, DSD, or just spotify outputting to JRIVER Media Center. The recommended equalizer settings provided by audioscience enhances the sound signature somewhat using JRIVER's DSP Studio but I find it more than acceptable via other sources without these tweaks. Highly detailed, much more so than the HD600s, XBA-Z5 (Iem), MDR 7550 (iem), and the Koss/MassDrop electrostatic headphones I have. Sound signature as many have shared is hate it or love it. I am ok with it but haven't put these cans through the paces with a proper burn in. For the price I paid, I'd say its a very good - excellent buy for audiophile headphones.

Bought these new ... sound superb! The best part is the price of $399.00. Great value and every bit as good as its Focal replacement, the Celestee. Fast shipping, headphones were exactly as described, new in every sense! Great communication from Adorama as well after the sale. Bonus is the ease of shopping on their website. Very highly recommended.

Good cans with many issues. Some songs sound great. Vocals are very nice, clarity is excellent, imaging fantastic. Too bad not many songs sound like that. Some recordings may sound shouty and aggressive. If you are treble sensitive you may have a problem. Sometimes the low end instruments sound like veiled... like their are placed far far behind.

I purchased this headphone for critical listening. I paired it with a Qudelix 5k, a useful device for implementing a balanced connection and applying equalization to the incoming signal. The Qudelix EQ allows me to make what I perceive as corrections to the default tuning of the headphone, which does lack a little bass. The detail and separation is, however, particularly impressive. Adorama was quick with shipping.

They require a lot of burn-in to sound their best.
By WILLIAM W.
These headphones are actually really great for closed back dynamics. They took a considerable amount of burn-in before I found them as enjoyable as I do today. I've listened to them on Bifrost2 > Dynalo and they are a real pleasure on that chain. They also work well with Singxer-SA1 and Cayin N3Pro. I don't think I ever would have tried them at their original price point but I think they're worth it. The sale I was able to get from Adorama though, made them a steal. One of the best head...

Very good headphones especially if you don't mind to EQ.
By Oleg Z.
Took few days of use to open up. Build quality is very good. Fast drivers produce clear detailed sound. Isolation is fine. Sound stage is ok too. They can play loud from almost any source but performance improves a lot if used with good quality amplifier. In regards to bass. It has plenty bellow 100 Hz all the way down to at least 15 Hz but dip between 100 and 250 Hz shifts tonal response. It makes you feel like there is not enough bass impact. EQ is recommended. Also the bass doesn't sound l...

What makes a quality headphone? What are the differences between $50 headphones and $5000 headphones? How does a person define their end game headphones, and what elements are a part of their decision matrix? If anyone is in the market for high end headphones, these are some of the most pressing questions. My goal is to discuss a few of these below, create some transparency, and allow everyone to have a better understanding of their needs and desires in order to purchase that perfect pair of stereo headphones.....
