After my family happened onto a stargazing group in December, I knew we needed a telescope, but didn?t want to break the bank to get started. After reading other reviews, I chose the Travel scope 70 and so far have been surprised by what this one can do for the cost. The scope is very lightweight and packs easily into its backpack. Set up is easy, and bring a chair if your taller than 5?5?. Tripod is a little short, and wish it was a little more solid on fixing it?s position. Have to find the star or planet and then lock it in a bit higher and let it settle back onto the object. But for the cost, it?s not a deal breaker. Best of all, with a little practice, I got a pretty good picture of the moon, and have seen Jupiter with some of its bigger moons and Saturn?s rings. Pretty impressed with that.

The good: - The telescope itself is alright. There's a little chromatic fringing noticeable around the edge of the Moon, but I've had good views of the Moon, the Pleiades, and the Orion Nebula, for example. - Nice to have the cell phone mount and remote shutter button. Much easier to take good space photos without having to tap the screen. The not-so-good: - The tripod. It's just about adequate for holding the telescope on its own, but the imbalance of adding the cell phone mount and a cell phone is too much for it to bear. There's almost no transition on the clutch between "slack" and "fixed (but not quite)". The ugly: - The remote shutter button has a blue LED that is really, really bright. If you're going observing at night, consider putting a little masking tape over it.

This was a gift for my 6 year-old grandson, so I was unable to see the product in real time. However, my daughter was pleased with the quality. She struggled a bit with the assembling of the product, but with help from her dad via FaceTime, she was able to get it put together. The company was a pleasure with work with. I knew when I bought it, there was a backorder. The company kept me apprised of the status. I would recommend this company.

Very reasonable beginner telescope. The tripod really lets this setup down, though. It's barely adequate to hold the scope stable, but adding a cellphone to the mix makes it a bit precarious.

The product is well packeged, easy to use. I'm impressed by the amount of extras it includes. It's great for the amateur astronomer. For its weight and price I think it does a lot and it's truly portable.

A full moon last night and I can't get the moon in the image, it keeps racing back and forth past it. I'm bummed I can't use it and am sending it back. I tried for 20 minutes after setup to no avail. Forget the cellphone adapter it's a hunk of junk!

Awesome little scope! You'll get a big surprise when you look through it! Great for cruising the night time skies! Easy to manuver around and adjust. Would be nicer with a taller tri-pod but for kids or shorter people it's perfect. I'm 5'10". I've had 60mm and 70mm and a 114mm refractor and by far this is the easiest to use! Just grab N go, light weight, easy to carry outside through the doorway. I've long since up-graded to better lenses and a correct image 90* diagonal but I also use them on other scopes i have. This is not the biggest scope but it's the one I use the most!

I bought this for my 9-year-old nephew, and tested it before I gave it to him. It's great for looking at the moon, and is sturdily built for being so inexpensive. I was worried that he wouldn't be able to operate himself, but it's simple enough to use that he can. He's enthralled by it. The manual says that you can see features on Mars, the rings around Saturn, and the moons of Jupiter. I haven't put it to those tests yet.

Why settle for ordinary when you can explore the extraordinary with the Travel Scope 80, a portable 80mm refractor telescope designed for both terrestrial and celestial viewing. This compact and lightweight telescope, weighing just 4.5 pounds, is your perfect companion for stargazing on the go, whether you're camping, hiking, or simply enjoying a night in your backyard.
The Travel Scope 80 opens up a universe of discovery, allowing you to observe the moon, planets, star clusters, and even brighter deep sky objects like the Orion Nebula and Andromeda Galaxy. Its erect image star diagonal not only makes it an ideal spotting scope during the day but also enhances your celestial viewing experience at night.
Ease of setup is a key feature of this high-quality telescope. Even if you're a beginner, you can assemble the telescope and its accessories in just a few minutes. The adjustable tripod legs offer flexibility, enabling you to customize the telescope's height or place it on raised surfaces like a picnic table.
Navigating the sky is a breeze with the manual Alt-Azimuth telescope. The pan handle Alt-Az control with clutch ensures smooth and accurate pointing, allowing you to track your object in the eyepiece in an up/down, left/right fashion.
The Travel Scope 80 comes equipped with two eyepieces (20 mm and 10 mm), offering different magnifications to view your intended object. The permanently mounted red dot finderscope aids in quickly centering an object in your eyepiece for easier observing.
One of the standout features of this telescope is the smartphone adapter. This light, rigid frame accessory allows you to connect any smartphone to any telescope eyepiece with an outside diameter of 45 mm or smaller. Capture stunning images of the Moon and planets with the additional magnification provided by the eyepiece. The adapter installs easily by clamping over the top of an eyepiece and securely locks your phone in place with the help of tightening knobs.
The Travel Scope 80 also comes with a custom travel backpack, providing a convenient way to store and transport your optical tube, tripod, eyepieces, and accessories.
To enhance your stargazing experience, the package includes a download of Celestron's Starry Night Software. This premier astronomy software package is a treasure trove of information about the night sky, celestial objects, and planning your next observing session.
With the Travel Scope 80, you're not just buying a telescope; you're embarking on a journey of celestial discovery.
