The unit is sturdy and well built. The head is likewise but with the handle on the head it's almost like shooting a hand gun therefore the "hunter" tag.  Excellent equipment all the way around. User friendly.

I am using this tripod mostly out in the field, I carry it on my back pack thus the weight is an issue but my budget could not stand the price per pound of carbon. It is still very easy to pack even at my age, and two new knees. The levers are easy to work and lock very well. Setting up to level is easy and it is very stable. I like this tripod.

Well built and sturdy

Fairly light, stable, easy to set up.  It didn't  5 stars only because I wish it had screw out spike legs.  Otherwise, I am very pleased.

great tripod for a good price

The unit itself is a bit heavy, but really, that's what I was looking for, something to hold up out in the wilderness while getting shots of birds, wildlife or landscapes.  This tripod is as described and should do just about everything I will ever need out of a tripod.

First real camera tripod

Nice strong tall stance, yet gets as low as a few inches for micro shots. Just big and heavy enough to get the job done.

Great general purpose tripod.

I shoot with a 5d  Mark ii.  I  wanted something that would feel sturdy for using my 70-200 2.8 with image stabilization.   I am very pleased with my purchase.   this is a very well made tripod  that is easy to use.   the weight isn't ideal for hiking,  but I knew that it was going to be a little heavier since it isn't carbon fiber.

very stable,  but slightly heavy

This is my go to tripod for all my uses. It is very sturdy and easy to use in any situation. I have had many tripods and this one is by far my favorite. It is not that compact as my others but does extend quite high up to 70".

Sturdy and easy to use

I have a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod that is great for travel or hiking but needed something more solid for my architectural and interior photography. I also really wanted the horizontal column.

I am extremely pleased with this tripod. It is very solid. My only issue with it is the weight. Between this and the head, it is very heavy. It's fine for the way I will be using it, but don't pick this thing as a travel setup. The other possible problem people might have with it is the height. I am 5'7", so with the head on it I can't fully extend the legs even with the center column collapsed. So, beware that this is a very tall tripod.

Other than those two small items, this is a great tripod. It will last me for years.

Great !!

I am reluctant to give 5 stars, just because I have not had it for long enough to test longevity.  I had the older version of these legs, and they served me for many years.  90% of my shooting is on a tripod.  I experienced a bad fall on rocks which permanently bent one of the lower legs just slightly, so it does not come in and out of the sheath very smoothly.  I have to yank it out and push it in.  I got sick of doing that, and I love just unlatching the locks and letting the legs slide out quickly, so that was a bummer.  
Compared to my other legs, I noticed that where the latches are attached to are now plastic, where before they were a hard material that felt like metal, but was more like porcelain (as one of them cracked and broke in the fall I mentioned).  The plastic may actually be more resilient, even though it doesn't look or feel as tough.  On the whole the legs are lighter, but still seem strong.  I really like the adjustable neck on this one, where you can move it horizontally so you can get super low to the ground.  The last model I had did not have that option.  I bought a shorter neck for my last one in order to be able to get closer to the ground.  I could have just reversed it, and put the camera upside-down, but it is much more tedious and the legs can get in the way.  I have a larger-than-I-need ballhead on this one that supports over 30lbs, on this so it is definitely more top heavy compared to using it with my older legs.  
So anyway, as of now, a 4, if they last as long as my old ones they will get a 5.  I am sure I will remember to adjust my review at that time :~)

Great tripod.  A little heavy, but "heavy" usually equals "sturdy".  Very easy to use and set up.  I'd recommend it without hesitation.

Not too heavy, not too light to be unsteady. With the Manfrotto ballhead it's easy to maneuver. All in all a good product.

Great tripod, reasonable price

My first pro tripod.  Combined it with a 502ah head. Using it with a sony nx7ou video camera.  You have to level it by adjusting the length of each leg.  Its tricky because there are only 3 legs and your looking at the level at an angle, can't look straight down at it.  The leg clamps are tight but this does make it hard to adjust them when leveling.  Still, it's top-notch pro gear.  You will have it for life.

It's a great tripod for a great price. It's a bit heavy, so that's something to keep in mind. Build quality is excellent.

Great deal

A customer asked " Does this tripod have a 3/8 attachment? would it work with this head?" Mine did not come with one, but I bought 6 - 1/4" - 3/8" adapters from Lowe's.  I also have a Bogen 3036 tripod which is very heavy-duty, strong and extends well over 6'. I take the Manfrotto 055XPROB with me most all the time, especially on assignments to Russia and other European countries. I especially like the 90 degree arm which the Bogen doesn't have. I do recommend this tripod for anyone wanting a light, compact and sturdy tripod.

excellent tripod

I bought this to do video shooting with my Canon 7D and it is ideal for that. I like the vesatility of the centre column which can be used creatively. I am pretty happy with the build quality of this.

Versatile Tripod Legs

"Made to order"

A solid stance and easy to set to any angle a reasonable person might need. Very well made and worth the extra $$. The only issue is the weight. While not heavy, you can't call it light either. If you don't mind the weight, it is perfect. The step up to carbonfiber is not worth the way too much money they are asking for those products. Save the money for something else (like a nice filter) and go with this champ.

Very solid (if a touch heavy) pro level

Sturdy. Exactly what I was looking for. It is the best option for size, weight and stability. Ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.

This is a very solid tripod. Like other tripods it telescopes to its full length very quickly, with out the center shaft up at all it stands as tall as me and I don't have to bend over like other tripods. Although it is heavier than other tripods it is much more versatile, and with the camera on it feels much stabler than my other tripods. I love the fact that the center shaft rotates to a horizontal position allowing me to use the macro shooting down on flowers and other things of interest. I like it very much and would recommend it. It arrived in a timely manner as is always the case when dealing with Adorama.

I Love the flexibility of this tripod.  Although it is a bit heavy, I feel confident it can handle the heaviest of lenses too.  It is extremely stable, so no worries of it tipping over.

Solid as a rock for my D700/D300 & 70-300mm lens

I was looking for a solid platform for my home studio. The product holds my camera, bracket and flash very sturdy!

It is a very versatile product in that I can use it on location as well. It is heavy - but not too much so. I feel anything physically lighter would not keep its stability in windy conditions.

The hook for hanging a weight for additional stability could be larger.

This tripod supports the weight of pro-level cameras and lenses without itself being too heavy.  I was so impressed with my first buy that I purchased a second one.

Manfrotto 05XPROB Tripod is a "Winner"

I bought this to use for portraits and some light video work. The absence of a ball level option makes it difficult to get the stand level when shooting video but works fine for portraits. The center column has a weird construction that makes it feel very delicate when loosening the joint but it hasn't caused any problems. I also wish it had a bigger hook to hang my sandbag from but I have found ways to make due. All around it is a great tripod for the money and I would recommend.

Not perfect but just what I needed

I enjoy the flexibility and options this tripod provides. It has a level but I have never used it.

Good all around tripod

This is my first professional tripod and there is a distinct improvement over amateur ones. The smallest tube on the legs of this Manfrotto is bigger than the biggest tube on my amateur tripod. This makes for a much more stable platform!
The only thing I wish this had was a carrying case.

Time for a real tripod

I Purchased this tripod for my wife to use in our Travel Photography and workshops. It is stable in all regards; but just too heavy for her to carry around in the outdoors.  Instead, we went with the carbon fiber tripod, and reduced weight significantly.  I recommend the quality and stability of this and other Manfrotto products, but I prefer the lighter carbon fiber tripod. The carbon fiber is excellent,  although it is twice the price.
