super mini for party pix

This teeny little flashlet is SO nice on a micro 4/3 Olympus or other compatible body. It is just enough to brighten faces at a party, light up a baby or a puppy without scaring it to death, or doing a head and shoulders shot without washing out the subject's cheeks.Best of all- you don't need to tote a load of extra batteries!

inconsistent results

I got this originally with an EP-1. I don't use it very often, but then I tend to be a natural light photographer, and with fast lenses, prefer ambient light to use of flash. However, when I have used it, I haven't been able to get consistent results, more often than not grossly overexposing the subjects. This might be error on my part, but there isn't any on-board controls to mess up, except for a mode button. On camera flash exposure compensation doesn't seem to do much on the ep-1, but again this may be user error. If so, I would say it is not very user freindly. On the plus side, it has a gn of 20. on the minus side, it doesn't tilt, which limits its use to fill flash IMO. If you have a built in flash I would pass on this, and if looking for a more powerful flash, I would look at the larger tiltable units designed specifically for m4/3

Meets Expectations

I use this on my Olympus EPL-1 for indoor short- to medium range snapshots, night snaps, and fill flash. It is not powerful but delivers what one can expect from a small flash and is a big improvement over the built-in camera flash. Does not balance well on EPL-1 body. Uses AAA batteries which, of course, drain very quickly no matter what the unit they are used with. The unit is quite expensive for what you get but it's the only game in town.

Better than nothing.

Very attractive retro-look. There's no "too much retro", right? Maybe too slow for fill focus. It does not help (no flash can, on the E-P1) with autofocus in the dark.
