I was never happy with my flash results until I purchased this FL-50! Now my flash pictures are great! The guide rating is excellent and the recycle time is so fast I don't even have to think about it before the next shot. My confidence in flash photography has increased dramatically because of the FL-50.

I use this with an Evolt 500. Works great, but I have to constantly re-lock the flash onto the hotshoe. It works loose and will fall to the ground. By the way- it can take a licking!

Very good results with all the photos I have taken. Doesn't blast the subject with light. Mates extremely well with my E-1. I had tried the FL-36 but it does not seem to work nearly as well with the E-1. It is fine with my E-300.

When it works, it delivers great results. I've had a number of circumstances where the camera and the flash wouldn't communicate, especially when cold. When this happens either the camera thinks it's not attached and tries to pop up the internal flash or the FL-50 doesn't fire at all. Don't know if it's a camera issue or flash issues but for a flash supposedly matched for this camera the results are mixed. I should mention that the camera is an E-500.

Use this flash With Olympus E300 and into Umbrellas for Main or fill lighting, with radio triggers. Never given me any proplems, camera communicates well with lens choice and flash focal length.

I bought this flash for the Leica DigiLux-3, which uses the Olympus flash electronics within the camera. It integrates very well with that camera and the exposures are consistent when using this more powerful flash unit instead of the internal pop-up. It does not have the capability of controlling multiple flash units like the Canon 580EX or Nikon SB-800, but all, in all, I'm satisfied with the build quality, the ease of use, and the seamless integration with my camera.

Great Flash
By Lbarber
Works great with my evolt 500. No problems at all.
The FL-50 Flash offers all the features a professional wants to produce professional-caliber results.
Along with the standard bounce and swivel capability, power zoom and a full range of TTL Automatic, Automatic and Manual flash modes, the FL-50 offers the Super FP Mode. This allows for flash sync at speeds up to 1/4000th second so fill-flash can be used in the brightest of situations.
This is achieved by the flash's ability to fire before the shutter opens and stay illuminated until after the shutter closes. Designed specifically for digital photography, the FL-50 flash also has more even illumination with less corner fall-off than traditional film flashes. The Guide Number is 164 feet/50 meters at ISO 100.
The FL-50 can be powered by multiple power sources, including standard AA-type Alkaline, NiCad, Ni-MH, Lithium batteries, LB-01 (CR-3V) batteries or be used in conjunction with the separate HV-1 High Voltage Power Pack or Power Flash Grip for additional power and speed capabilities.
When connected with the optional SHV-1 Flash high-voltage set, the FL-50 will recharge between shots in just 1.5 seconds.
Flash coverage is automatically adjusted in several steps to correspond to the image area when zooming. A built-in diffuser can be used to obtain wide-angle coverage at an 8mm focal length (equivalent to 16mm on a 35mm camera).
The flash features an AF lamp to extend the reach of the ca mera's AF system from 7m to 10m.
With the Olympus E-1 digital SLR, you can control the flash intensity 1/3EV steps, as well as take advantage of features such as red-eye reduction, slow synchronisation and second curtain synchronisation.
