It has maybe been a couple years since I bought a new tripod...I was using the Benro's for a while with Manfrotto quick release plates and heads. This Manfrotto 55 has some really great features and options to make it a great tripod in the studio and the field.

This tripod came looking better than it does on photos, the locks are smooth and very quick to access making the work flow process quick, can't wait to use it even more.

Great tripod for tall photographers. (I'm 5'10".) Was also able to use it to shoot over other peoples' heads at a recent outdoor festival. Easy to set up and very sturdy. A bit heavy, but I don't expect to carry it everywhere I photograph so that isn't an issue for me. Very happy with this purchase.

Its a heavy, heavy duty tripod. Very sturdy and trusting. I like it even considering the weight of it.

Truly the best tripod I've ever used. Holds the camera strong and very sturdy legs, this is designed really well and isn't heavy to tote around either. This is my first manfrotto brand tripod and i'm never going back to the cheap ones ever again.

I?m really enjoying this tripod! The legs could be better made to make less noise when opening but that?s nit picking. Overall it?s great

This is a great tripod. After a critical part of my inexpensive lightweight tripod broke off, I decided to get a sturdy one. All of the reviews I read were positive on this tripod. At a cost about ten times what I paid for my lightweight one, I couldn?t be happier. Three leveling bulbs instead of one and what a difference they make! I really like the way the legs pop out when I pull back the clasp. I like the center pole that is easy to pop up and easy to turn perpendicular when I?m in a difficult position. It?s so easy to attach the camera too, and no worry about it coming loose from the three-way head that is so easy to adjust and then stays put while I take pictures. If I have any complaints, they are very minor. I miss the carrying handle that was on the old tripod and I wish all three legs had those rubber things to grab onto instead of just two. Two minor details out of the many great details. I haven?t tried all of them yet?like sitting it down almost to ground level. Love it!

I moved to this from a Vanguard Alta Pro thinking that it would be a major upgrade, but it's a mix. The Vanguard needed a ton of maintenance and broke in the field frequently. This seems much more solidly-constructed, but the right-angle mechanism is not even remotely as elegant as Vanguard's design, and is much more difficult to use. You also cannot invert the center column, and there are so few ratchet positions on the legs that when you're down low with an ultra wide, it's very difficult to get your vertical position fine-tuned. Vanguard's mechanism let you change the angle of the center column when horizontal, which alleviated this issue somewhat on their model, but Manfrotto's implementation gives you 90 degrees only. I wish I'd know the horizontal column implementation was so lackluster before purchasing, it's so useless on this model that I wish I'd just gotten a taller model with no center column at all. On top of that - the leg ratchets are VERY annoying to use in the field - the motion of pushing down the metal releases while moving the leg at the same time as maintaining an often-delicate position of the other legs makes for a frustrating experience.

This tripod is just what I was looking for. I wanted something sturdy, versatile, and tall and this fit that profile. It is fairly heavy, but I was looking for a heavier tripod as the lighter ones tend to be less sturdy in my experience.

This is my favorite tripod legs. I've had about 8. Great size weight and versatility. Center column horizontally a bit tricky with a big DSLR (D850) but doable with some fiddling and counterweight. Skip the Bogen head. This tripod is great with an Arca Tech ball head.

This tripod can take an incredible amount of abuse! Highly recommend for people like me who are rough on their gear. I've had mine for about 6 years and I'm just now finally noticing some wear and tear because I've put it through some extreme conditions and, again, just plain abuse. I've had it 2/3 submerged in the Rappahannock River, outside in a snowbank overnight in -25°F temps, filled with sand and salt spray from the beach, and thousands of miles rattling around in the back of my vehicle. It handles the weight of a Wimberley gimbal, a supertelephoto, and a hefty DSLR easily. Maybe it's heavy but honestly I only notice that when it stays planted in the wind. There are a couple minor downsides - As another reviewer mentioned, the bubble level tends to get in the way when paired with a ball head - you can move it but if you're trying to be quick it can be annoying. I also had the other issue reported by another reviewer -- the metal ring popped off the center column while I was pulling it up and the two red pieces went flying. I got it back together but I have to be careful with it now when adjusting the center column or it will pop loose. Here's the wear and tear I really can't blame on the product, but... When exposed to extreme cold, the feet will pop out (I assume the metal and/or rubber feet are contracting). It doesn't seem like they actually screw in, but are just secured with friction or maybe some glue that wore off. Something to watch for when you pull it out of the snowbank! Finally, the latches for adjusting the legs have recently started to get really loose, which can pretty quickly cause your tripod to tip as one leg segment retracts -- yikes! It looks like I'll be able to tighten it with a simple socket wrench, I just haven't gotten around to buying the right tool. If I'm careful with that ring around the center column and don't lose it in a river or something, I can see this lasting me a very long time. Highly recommend.

Amazingly light, sturdy & tall. A great deal! I had an old aluminium tripod which was sturdy but so heavy, this is so much nicer to take with me.

This tripod is great so far! Lighter weight than I was expecting but still feels very sturdy. Snaps to release the legs are not too tight - a problem I've had with other tripods. The ability to position the center rod in two directions is awesome and that connection too feels very strong. Such a great purchase!

This tripod has been my go to for years. Solid construction and has held up over years of daily use in my real estate photography business. Constant daily indoor and outdoor use cause some loosening in the leg clamps but a simple nut driver in my go-bag remedies that issue. I would totally recommend this tripod to any serious real estate photographer.

Exceptional quality. Was surprised when tripod was delivered without a head. I was not told at time of ordering causing rush to obtain one as I was on a deadline. Tripod is heavy as you might expect for the above average quality.

The tripod is a beast! It is solid, sturdy, and easily adjustable. I love that I can adjust the height of the camera up and down without having to adjust the leg height. I also really like being able to adjust the arm to hand the camera be held upside down for video work. It is a bit heavy, but I do a lot of sports team work outdoors, and it’s very windy here, so I actually love the weight of it!

I purchased this to support a Sigma 150-600mm C lens with a Canon R. My prior tripod had too much flex and carried vibration to the lens which negated the value of a tripod. The Mk055Xpro3-3W combo is extremely sturdy. The 3 way head is dampened in all planes and is a great all purpose for both stills and casual video work. The tripod does an excellent job of securely stabilizing my Canon R and 150-600mm lens and frankly the head is fast enough to track birds without needing a gimbal (at least so far). The legs and head are made of aluminum and the tripod and head are manufactured in Italy. The quality, fit and finish all seem excellent. This tripod is not light nor heavy. It packs well and is great if you are driving to a destination for say bird photography. I would personally not go hiking with it.

Replaced my wife's 1969 Tilt-all (the best tripod of it's day). Two days later spent all day shooting art at a small community museum. SO MUCH BETTER! The built in level made it quick and easy to get things square. When I needed to shoot low, I could spread the legs way out, not possible on a '69 Tilt-all :-) Adjusting legs much easier. Should have done this years ago.

I got this tripod so I can take shots in windy Chicago weather, and to compensate for the light weight of mirrorless camera. And it is all I wanted! It is not a hiking tripod, just too heavy, but if you drive to your location, with not much walking around, it is perfect.

This tripod is solid and easy to use. I use it on a lot of irregular terrain and it doesn't wobble or fall. I am a small woman so it is a bit heavy for me, but I wouldn't trade it as it does the job. I received it as a gift and I am so glad I did.

Great for macro
By Michael H.
Love the adjustable center column. Great tripod for macro.
The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber 4 Sections Tripod with Horizontal Column delivers maximum rigidity from the lightest components, a masterpiece of engineering designed for photographers who want the best from their tripod and need it to be easily transportable. The 100% carbon fibre tubes and new QPL leg locking system increase the tripod's rigidity and absorb vibrations, stabilizing camera equipment under any conditions. Carbon fibre tubing and magnesium castings also reduce the weight of this tripod compared to the equivalent aluminum version. The 4-section leg design allows this tripod to fold to a more compact size for easier transportation.
It is its 90deg. center column mechanism, which allows the column to be extended vertically as normal, or horizontally to open up a wide range of framing and shooting possibilities; this makes the 055CXPRO4 an extremely versatile tripod, suitable for a wide range of photography and video applications. The horizontal column mechanism is housed within the tripod's top casting for compactness, but it is easily and quickly extended whenever you need it. Switching between vertical and horizontal column orientation requires no disassembly and can even be done with a camera attached.
The 4-section legs of the 055CXPRO4 tripod make it extremely compact: together with the height saving of the new horizontal column mechanism, 4-section legs help to reduce the closed length of this tripod - a boon for any travelling photographer. The legs are also fast to extend and adjust, thanks to the Quick Power Lock levers that block and unblock each leg section. The special design of the QPL levers allows a more comfortable single-handed opening of all leg sections in one action. QPL's lever design also offers more powerful locking of each section, meaning the tripod is more stable and rigid than with traditional lever designs. Intuitive and ergonomic leg angle selectors allow each leg to be independently and solidly set to any of the preset angles, again allowing considerable positioning freedom.
A bubble level is built in to the top of the center column for precise framing. The bubble level rotates freely around the center column, so it can be positioned wherever it's easiest for you to see it while adjusting the tripod and without it either being obscured by the mounted head and camera, or getting in the way of head or camera controls.
The top casting of the 055CXPRO4 has an Easy Link connector for supporting a photo or video accessory (such as an LED light, flash, reflector, or other piece of equipment) on an extending arm or bracket and making the tripod into a practical mobile studio.
