The lens is so perfect for home lifestyle images. I have not used it in my studio yet. However, I love its versatility.

We bought this with our D7200, it's been a great lens for everything. Hiking, portraits, horses and pets. I've been impressed that I can take a clear photo from a distance and a few seconds later zoom in on a wildflower. My favorite photos have been taken with this lens.

So far so good photos look nice and clear ,it's not my main lens but it's nice to have a zoom for just general photos till I can save up and get a lens zoom like the 70-200 1.4 but that crazy expensive.

Excellent, every day walk-around lens when you only want to take one lens! Relatively light, and VR is a goodness! Outstanding sharpness in the bargain. Not a macro lens, but good closeups are easy! Not a "cheap" lens, but INEXPEN$IVE! The autofocus is almost instantaneous, and the VR is marvelous, particularly when a person is older, and not a steady as he/she used to be!

I bought this lens to go with a D7500 body. The lens is very well built, focuses smoothly, and the pictures from a color and sharpness POV are excellent . This lens is very balanced with the D7500 body-

I hesitated to buy this lens because online reviews criticized it for various things. Well, now I wish I had bought it with the camera (a D7500) in the first place. Seriously, don’t let the internet nitpickers deter you. Though I already own other lenses including highly-recommended primes, I’m perfectly satisfied to leave this lens on the camera at all times unless I specifically need a very wide aperture. Sure, it may be a so-called convenience lens, but it’s one heck of a convenience. It’s a well-built lens with metal mount that balances well on the camera, and at the expense of some linear distortion you expect from a super zoom, it’s surprisingly sharp. You can’t really add sharpness, but you can certainly correct distortion on those photos where it matters, so in my opinion, it’s a good design philosophy on Nikon’s part. All things considered, this is an excellent walkaround lens that will get you the shots that present themselves, l highly recommend it.

If you are out traveling and only want to carry a single lens this is it. Clear and sharp and with aperture sizes useful in most lighting situations. Solid construction and with manual VR and focus switches that fit many photo needs perfectly. Will be on my camera most of the time. Don’t forget the lens hood.

I bought this lens as a kit lens with a D7500, and think it's a great walking around lens. Yes, it's bigger than the 18-55. When I shot the 18-55, I was always wishing it had a little more reach. The 18-140 focuses quickly and has pretty good reach. I've been happy with the images. Yes, it vignettes at the tele end when shot wide open. But what lens doesn't? Purists would scoff, but I clean it up in Photoshop and don't worry too much about it. It's a great lens.

I haven't done a great deal of photos with the lens but so far I would consider the lens a fantastic lens for my Nikon 7500 and myself.

Cet objectif rencontre 90% de mes besoins. Qualité irréprochable. Parfait compagnon de voyage. Je suis un amateur de photographie depuis ma jeunesse et redécouvre ma passion avec cet objectif et mon d5600. Les deux font la paire!

Not too heavy to carry about and has a lot of capability for most any street use. Stabilizing feature works very well and focuses quickly.

When I want my dslr, but still want to travel light, I stick this lens on, and toss the camera in my backpack, and go. But that was mainly to minimize the carrying weight. It lets me go from wide landscapes to moderately close wildflower shots, which means it can cover a lot of what I want to shoot, when I'm hiking. But I really wasn't sure if I liked this lens' sharpness until a recent hike in Griffith Park. This shot was taken with the camera on an inexpensive travel tripod, 130mm, ISO 200, f/8, 2.5 seconds, on my D3400, auto white balance .jpeg. Of course, at the scale you see it in this review, you can't really tell, but it is pleasantly sharp on my computer screen. You'll have to take my word for it! I usually don't hike with a tripod unless I actually am intent on shooting nighttime skyscapes. That's even though I know, cognitively, that it'll always be sharper with a tripod than hand-held. I just prefer the speed and freedom of walking, and stopping to take shots on the fly. This was just a solid reminder that, if I *really* care about getting a shot, sometimes I actually do need to set down my backpack and compose my shot, properly.

Fantastic lens. Extremely versatile focus range at a reasonable f/ speed. It eliminates most lens swapping - good for 95% of my photography.

I have to say, this lens far exceeded my expectations. This is a really versatile lens. It has performed well in all situations. As others have said, once you put it on, you may never take it off again. I have a 35mm f1.8 and a 70-300 VR that I may use ocassionly for specific reasons, but the 18-140mm will remain on my D5600 99% of the time.

I am a hobbyist that enjoys photographing family & friends (documentary/lifestyle), landscapes, and anything that catches my eye. This is my main 'walk-around' lens when out hiking or walking with my family. It has just enough reach for far away subjects and wide enough to capture the whole scene. I recently used it at an airshow where it performed great!

I really like this lense for flexibility. I bought it to take to Italy so I would have a wider zoom range than the 18-55 but not and huge and heavy as my 55-300. Worked very well! I am a hobbyist and I take publicity shots on a volunteer basis for a dog rescue. This lense has helped me get good up close shots and to “sneak up” on a dog from further away. Also good with my kids.

At first, I thought the images were soft. But I just needed to become accustomed to the camera and the lens. I did an autofocus test with a tripod and a test pattern. I blurred the focus with the ring. Then, I pressed and released the shutter. I saw very good edge to edge sharpness at all focal lengths tested. I bought this lens as a kit with the D5500. What a pair. I like the fact that I holster this combo. It is always at the ready. It is like a small complete camera kit in a compact size. This pairing performs very well set to AUTO everything. Auto ISO makes this lens better than the native F/3.5-5.6G. This reliability gives you time to graduate to custom and manual settings.

When I upgraded to my D7200 I got the 18-140mm lens and I believe I keep this lens on 70% of the time; the other 30% I only change the lens if the situation calls for one of my prime lens or I need some major telephoto reach for birds & wildlife. The Bokeh/ DOF on this 18-140 is pretty decent, specially when you're zoomed in all the way to 140mm...I've manage to get some great shots of my wife & daughter on casual walks, some awesome landscape/ cityscape and close-ups of flowers. Autofocus, sharpness, exposure and color clarity are all top notch. *I've tried to upload pictures twice for this review and the upload keeps failing....I could post links to some my picture on Instagram, but adding a URL on here is against the review guidlines.

I purposely held off on writing this review until I had had a chance to use the lens. I shoot a Nikon D3300 and have used only the kit lenses that came with the camera. The two reasons why I decided to pursue the 18-140mm lens were: 1) lack of sharpness in the kit lenses that came with the camera, and, 2) I wanted an all-in-one lens that I could carry rather than to carry two lenses and have to keep switching them out. At first I ordered a refurbished lens and was not happy with it at all. I contacted Adorama and they were awesome to work with and I decided to replace that lens with a new one. It made all the difference in the world! I absolutely love my 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AF-S DX NIKKOR VR lens! My photos are sharp and the only time I take it off of my camera is when I use a prime lens.

This is a GREAT general purpose lens. One lens that can do 80-90% of what you want it to do. With its coverage range, you don't have to change lenses, like you would with an 18-55 + 55-200 kit. There are a couple short comings: - The lens is borderline big/heavy for a standard lens that is always on the camera. Maybe OK for a college age person, but as you get older, the weight becomes more of an issue. A VR version of the 18-70 pushed out slightly to 18-80 would be ideal, to help reduce the carry weight. - The lens is SLOW. It drops down to f/4.5 at 40mm and f/5.6 at 100mm. Going down to f/5.6 at 100mm hurts. As an outdoor daytime lens, it is great. But, if you shoot sports at night or indoor without a flash, you will need to crank up the ISO level, and put up with the reduced image quality at the high ISO level.

I have been using this particular lens for the past two and a half years. The lens was part of the kit which included the D7000 body. Through the years, i have been quite satisfied with the lens in terms of image quality, ease of handling, autofocus speed etc. However, the plastic ring attached to the barrel, just in front of the zoom ring came detached in the first month of gentle use (no exposure to harsh outdoor elements or physical abuse). Initially, i thought that the detached ring would merely be a cosmetic defect and not affect functionality. However, i soon found out that the detached ring would extend into the distended main barrel when zoomed and hinder the full extension of the barrel - the ring effectively blocked smooth zooming A simple fix would have been to glue the plastic ring back in place. However, it is disappointing to see such poor manufacturing/quality control on a lens by a manufacturer priding itself on making top notch lenses. I am not sure if i would turn to Nikon lenses in the future.

I bought this lens with my Nikon D7500 in early July. The image quality with of the lens is excellent, and the DX 18-140mm makes a perfect walk around lens. I also have the D800 with 24-140mm f4 lens. When I compare the raw files from both lens in Lightroom, I am pleasantly surprised how well this DX format lens preforms. I have included a portrait made with this lens in JPEG format.

AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens
By Fred
We got the 18-140mm lens with our purchase of the Nikon D5300 camera. We wanted one zoom lens for general photography. The choice was between the 18-140mm, the 18-55mm, and the bigger DX zooms like the 18-200mm or 18-300mm. We wanted one lens so we wouldn’t have to carry a lot of gear around with us. The goal was for a light and relatively small camera outfit. The 18-55mm just didn’t have the reach at the telephoto end and it has a plastic mount ----- I HATE the plastic mounts and would neve...

Great all-around DX lens
By eric1010
I wanted a lens that I could keep on the camera most of the time. This one fits the bill. The 18-55 kit lens is sometimes too short. The 55-200 kit lens is sometimes too long. This lens spans almost the entire range, while still only about the size of the 55-200mm lens. The focus is very sharp. A good length for portraits - wide enough for group shots, and long enough to get shots without getting in too close. I was thinking this would be the perfect kit lens, and I see that Nikon has start...

Take your photography to new heights with the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens, a high-quality, versatile, and reliable choice for Nikon DX-format camera enthusiasts. Boasting an expansive 27-210mm equivalent focal length range, this innovative lens is adept at capturing everything from sweeping landscapes to detailed mid-telephoto subjects, making it an indispensable tool for photographers of all levels.
Crafted with Superior Optical Precision, the lens features an advanced optical design that includes one aspherical element and one extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element. These elements work in harmony to correct spherical and chromatic aberrations, ensuring that each image is rendered with outstanding sharpness, contrast, and true-to-life color fidelity. Whether you're photographing serene natural scenes or vibrant cityscapes, your photos will be characterized by their clarity and brilliance.
Enhanced by Nikon's Super Integrated Coating, the lens elements combat internal reflections, flare, and ghosting, even in backlit or challenging lighting conditions. This cutting-edge coating technology contributes to superb image contrast and maintains color accuracy across the entire frame.
Experience the convenience of silent and swift autofocus thanks to the Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This innovative feature delivers fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus operation, complemented by the ability to seamlessly switch to manual focus with full-time manual focus override. The internal focusing design keeps the lens compact and lightweight, ensuring that the lens does not change in length during focusing and providing quicker focusing performance.
Equipped with Vibration Reduction (VR) technology, the lens effectively compensates for camera shake, allowing you to shoot at shutter speeds up to four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. This is particularly beneficial when shooting in low-light conditions or when capturing distant subjects at the telephoto end of the zoom range, ensuring your images remain sharp and free from the effects of camera shake.
The lens's 7.8x zoom range is remarkably versatile, covering a wide-angle to telephoto perspective. At the wide end, the 18mm focal length is perfect for expansive shots, while the 140mm telephoto end brings distant subjects into clear focus. The close minimum focusing distance of 1.48 feet allows for macro-style photography, adding to the lens's flexibility.
Embodying the NIKKOR legacy, the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens is engineered to maximize the performance of high-resolution Nikon D-SLRs. With its combination of ED glass, aspherical lens elements, and renowned SWM, this lens upholds the NIKKOR tradition of exceptional construction and superior optics, making it a durable and innovative choice for photographers seeking to elevate their craft.
