Closer focus is GREAT! Lens creates perfectly clear photos or plenty of smooth bokeh as you wish. Stars are shockingly clear and colorful, f1.4 is well worth it! Highest flawless quality of Leica as expected, controls feel very good.

I have done extensive field testing across four continents in every imaginable context with both the 35mm Summicron and the 35mm Summilux. Without a doubt, the Summilux produces far superior results over the Summicron. The real magic of the Summilux is at ƒ/1.4. The focus is incredibly forgiving at that aperture (unlike the 50mm Summilux) and you can nail shots all day long at ƒ/1.4. The results are nothing short of phenomenal.

The Leica Summilux-TL 35mm lens an amazing lens. It is biting sharp at all apertures and from corner to corner, and is every bit as good as the legendary Summilux-M on the Leica T - with the added convenience of Autofocus, which is fast enough on the T. Color rendition, micro contrast, and the way the lens handles lighting transitions (going from shadows to light) are all second to none - and combined they are what make Leica lenses so special. The bokeh is really creamy and beautiful, and you can create stunning images with that "Leica look" with this lens. It's a big step up from the other Leica T lenses - which are all outstanding and class leading as well. The lens is very well constructed (built like a tank) but it's a tad large and heavy. It is well-balanced on the Leica T when using the half-case for better grip. I was surprised that chromatic aberrations are a problem on occasion - but this is not a major problem as they are easily corrected in post-processing. (Weight and chromatic aberrations are why I gave it only 4 stars) While it's expensive, it's a lot cheaper than the Summilux-M and is every bit as good. I have no regrets with this purchase but I do wish it was $400 less as it was originally advertised by Leica.

It's expensive and worth every penny.

Nice lens. Wide-open shooting is no problem for this lens so far. I am still holding on to my Summicron as it is quite a bit lighter. I haven't seen any noticeable difference in sharpness.

Stiff focus and loose aperture ring. After comparing the Summilux to the 35 Summicron. I feel the Summicron is best.
