This is crap. Don't buy it. You get to transfer maybe upto 5 images before the connection craps out and then you have to reboot it and the app (which then re-examines all the files on your sd cards). One would think after this has been out for a decade and Nikon must be WELL AWARE of issues, that they haven't made a better product. Furthermore, why does my dad's 5000 series (dx) have built in wifi while my 610 (full frame) has to use this sh*** adapter?

i tried using this with my Nikon Df while traveling as I hoped to avoid brining a laptop and just backing up to phone, but this product was extremely slow and would keep on disconnecting. i had to keep it inches from phone and it still kept dropping. i managed to transfer a handful of photos and gave up

I was looking at the Cam Ranger to tether my D600 to, but didn't want to spend that much money at this time. So I opted for the WU-1b. It works!, it's a little slow, which is too bad, but for what i paid for it, it's a fair trade off. I use the Helicon Remote with it, instead of the Nikon WMU. Overall it does what I want it to. Maybe I will upgrade to the Cam Ranger in the future, but for now this works for me.

Great reliability using on an Android tablet, and super easy to use. It is limited, as you can't change camera settings using Nikon's WMU app (that is recommended for this device). Still, for a remote trigger with viewfinder on a tablet, it does the job.

Completely wasted my time trying to get this to work with my iPhone 5s. It will control the camera in a totally unreliable way and consistently fails to download a picture. Loses the network connection, freezes up, and is very annoying. Pretty much a useless waste of money. I have used it twice in two years and the experience was the same each time.

I just brought the Wu-1b a few days ago so that after taking photos I can quickly access them using my Ipad/ Iphone in order to review or share them. I was tired of taking photos and having to wait until I got home to load/edit them and then send them to family or friends. I use this product with the D600. First let me say, its a pretty helpful tool in doing what I just explained, however let me clarify two issues that I have with it that I misunderstood before purchasing it. First I was under the impression that once I took a picture with the adapter connected to the camera and the ipad/phone that it would automatically appear on my device in order for me to review. Well that's incorrect. Once you take a photo(s) you must then go into the Nikon App, access the photos via the app and then select the photo you want to review. This was somewhat a disappointment however not a deal breaker. Secondly, I noticed that once I took a photo and then selected it to view, that the photo was very pixelated whether I viewed it on the iphone or Pad which made me very upset and I started to feel as if I wasted my money on this product. However what I later discovered is that once you take a photo(s), you then have to "select" those photos and then "download" them. Once you download your photo and then review that downloaded photo the pixelated problem is pretty much cleared and it appears to be a very much easier photo on the eyes. This discovery was a kinda a "no brainer" discovery after it was made and it makes sense to me now. Overall it is a good product and so far I enjoy it.

The first time I used it to take photos of granddaughter at hospital. It set up easily to Nexus tablet and D610. I had photos online in minutes. I did this in the hospital using their Wi-Fi. Not the best instructions but easily repeatable. Four and one half stars for clunky in the way dongle and high battery drain. Next camera I buy will have built in wi-fi Thought about eye-fi or similar SD card, but chose the dongle approach.

Doesn't work on Windows Phone. Come on Nikon, make it available for Windows users.

I have an iPad (3) iPhone 5s iPhone 6 and a Nikon d600. I couldn't connect any of these to the most useless device in the world, the wU-1b adapter.

I use this with the Helicon Remote App on my Samsung phone and tablet and it works great. You can change almost every setting, preview shots, save photos to the tablet or camera and more. Easy to setup and the results are awesome!

System works as advertised for Android connection. There is no iPAD app. There is an iPhone app.... which means Nikon has not kept the app current.

The Nikon WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter worked only one time on my Galaxy S3 smart phone. After that, it did not work. It does not work with my iPad either. Bottom line: A worthless piece from Nikon. It is useless. The warranty has expired so I am stuck with it.

I have been struggling with this adapter for almost a year and have given up. Lose connection ad distances of less than 1ft. Have tried with multiple devices with the same failure. I would not recommend.

Using an iPad 3 on iOS 7.1, this was absolutely terrible. The resolution doesnt fit the screen. The app lags and freezes, it loses connection from the camera at under 6 feet, the download speed of even L-Fine jpgs is about 20 seconds with my D610. Nikon should be ashamed for putting their quality name on such an underwhelming product.

It was a pain to even get the first photo to transfer. I've read reviews about interference from other devices or networks.... My family and I went to the mountains for a camping trip, no cell service and no other sort of "interference". It was unable to download 8 pictures, I got 2 but then it kept crashing. I tried with small images, large images and everything in-between. NOTHING worked.... This little device is JUNK. Just FYI I've been a photographer for over 20 years and worked on macs for 17 years. I'm very computer and network savvy. This device is cheap and poorly put together. I wish I could get my money back but oh well.

Installed easily and works without flaw between my Samsung Android devices and my Nikon1 AW1. A great convenience for a reasonably quick download as well as for remote control of the camera from my cell or tablet. Great buy for the price.

I tried using this with the iPad I I was not successful in making it work. Maybe it is because I have the first generation of iPad.

The device works pretty well, once you can set it up. Getting the correct app takes some time and a high frustration tolerance. The documentation with the product is shakey. I suggest that you go to http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Wireless/WU-1b-Wireless-Mobile-Adapter.html to download the correct app. I would not advise using this product when shooting raw images, they take forever to download. Having the ability to control the camera from the tablet is great, but also slow. This is not a tether. However, I think that it could become a useful tool.

This is a useless gadget without support for the most popular operating system in the world. What is Nikon thinking, not creating a Windows app?

This works fine but took me way too long to set up, mostly because the directions were incomplete. First, if you've got an iPad you need to search for iPhone apps because there isn't one for the iPad. Figured that one out but still couldn't get it to work. Directions said to plug it into my camera and start transferring, but they neglected to mention that I had to turn the adapter on in the settings on my Nikon 1 AW1. Once I got the app and the adapter working the rest was easy.

I tried it with my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, my iPad air and my iPad 3. On all 3 devices it could not connect to the camera or it connected and then disconnected saying the signal was too low even though the camera and the device were less than a foot away.

Wish this was built into my d610, but works fine with my iphone 4, ipad 2nd gen. and ipad air (w/ the Nikon app.) The small case, and leash helps keep it nearby and convenient. Nikon needs to work more on the app than on any hardware upgrade. Plus cost is very reasonable IMHO.

I tried to use iphone 5 and iphone 4. And it only work well with iphone 4 with no other wifi configured. I wish they can make this device to use bluetooth connection that would resolve all the problem everyone is having a problem.

I have a Nikon 1 J3. The WU-1b connects my camera and my tablet, and it takes a picture when I tap the button, but that's it. There is no "tap to focus" option in any focus setting. The software ignores manual settings. The software ignores manual focus. I knew before purchasing that changes to settings couldn't be made from within the app, but I did expect it that it would use the settings I selected prior to connecting. I love my camera, but at this point I don't understand why they put a bulb function in the J3 since bulb is more or less unusable without a remote control and the only remote available for it is the WU-1b and its much-to-be-desired software. Being able to use bulb without holding down the button and getting blurry photos was the prime reason I bought the adapter, but the software effectively neuters the adapter for use with this camera. I cannot recommend this product for use with the Nikon 1 system at this point. If they fix the issue of the software totally ignoring the camera settings, that would change.

Wireless Live View on my 10" Screen!
By NikkoNikon
Sure, there's a bit of a delay, but the fact that I can remote view and shoot my DSLR from 15 feet away is amazing! Others may have reported wireless issues, but I haven't had any.
The WU-1a and WU-1b are USB wireless adapters that can establish a two way wireless connection between specific cameras and iOS and Android smart devices and tablets. The USB connections on the WU-1a and WU-1b are different so it is important that the correct adapter is used for the specific camera.
The WU-1a and WU-1b wireless adapters quickly installs on the camera. When not in use, the wireless adapters can be removed and stored in a camera bag.
