I purchased the PT-EP01 a little more than a week before I traveled down to Key West the last week of September 2013. I already had an E-PL1 (the camera for which the case is made) and I wanted something to take with myself and my wife into the water when we snorkeled. I was afraid the housing wouldn't arrive in time because when I ordered it it was out of stock and on order. But it finally arrived in Adorama's warehouse, and was shipped in three days to my home, arriving the Saturday right before we left. Kudos to Adorama for their prompt shipping and service. The case is extremely easy to use, with all the E-PL1's controls coming out of the case with very large waterproof buttons, easy to toggle either in or out of the water. The case is extremely waterproof. It never leaked one drop of water the whole time I used it, even when I was opening the case to pull out the camera and download the photos from the E-PL1's card. One key feature is the case floats if you "drop" it while in the water. This happened several times, and it simply popped back up to the surface. Since it came right up next to us it was a simple matter to grab the case and camera, put the loop that comes with the case back on our wrist, and keep using the camera. The only issue is that the display is dim in the bright Florida sun and just under the surface. But we quickly learned to aim over the top, and at 17mm on the 14-42mm MKII zoom, we got plenty of good photos with the combination. I would buy this case again, especially at the low sale price Adarama sold it to me.

I love my Pen so I was super excited to get this and try it out. I was debating between this housing or a new Sea Life. So glad I choose this. So far it's only been snorkeling with me but it takes amazing pictures. Easy to use. Has all the functions that the Pen does without the housing. Must spring for the zoom ring if you want to be able to zoom at all. Now all I need is a strobe for it. Can't wait to try it while diving :)

Bought this as a kit and what a steal of a deal. Only downside is that it doesn't include the zoom ring for the kit lens, which I think should have been included or at least pointed out that it's an extra.

Several reviews on diving photography sites gave this housing high marks for ease of use. It also can accomodate two different lenses (M. Zuiko 14-42mm zoom and 60mm macro prime lenses)without vignetting the image circle. The twin ports for the fiber optic strobe cables allow easy use of twin strobes for minimizing the backscatter effects of particulates present in the water column. The housing, camera and two strobes with arms attached tends to have a slight postive bouyancy which is not hard to compensate for with small counter weights. The size and weight of my total setup is far easier to handle than a DSLR with the same type of equipment. My total system (Olympus camera E-PL1, Olympus housing EP01, two strobes with a tray and arms, cables and accessories) is also easy to pack for airline travel in one moderate sized camera bag. The images I have captured are equal in quality to some photos I have made using my antique Nikonos V film cameras. I have logged about 21 dives with this housing system to date with some 390 images so far.

We are avid divers enjoy underwater photography. This housing works better than the expensive models. It is versatile for both pictures and video. It's a real upgrade vs the previous underwater housing we had as it's easy to use and viewfinder is easy to read.

i have been using this casing once a month for the last 6 months-about 50 dives. avrage depth of 18M so says my dive comp. no problems so far with flooding. the casing has plenty of space for dessicants pouches which i like. the clear plastic back is good for spotting flooding. a manual focus ring would be nice. and a dome port would be even better. u need a focusing light for this casing, not a handicap on the casing features but the camera. overall, it is still the best value for money for me at the moment.

Only just received this item from Adorama. It looks very good so far, but I have not used it diving yet.NOTE: (and the reason for this post) you need to order the zoom gear for the PL1 kit 14-42mm (and the 9mm) lens as a separate 'optional extra' item, which is not clear on website.

One of the biggest challenges of photographing in water—as opposed to air—is dealing with small dust-like particles that are in the water. They are the enemy of underwater photography.

The PT-EP01 underwater case has been especially customized for one camera of the PEN family, the E-PL1. It is the world's first waterproof housing for a Micro Four Thirds camera. The extreme light weight PT-EP01 (only approximately 1100g, just half as much as the PT-E06) is waterproof up to a water pressure equivalent to a depth of 40 meters. As a genuine advantage to the underwater photographer, you can make use of the Live View function on the one hand, but it is also possible to attach the electronic Viewfinder to the E-PL1 and use it underwater. Additionally the PT-EP01 has a small, but very important feature at the backside cover.
The back is semitransparent and has a further monitoring window just below the LCD window, which allows you to detect any water leakage before having serious material damage. The PT-EP01 has a fix lens port and supports the use of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm 1:4.0-5.6. Besides the possible flash connection the PT-EP01 offers the use of a macro lens adapter (PMLA-EP01) to attach the macro lens (PTMC-01) for special macro photography. The high quality underwater photography is additionally strengthened through the underwater macro and underwater wide shooting modes of the E-PL1.
