It's a solidly build product. A little heavier then I thought, but can be used to put a camera at angles that other tripods may not be able to with its swivel shaft design.

First really serious tripod I've owned. Very flexibel. Does however take some getting used to. Would also benefit from better markings on legs angle of spread. All in all verg good for nature and macro shooting

Advanced amateur. I've used it extensively in difficult situations for macro and closeup work. The tilting center column gives you a setup for nearly any shot.

The Explorer incorporates many innovative ideas in tripod design; individually locking legs that can be fixed at any angle from 0° to 90° and a column that will tilt from the vertical, right over beyond the horizontal and lock solidly at any angle. A swivel at the lock on the column lets you position the angled column over a leg for stability, or between the spread legs to shoot straight down onto the floor. As the name suggests the Explorer is aimed at photographers working in the field, it is quick to use, rugged in construction and innovative in design. Whatever the type of photography you do, the Explorer will help you to discover new ways of using a tripod, it will hold your camera steady in places you might never have thought of and let you capture pictures previously beyond your horizons.
The Explorer is available in a three-section aluminum tripod code G2220, finished in the traditional silver-grey Gitzo paint. The aluminum version has a maximum height of 162 cm (64 inches) and a weight of 2.20 kg (4.90 lbs); it has a maximum recommended load of 6 kg (13 lbs). The minimum height from ground level is a record for tripods in this category, only 5 cm (11.5 inches).
The Explorer has been designed to work best with the Gitzo G1275M and G1276M (quick release) "off centre" ball heads, which further add to the ease of handling of this tripod. With either of these heads fitted the folded length of the tripod is: 75 cm (29 inches) three sections aluminum. Brought across from the Classic Gitzo range are spiked feet with push on rubber knobs for the aluminum version and the handy weight hook on the bottom of the column.
Whether you are photographing flowers in your garden, wildlife in the middle of nowhere, your favourite football team winning the league or a conflict somewhere in the world, the Explorer should be there with you, making sure that you get the shot.
