I've been very pleased with the wide-angle zoom lens. I am using it on a Nikon 1 AW1, and it provides a significant wide-angle view over the regular lens.

The 1 Nikkor 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 VR zoom lens is small, very light weight, and optically superior. The photo below of the Hungarian National Parliament Building taken in Budapest at night is a perfect example of what this lens is capable of producing. This image was captured at a shutter speed of 1/60 of a second, an aperture of f/3.5, an ISO of 3200, a focal length of 6.7mm (the 35mm format equivalent of 18mm), Program Mode, Matrix Metering, Auto White Balance, and hand held on a river boat while sailing on the Danube River. This small lens, and the family of other small 1 Nikkor lenses, makes traveling a breeze.

It's pretty amazing how small this thing is as it covers the equivalent focal range of 18-35mm plus has VR. Usually VR seems a bit pointless in ultra wide angle lenses, but I've found it to be really convenient and allows me to use this lens in very low light, despite the aperture being pretty small. At 6.7mm with VR on I can handhold consistently 1/3s. If you do video then I'm sure you'll appreciate the VR even more than me.

The Nikon 1 6.7-13 is a great lens to add to your kit. Wonderful for landscape images. The equivalent field-of-field of 18-35 is very handy to extend the capability of your Nikon 1 camera. Image quality is very good with good sharpness and colour rendition. Distortion with this type of lens is always a bit of a challenge....but that goes for any wide angle zoom. The overall image quality can't compare with my 16-35 f/4 FX lens....but no one should expect a ($) CX sensor lens to compete effectively with a ($) FX lens. Overall it is a great addition to the Nikon 1 system and worth the price tag.

I like the portability of this lens and the other Nikon 1 lenses. It was not uncommon for me to leave a lens home to save weight and space. I don't have to worry about that now. The 6.7 - 13mm lens performs as advertised, sharp, good contrast, a very effective lens. It allows you to get the wide angle shots without going to fish-eye type distortions.

This lens has very high contrast and very high resolution. Truly amazing detail across the whole frame side to side and front to back. This lens is very, very, sharp and far exceeds the resolution of the sensors in the V1 and V2. With this lens it is time for Nikon to release a 16mp V3. When shot with the focal length of 6.7mm at F3.5 the lens will vignette very heavily. This can be used for artistic purposes to frame in a subject and is common for very wide lenses. If you want less vignetting then it is best to stop down to F4 where the corners will lighten up by 50% or so compared to F3.5. Because of the aspherical elements, high level of correction, resolution and cx sensor, this lens is most sharp wide open at F3.5 and F4. F4 is optimal as the corners will sharpen up a just a tad compared to F3.5 and the vignetting will be much less. But really the lens is perfectly sharp wide open at F3.5. Stopping down beyond F4 is of no value as far as sharpness is concerned as the Diffraction limit has already been reached at F3.5 to F4, but stopping down will benefit in dramatically reducing vignetting with only imperceptible lessening of sharpness. You can actually stop down to F5.6 and vignetting will be gone and the image will only be slightly less sharp. This lens is really amazing. Color rendition is excellent, spot on with intense saturation. Blues are deep and rich and avoid the cyan shift that can cause that yucky digital blue we all hate. Greens are natural and you will not see any of that fake neon green look that you can get with digital. Also the color rendition is nice and warm and rich and has none of the “cool look” that often makes digital look too digital. At 6.7mm the lens has some barrel distortion but it is actually not that bad when you consider that this is a 6.7mm lens! It should have a crazy fish eye distortion at this focal length but the barrel distortion is not really bad at all and can be corrected in Adobe Photoshop if desired using the Lens correction tool by simply punching in +4 or +5. Use lesser correction values of course as you shoot at higher zoom focal lengths. By 13mm zoom the lens is straight as an arrow with no distortion or vignetting at all. Comparing the vignetting and distortion of uncorrected raw files of the 6.7-13mm lens to the 10-30mm kit lens at 10mm zoom focal length at F4, clearly shows the 6.7-13mm lens is much superior in all categories. While the 10-30mm kit lens has big vignetting and big barrel distortion at 10mm zoom focal length, the 6.7-13mm only has slight vignetting and just a tiny touch of barrel distortion. Amazing actually. Conclusion: As far as vignetting and distortion the 6.7-13mm is way beyond the 10-30mm kit lens in its correction. The color saturation and contrast are deep and dramatic and color rendition is absolutely accurate and natural. Sharpness is incredible and at F4 the frame is hyper-focal sharp even to the tips of the corners. The Nikkor 6.7mm-13mm is a big step up into premium performance territory for any Nikon 1 user and is actually one of the best wide angle lenses I have ever used, even rivaling Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses in interms of contrast, sharpness and color rendition. Nikon did a very good thing with this lens. I highly recommend it.

This is a well-designed lens with a very useful focal-length range. It operates flawlessly and has excellent image quality, especially its ability to render spectacular blue skies. I wish only that it would have been an f/2.5 or 2.8 at widest focal length and perhaps f/3.5 or 4 at narrowest. But I didn't downgrade it for this, because it won't be my primary indoor lens, that's the 18.5 f/1.8.
