The camera is great. But extremely limited compared to other brands/models. For e.g it doesn't have the timelapse option as you have to download the app separately, and the app has been discontinued for no apparent reasons. Similar to this, a series of in-camera app are discontinued and you'd have to buy a separate intervalometer and all.

I bought this to replace my old Alpha58 and I am very pleased with the camera and what it can do.

Having used all manner of cameras from the humble Practica to digital Nikon; Lumix and many others I find the Alpha 7 ii has a sturdy, reliable feel and the menus system is one of the best I have used as many others are too complicated for fast photography. Its kit lens 28-70 3.5- 5.6 is one of the most surprising lenses for quality that I have seen top marks . There is just one niggle!! the noisy shutter as it goes off with quite a whack no doubt fixed in later versions. Overall a great buy and a great camera even taking in its thirst for power from its small battery. I understand this is not a problem in later models

I bought my camera on an amazon prime day deal for below £800 for the camera and kit lens. For a 10yo camera it is still very capable despite lacking some of the modern niceties such as a fully articulated rear display etc. It's video capabilities are also somewhat dated with no ability to shoot in 4k, however, for someone like me, who wants this pretty much for photos only it's 24.3Mp full frame sensor is more than capable. I would argue its practically unbeatable at this price. It doesn't have some of the frills of the latest cameras but for someone who's new to photography and wants a camera mostly for photos. I would say it's very user friendly, compact in size and the accessories you need to use it effectively such as spare batteries & SD cards are pretty cheap as far as camera accessories go. I am really happy with my purchase.

I bought this camera three weeks ago and so far I'm enjoying the experience it's a well built camera and feels solid in the hand at first I thought my large hands would cause me an issue when using but it's not been the case, the picture quality is excellent and with my settings set to raw this camera is really exceptional when talking about editing, one small bug bear for me is the lens shade which could have a better fit , it's fallen off several times. The camera is easy to use and although I read that it's sluggish on continuous shooting mode I have not found this to be the case. The controls are easy to access as are the menus all in all it's a winner

This was a replacement for an earlier Sony Alpha camera. It has improved specs and a wide range of quality lenses. The latest price made the purchase decision obvious. On the design, it has a small development from earlier models. More of the fittings and buttons are now plastic rather than metal giving a concern that these won't last. Sony spare parts have only been available for a restricted time. Sony have reduced the battery size to give a lighter camera. This means that the battery doesn't last long. The previous Sony Alphas lasted several days of use, and kept its charge for several weeks. This model lasts no more than three hours - probably less if you use the video function. You will need to buy a stock of spare batteries to last you through the day. The camera clearly has much functionality. The biggest downside is that the instruction manual doesn't explain the purpose of the various functions. It merely gives mechanistic steps to apply a function but you don't know what will happen if you follow them. The camera probably can deliver much more than you know about which is a great pity and wasted opportunity.

Read many reviews saying the camera is heavy, but when you marry it with quality, heavy lenses like the Sony 90mm Macro and the Sony 24-105mm G OSS zoom the weight, and therefore the balance, becomes a marriage made in heaven. I can't see me ever getting divorced from this camera, unless at some point I turn it in for a younger model of much the same.

Bought this as a second A7ii back up body and at a great black Friday price. This camera may be 10 years old now but it still holds it's own against the latest models. I am not interested in video so this ticks all the boxes for Photograhy.

I purchased this camera because I wanted a full frame camera that wasn't going to break the bank . Also Sony make an adapter for my Minolta A mount lenses but I can also purchase and use E mount if I choose to . A really portable mirror less image stabilized camera body . And more importantly it takes great pictures in any light .

I bought one of these secondhand in 2023. Having recently got back into photography when given a canon 10D by a friend and fast realising I needed (..okay wanted) more. Knowing the direction the technology was heading in it was a call between a newer DSLR or an older mirrorless body. Ultimately I got a full frame mirrorless camera in the form of a nearly ten year old A7ii. Regrets? None. Yes it's lacking some features due to its age but to an amateur, coming from a DSLR a further ten years older, it's spot on. Relatively inexpensive, Sony has had its mirrorless technology out for a while now so the lenses also aren't all that over the top (not all of them, anyways). With this I've already built up a small collection of decent lenses and the camera itself has been enough to encourage me to save a bit and consider part exing it for an A7riii. However if I could avoid parting with it, it would be a very strong secondary camera.

I've been using it for more than 2 years, the main problem is autofocus and uncomfortable software for taking photos with a computer( don't work with Lightroom).

It's a model that's been out for a long time, but it's still good enough for 2023 unless you're a photographer specializing in commercial or sports photography. In terms of value for money, I think there is no competition.

Best Deal in the world if I'm quite honest. Pricing wise, it's an investment that will pay back ten-fold. I've had the camera over a month and from what I've made in filming it's paid itself off a few times over.

I finally decided to jump on the mirrorless bandwagon and I am not disappointed at all. The a7II produces excellent quality photos and 1080 hd video. It has been a great camera for transitioning from DSLR. I highly recommend. ??

Mirrorless cameras are clearly the hot ticket for 2016, but traditional DSLRs are tried and true. Which way should you go? Here are the plus points of each to help you decide.
I jumped ship from Nikon to Sony
By LEON R.
After thirty five years as a pro, I let go of all my Nikon gear. Sold off D3x, D800 and all the lens that go with the Nikon system. Was there really anything wrong with Nikon , absolutely not. Just got tired of lugging around all that heavy gear. The camera was huge, the 24-70 was a monster and the 70-200 even bigger and heaver. Guess I just had enought. Sony A7ii , smaller and lighter. The in body stabilization allows me to shoot at lower speeds hand held. The only way to put it is this cam...

Fantastic Camera Comes of Age
By Piercer
The A7 II is the current pinnacle of mirror-less cameras. It has all the great features and quality of the A7. Additionally, the build quality is incredible and the 5-axis image stabilisation works amazingly well. Stick on the FE 55 1.8 and you can take the most amazingly sharp picture.
Fast autofocus and a powerful sensor ensure this Sony Alpha a7 II mirrorless digital camera exceeds your expectations. You get a powerful digital camera thatincorporates impressive five-axis image stabilization so that your photos turn out looking crisp and sharp even when the light starts to fall. This is the equivalent of using up to a 4.5-step faster shutter speed, letting you shoot forlonger. The ultra-powerful 24.3-megapixel low-noise Exmor sensor, which combineswith the BIONZ X digital image processor, produces outstanding results with low distortion and low artifacting.
This Sony Alpha a7 II mirrorless digital camera also excels when taking movies. The ultra-large sensor produces clear video at 1080p resolutions, and the tilting screen lets you review the shots that you're taking and get down low for unique angles. Thanks to this mirrorlesscamera's wide aperture, you can create movies with smooth background blur for sharp relief of your subject. You can also set a variety of profiles to create the right image setup, and embedded time codes make it easy to edit and review your movie. When you take this Sony Alpha a7 II mirrorless digital camera out, its meticulous craftsmanship ensures that it stands up to the stresses and strains of high-level use.
Sony Alpha a7II is an advanced mirrorless Sony full-frame digital camera with a 23.3-megapixel 35mm sensor and a host of features designed to appeal to professional photographers and photo enthusiasts. It is the world's first full-frame camera with optical five-axis image stabilization, and boasts improvements in both design and autofocus speed. The shutter release, grip and control layout has been updated, the lens mount is now all metal, and the camera is sealed against moisture and dust. The a7II also features a fast Hybrid AF system that boasts a 305 improvement in focusing speed, a 5fps burst rate, and continuous autofocus. It is rapidly becoming the camera of choice for photojournalists as well as aspiring videographers.
What you should know about this camera
24.3MP sensor: The a7II's full-frame 35mm-sized sensor captures 24.3-megapixel still images and full HD video. ISO range is 100-25,600, with 16-bit image processing and 14-bit RAW output to preserve fine image detail.
Fast Hybrid Autofocus: The camera relies on an advanced autofocus system with 117 phase-detection and 25 contrast-detection AF points covering a wide area of the frame. Focus is fast and accurate via an advanced algorithm, and can track fast-moving subjects through the frame. Frame rates are up to 5fps in continuous AF, and when you shoot in JPEG Fine L format burst rate is up to 77 frames.
5-Axis Image Stabilization: The a711 houses an all-new 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization system that compensates for five types of camera shakes, with a roughly 4.5-stop shutter speed gain. The IS system compensates for pitch and yaw adjustments (well-suited for longer focal lengths), horizontal and vertical shift (more common in macro photography) and roll, which is especially helpful when shooting video. Even better: You can preview the effect of the image stabilization by simply pressing the shutter release button halfway or magnifying the image.
Vivid video: This camera features high bit-rate XAVC S format HD video with 60, 30 and 24p recording options at 50 Mbps. Picture profiles can be adjusted, and now include S-Log2 gamma setting with a dynamic range of 1,300% of sRGB.
Big, sharp LCD, EVF: The a7II features one of the highest-resolution eye-level viewfinders on the market, a 2.36 million-dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF, and a high-resolution 3-inch 1, 228.8k-dot tilting LCD monitor that tilts up 107 degrees and down 41 degrees, ideal for reviewing videos and photos.
A really talented shoe: The Multi-Interface shoe can be used to house a flash, microphone, and other accessories.
A better body: The camera is constructed from a magnesium alloy top and front cover and chassis; the lens mount has been strengthened, and the entire body has been sealed against dust and moisture.
Carry-Over features
Other than the above changes, the a7 II offers pretty much the same stellar feature set as the a7, including:
1200-zone Evaluative Metering: You can choose from multi-segment, center-weighted or spot metering.
Area-Specific Noise Reduction: The image processing engine selectively divides the image into areas based on patterns (such as edges, textures and flat areas like blue skies), then applies the most appropriate noise reduction for each area to reduce noise.
Multi-frame noise reduction: The a7 II composites four shots to suppress noise and raise effective sensitivity in low light without a flash, while the D-range Optimizer helps coax details out of shadows and highlights of contrasty scenes in one shot.
16-bit image processing, 14-bit RAW output: 16-bit image processing and 14-bit RAW output help preserve maximum detail and produce images of the highest quality with rich tonal gradations. The 14-bit RAW (Sony ARW) format ensures optimal quality for later image adjustment (via Image Data Converter or other software).
In-camera RAW converter: Lets you adjust exposure, white balance, tonal curves, saturation, contrast, hue, sharpness, or apply D-Range Optimizer or vignetting compensation. "
