This adds some useful functionality to an infrared-converted D80 I’m using alongside a normal-spectrum D200 , which I bought with its grip. It was annoying to not have a vertical grip for both cameras. And yes, I’m aware how old they are. They serve me well.

I saved money and bought an "off-brand" battery grip for my D80. It drove me nuts ... I have several other MB-D80s for my other Nikon D90s. It worked OK, but just didn't feel the same ... I bought another used one. I am happy now.

I quite enjoyed this piece of electronic hardware until the little white plastic hook on the side of the battery hold broke off. It will now only accept one battery and what's the point in that?

The grip fits the Nikon D90 very well. I started using a speedlite and the camera was very unbalanced. Adding the battery grip did the trick. I have small hands so it's not the easiest to hold. If you're happy with the weight and size of the D90, don't buy the grip. Otherwise I'd recommend this grip.

No problems whatsoever. Miles beyond the off-brand I tried first which had to be sent back to Adorama since it wouldn't work. Solid build, seamless interface with the camera, adds very functional vertical shutter release. Adds a little size and weight to my D90 also, which helps balance out larger lenses like the 17-55 2.8 (I have a D300 also and use a vertical grip on that body, too). Very good product.

This product is easy to install and even has a place to store the original battery door so that you have it when you want to remove the MB-80, Multi-Power Pack. The unit provides status on each battery, so you can monitor the charge level of each battery separately. One problem is that it is used only one bolted to attach the unit and it has a tendency to slightly rotate. Also the attachment bolt needs to be re-secured every once in a while. Other than that it works like a champ. I bought this "used" and I can not tell that it has ever been used.

It remains attached to the D90 always, providing a comfortable heft to the camera in addition to the increased capacity. I am constantly on the go with the camera and having the increased power capacity is a boon.

This product is useful if your camera feels small in your hands and isn't comfortable. Once you use it once you'll never want to use your camera without it. I think a battery grip is a product every photo enthusiast should at least try on their DSLR.

My comment is about the shopping experience. I bought this used in store. It didn't have the battery tray in it. I had to go back and tell the sales person about it. He put one in and he took care of it.

If you own a Nikon D-80 or D-90 buy this! Besides offering a better grip and a vertical shutter-release button, it holds an extra battery that lets you keep going, and going, and ... well, you get the idea. I have one on each of my four cameras.

I bought this for additional battery power when on vacation and for use when shooting portraits. Very solid and easy to use.

I use this on my D80 as back up for my D2x. Last year I purchased a non Nikon brand and it fell apart after my first wedding. The Nikon model is sturdy and solid.

Get two Nikon Batteries! after market batteries work but the battery meter in the D90 only works with Nikon batteries?

This will bulk up your camera but the trade off is worth it! My only regret with this is that I did not buy it sooner. It makes shooting in portrait orientation 100% better and your photos will be composed better since you are reaching over the top of the camera all of the time. Probably my favorite accessory.

I bought this pack when I first got my D90 and it has never been off the body since !! Having larger hands , it adds the extra bulk I needed to make the camera "fit" me better. Plus the command dials and function buttons are there too !! And with the option of 1 or 2 enel3e's OR a AA battery adapter , you'll never be without a power option !!

I love the MB D80. The thing that attracted me was the balance & placement of the shutter release when shooting in portrait priority. This was of the utmost importance to me after having surgery on my right wrist. Shooting portrait the traditional way was nearly impossible after a few minutes. I have since added a D7000 to my D80 & have the grip for that as well, but I like the design on this grip better. With this one, everything goes in the grip, keeping the user from having to take off the grip to replace the Nikon battery that is in the camera body. I wish they would have kept this design. I love it!

Bought with my D80 several years ago. Works like a champ. My main reason for getting it was not to use two Nikon batteries, but to be able to use AA batteries if my main battery died and I could not get it charged (I was going to Australia for 2 months and had some questions about ability to recharge the battery daily, or for use at a wedding). I have used this feature several times, and it works great. I primarily use it with one Nikon EL-3 (?) battery. Unlike some others, I have had zero problems. I do LOVE the vertical shutter release, and I love how the camera fits in my hand in both vertical and horizontal operation with the pack on. Two things to be aware of: One, the battery compartment door is removed to use the grip, and there is no stowage area built into the grip, so it's easy to lose the door (I now store mine with my SD cards). Second, it makes it harder to fit the camera on a flash rotator, because it is so tall with the power pack.

Very disappointed. Puchased new. Used on D90 with only Nikon EN-EL3e batteries. I frequently experience power outages when using the grip. Without the grip the camera runs fine all day. No matter how tight I tighten the knob connecting the grip with the camera the power periodically cuts out for no reason. Yet the display and the battery meter in the menu in the camera say that there is plenty of power left. If I wiggle the grip or turn the camera off and on a few times the power eventually comes back on. Very frustrating. When it works it is a great accessory. But I've missed some nice shots because the power suddenly died. The grip is not reliable. Nikon needs to investigate this issue. Save yourself some money and buy an aftermarket grip instead.

Allows the ability to shoot all day without any worry of running out of power. Have them on a D80 and D90.

I have owned the MB-D80 for over a year now. It works great. You must tighten the screw all the way tight or the contacts do not work. This may be why some had problems. Once connected correctly it has not failed me. Nikon batteries in it last 4 times as long as aftermarket ones. Allows you to shoot movies with enough battery to finish the shoot.

I bought this grip for my D80 and never had any problems. Then I bought a D90 and the grip fit perfectly, and it is on the camera always. I've read that some photographers had problems with the grip on the D90, but I have not had any problems.

I was really impressed with Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack. I have one for my Nikon D200 that I ordered from Adorama. It was so easy to install and let me know about when a battery need to be charged. It lets me shoot portrait or landscape with out any problem. I use it for nature and family images.

i spent a lot of money on a piece of garbage. This thing kills batteries. I have gone through 4 Nikon batteries. I get about 40 pictures with both batteries in it. Then both batteries are dead. This is one of the worst products Nikon makes. I used it on my D90. DON't buy one!! ENFIELDE

Great addition to my D90
By CHESSIEMIKE
There were several reasons I bought the MB-D80. One was longer battery life. I do a fare amount of night work and the long exposures tended to drain the 1 battery. I also wanted the extra shutter release for when the camera is turned on its side. Another plus I saw was the extra weight to help with the overall balance when using a long lens. For me all these pluses came true. The extra command dials also come in handy. The nice surprise was the built in slot to hold the camera battery cover s...

MB-D80 battery pack
Extending the shooting capability in an ergonomic design that adds shooting stability. Able to run on either one or two EN-EL3e rechargeable batteries or six AA-size batteries, the pack also features an additional command dial and alternative buttons for shutter release and AE-Lock/AF-Lock that make vertical shooting more comfortable.
