I have used a cheap battery grip before and it worked great until it didn't work at all. I will pay extra for a Canon battery grip if/when I ever need another one.

I purchased an aftermarket battery grip that quit working the second time I used it so decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Canon brand. I gotta tell you, I am so happy with it! It works great and is built of high quality materials. It’s a little heavier the the cheap one, but it’s so worth the extra weight to have a high quality grip. I definitely recommend this grip.

I have purchased third party battery grips in the past, and they work just fine. After having the Canon battery grip for a few weeks I now know that there is no comparison. The Canon build quality is far more superior. The controls work with ease. If your looking for perfection, then I recommend spending the extra money for this product. You will not be disappointed. This battery grip is the perfect match for my Canon 7d markii. Camera and battery grip are made of the same metal alloy. You will love this addition to your camera gear.

This camera is bigger and heavier than my other Canon DSLR, and with large hands, the grip provides better control when shooting vertically, in addition to doubling battery power. At events where things happen quickly, I hand-carry the camera without a strap, so the grip gives me another point to hold onto, and helps balance the camera with a lower center of gravity. From an appearance standpoint, the 7D Mark II and grip combo looks like a close relative of Canon's flagship 1Dx.

Great Addition to EOS 7D Mark II For somone with large hands it gives a lot better fit and security for holding the camera. Added benifet of holding 2 batteries.

I may be old school, but I find myself calling this a "motor-drive" because I think of the clunky additions we used to put on just to wind film. This is entirely a different animal, of course. While it's called a battery grip, it's value really is as a vertical grip. The shutter, MFn, main dial, three function buttons, focus joystick, and focus area selection lever are all there. I don't understand the reviews that point out the joystick isn't perfectly matched to the location of the button on the body- when you rotate the camera to portrait orientation your thumb finds the joystick fast enough. The selection lever is a different type of button and I actually find it easier to use than the one on the main body because you don't need to grab it with a thumbnail. The best part about the battery grip is I don't have to move my baseball cap to make room for my right hand like I would if shooting in vertical without the grip. Lets think about what's really important; it's all about the team hat.

Acquired it in fall of 2014, and have used it extensively in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic where conditions are harsh.. It is sturdy and has worked flawlessly.

I purchased an after market battery grip for my 5DMKII several years after the original camera purchase. For my 7D MKII, I decided to buy the Canon battery grip at the time of camera purchase. Hands down, the Canon grip is superior in build quality and features. I feel better using Canon electrical accessories as I have ad numerous electrical issues with the 5DMKII and its after market grip.

Review of Canon Battery Grip BG-E16 Adorama Camera Apr. 11, 2015 I recently purchased the Canon BG-E16 Battery Grip from Adorama, after waiting for a release of a similar grip from Vello. I have a Vello BG-C4 grip on my Canon 7D & it has proven to be a great purchase particularly when you consider its much more reasonable price. The much higher cost of the Canon grip is why I only rated the new Canon BG-E16 at 4 stars, even though there had been a slight price reduction prior to my purchase. The form, fit & function of the grip is perfect, & the Canon grip has a slightly more finished feel & look to it, as it should for the difference in price. It too, also includes a holder for 6 AA batteries as a back-up for the 2 LP-E6N batteries. So far the life of these batteries has proven to be very good, even though some reports claim that the 7D MK-II uses a lot of juice. This grip uses a side loading door, rather than the rear loading feature of my earlier grip, both types work well even with just a single LP-E6N inserted. For me, the added weight of the grip & batteries is countered by the added battery life, & the convenience & utility of being able to hold the camera in a more comfortable manner while taking vertical photos. Just be forewarned that the grip for the earlier Canon 7D "is not" the same as the one needed for the Canon 7D MK-II as there is a slightly different tab on each. There may be other differences, but this seemingly unnecessary alteration also figured in to my reasoning for only a 4 star rating! As always, service & delivery from Adorama was excellent. Capt.
