Great cheap macro lens option

Great little add on for your lens for a macro option. I played around with it for a little bit and it actually worked. You just need the right amount of lighting and either a steady hand or tripod. I would like to see some more lens attachment options for it for other lens sizes to use it with.

Raynox DCR-250

Good piece of equipment. I'm new to macro, I have the Canon 100mm macro lens, which is a great lens and produces some great captures. But to get extreme magnification, the Raynox DCR-250 is an amazing add-on. It does what its suppose to do. For the cost, it should be a no-brainer.

Good product if you can’t afford or just beginning to experiment with macro photography. Very easy to attach onto lens.

Perfect for the budding macro enthusiast

The DCR-250 easily breathes new life into my old 55-200 DX lens. Taking a lens with a close focus of 43 inches and turning it into a lens that has a close focus of 6 inches! And that is without a loss of quality! I repeat....no loss of quality. None. Zip. Nada. Also there is no slow down nor loss of AF. No other snap on lens filter can even come close. Now there are some things one must understand about these things. 1. DoF is going to be razor thin. 2. AF works great! But you need to be in range. This lens will not obtain focus at a distance. 3. Magnification levels change depending on what lens you use. On a 50 f1.8D they are much less than the 55-200 at 200mm. 4. Place this on a macro lens for some truly amazing photos. The only quibble I have is there is not lens sock. You get a plastic box with a foam square in it. The lens is a 2pc design that screws together. And the lens caps, front and back, are push on caps. And the front can be a pain to get off quickly. So...the question is would I buy this again? And my answer is simple...how could I afford not to.

excellent quality for price!

The Raynox DCR-250 works great with micro nikkor AF-S 105mm! I shoot with a Nikon D-800 and did not notice much loss of image quality. This Raynox piece saves you much money compared to the Nikon teleconverters. I tried the Raynox on Nikkor AI-s 50mm 1.4, and there is slight vignetting (which is easily corrected during processing). I also tried it on the Nikkor AI-s 35mm 1.4 which resulted in extreme vignetting (due to wide angle lense). But anyways, If use the Raynox DCR-250 with a macro lense (as it's intended), you wont find a better bargain!

I'm having so much fun!

I'm so happy I bought this! I can put it on either of my cameras depending on my mood, and get great macro shots with it! I'm getting astonishing detail of very small flowers and insects! The only caveat is that you have to zoom in quite a bit to get the image to fill the frame, but I can live with that for the convenience.

Wow. Simple, cheap, but works well.

This is a fairly simple lens attachment or attachment lens. It's cheap, you have to be very close to your subject, and it has a very narrow depth of field, but for what it is and it's cheap price, it is fantastic. I used it with a cheap EF-s 55-250 mm lens and was amazed at the detail I was able to see. Expect some heavy vignetting with some lenses. If you want to experment with macro on the cheap, I'd suggest giving it a try!

Worth the price indeed!

Well worth the price. I would not recommend this for the nature macro photographer trying to get macros of moving animals or bugs, but for still macro it rocks. very happy with my results for what I shoot.

Well Worth The Cash

This is add on lens is perfect for bridge cam/superzoom cameras. It can really get you quite close. Keep in mind that AF on most bridge cam will give up at such small AF distance.

So far, so good.

I have attached this to a macro lens, a telephoto lens, and my kit lens. The telephoto allows for a higher focusing distance, but not much more. The best results come from my modified macro lens. The magnification is awesome, retaining crisp, clean details. The only issue some might have is the extremely shallow depth of field, but this is always an issue with macro photography, and there are ways to remedy the problem. Overall, I am totally happy with the product, and use it every day.

Wonderful budget product

After a long hunting for macrography finally I found this product which is quite satisfactory in terms of output.I used it on my 55-300mm nikkor lens for shooting domestic ants and got very good results as this are the first time shots for macro. As you used to it you will get better results thats I am sure.Initially while using your AF will hunt enormously at 300mm so better go with manual focus only at higher focal length otherwise you can use AF at lower FL like 100mm,135mm and so on.As per other reviews also it works great on telephoto lens compare to other kit lenses bcoz they can give you max till 55mm so better use any telephoto lens attached with raynox dcr-250 will give you awesome results.I ordered from Bangalore(India) and within 5 days it reach to me without any much hassle.Service was also good.Adorama keep posting me the tracking status. So,overall experience was very good with product and service.Cheers!!!

Just what I wanted

I bought this to get the inscriptions on rings without spending $500 on a macro lens. Instead I attach this no top of my 50mm f/1.8 and I get the results I want. Its amazing. The only con is the plastic cover that comes with it, there is no easy way to remove it from the lens. I have to unscrew it and then remove the plastic lid and screw it back on.

Great for the $$$

After seeing all the other good reviews and some sample images, I took the leap (which at this price point, isn't a huge leap at all) and bought the Raynox. It's great. Easy to use and really nice image. I'm using it for video and am quite happy with it. Recommend it. My only worry is breaking the plastic adapter.

Razor sharp lens

the RAYNOX DC250 is a 3 element/2 group compound lens with a razor sharp and very shallow depth-of-field best suite to telephoto lenses or zooms. Aperture changes have no effect on sharpness but the Raynox is plenty sharp. Focusing is achieved by moving the camera to-or-from the subject to maintain it with the lens' field of focus. I could not detect any chromatic aberrations (CA) with this lens. Using the RAYNOX DC250 with the Panasonic 45-200mm zoom the field of view at 45mm was 1.5 inches wide at a one foot distance; at 200mm the field of view was one-half inch wide at a six inch distance, and razor crisp. Shooting at high ISO/fast shutter speed or tripod is a must.

Amazing for the price!

You can not go wrong for the price. The quality of the output will be highly dependent on the quality of the glass you attach the conversion lens to, but the lens itself is very nice. You are probably going to want to use manual focus and the focus distance is very close so you might scare off some potential subjects. I have handheld this at 300mm, but it's not easy. You are much better off using a good steady tripod. Bottom line, for those not wanting to spend the big bucks on a dedicated macro, you can not go wrong with this purchase.

The Sweetest Super Macro Lens

I own a JVC-HD Everio and attempted to use the macro lens with my 35mm adaptor, didn't work or fit well yet when i use the macro lens on the original lens it's great it gives me even sharper detail when i zoom in for a focused close up- it did take a min for me to play with it and make it work but otherwise it's SWEET!

Good product needs a focusing rail

Light weight and very easy to use provided you have a focus rail. Users will need to use a tripod in order to set-up their shots. Very reasonable to purchase and easy to carry on a shoot.

Great value for the price

Great add on for the person ona budget who wants macro. It gets you CLOSE! Be sure to have plenty of time, because it takes some practice to get the focus where you want it, and a tripod is a must. You must leave it on the lens or remove it from the adapter to protect the rear element.

An inexpensive intro. to closeup work

I decided to purchase this product based on a recent article on its use in the December 2008 issue in Popular photography magazine. I was impressed by the closeup of a fly's eye that was illustrated in the magazine. After testing on various objects with my NIKON D70 I suggest using manual focus for best results. A tripod is also recommended to steady yourself.

Opens up a new world!

I bought this from here not too long ago. I got it to compliment my Canon Powershot S5IS and I honestly couldn't be happier. The glass used is high quality and that results in a very sharp picture. Takes a little practice using, as the DOF is razor thin at full zoom but once you get that down you can take some amazing closeup shots that result in some unbelievable details. Worth every penny!

It does what it should do

I use this for macrophotography. I use it combined with my Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens. It is easy to clip on and take off. It would have been better to come with a pouch instead of the plastic box. That way I could easily carry it when not in use.

Great lens

I use it on my Panasonic DMC-FZ50 with excellent results. Beats the cheaper screw-on lenses hands down. I thought the clip-on adapter looks a bit flimsy, but it works OK. Can't use any standard filters with the adapter in place. I use the Raynox DCR-250 with the FZ50's 10x Leica lens at full magnification for awsome close-up shots.

SUPER MACRO LENS. BUY IT.

I love this lens! It fits on both my Konica Minolta Z3 and my Canon S3 IS. I've gotten fantastic macro shots with it. When you shoot with it, do NOT use the macro mode on the camera. Use the regular mode. With it, you can zoom in to 2.5 times your zoom (that brings it to 30x maginificatio -- AWESOME). Also, you don't use the focus button on the camera. YOu position YOURSELF to get the object you are shooting into focus. You move the camera just ever so slightly in order to focus it. Macrophotography is so tiny that your focus range is equally tiny. Imagine that you are the size of an insect, and the delicate range of distance has to be made by YOU in your current cumbersome size. Hold your breath, focus, and shoot. I've gotten absolutely incredible close ups with this lens. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in macrophotography. It's awesome!

I would purchase this product again

I'm extremely happy with the resolution this lens provides while taking photos with my Fuji camera. It snaps in place inside the 52mm lens and is very easy to remove. The conversion lens is well worth the small investment.
