Some consideration needed if using with Nikon D850.Can not use live view and trigger a flash

The best investment I have made for my real estate photography business. It makes making on the fly adjustments a breeze and the live view feature is a life saver. It cut down my in the field time by half. At true life saver

Works great. Changed the way I tether. Long tether cords were constantly failing. Love using the short cord and the ability to use live view when placing the camera in locations when the camera is either up to high or against the wall. The ability to preview on a larger screen and show clients immediately is also quite helpful.

I love this product. I shoot NCAA Sports and being able to upload images mid game on the spot is awesome. I would give it 5 stars if it worked better with android devices.

While I have yet to get it to work with my android phone, it is working, working well, with my kindle and laptop. I aimed a 500mm lens at a place where I put birdseed and began to watch TV. When the skiddish cardinal came along, I saw it on my kindle and snapped several pictures. I plan to use this device a lot for wildlife. I do wish it had a hotshoe - I'll glue one one rather than have it dangle from my belt. I'd include a photo, but there seems to be a problem uploading to this...

This device is amazing! I make a lot of self portraits. Don't know where I would be without it.

Great little gadget. Time lapse option is nice. I also don't have to get on the ground for lie shots anymore

For years I have been tethering to my laptops with a USB cable and it works great in studio but its cumbersome when you take it out in the field to shoot portraits. I tried Eye-fi and it worked but very limited in distance and too slow with transferring files to my iPad and Samsung tablet. At the recommendation of Mike Kelley, I gave the CamRanger a try and I will never go back! I have all the wireless benefits of the Eye-fi with the control and most of the speed of USB tethering. The CamRanger works great with the iPad, Samsung tablet and my Droid phone; it just works! There are a number of outstanding features for photographers of all disciplines and to go into each of them would require 45 min video, so I will just say, get one and you won’t be disappointed.

Along with my iPad, this does almost what I was wanting. The only thing that is lacking is seeing the correct exposure in live view. When making exposure adjustments the image does not change at all, but all of this has more to do with my Nikon D600 not having the capability in Live View. There are some cameras that show the effects of exposure on the LCD screen so Camranger will display it. The main reason I am giving it 4 stars is I always expose by observing the histogram and the Camranger does not do a good job of showing that.

I've been borrowing my friends cam ranger for some time. I decided it was finally time to get my own. I'm currently doing a lot of self portraits. This device makes it so... Easy. I use it for other photographs too. I feel like it allows me to see and create my images in a better way. It's hard to think of photographing any other way now.

I bought a Canon 7D Mark II packaged with the CamRanger. I have another camera with integrated wifi and the capability is incredibly useful when traveling. While I was initially disappointed that Canon didn't include wifi with the 7D Mark II, I'm not anymore. The CamRanger is an outstanding product that sets up very easily. The iPhone/iPad app is powerful and also easy to use. The additional file sharing app is also great for sharing pictures quickly with others.

I'm a real estate photographer and like the convenience of remotely triggering my flashes and adjusting camera controls. With use of my ipad I can preview shots full screen and make any adjustments needed from across the room. Full RAW images download in about 3 seconds and can be saved to the device, camera memory or both. I also use it as an intervalometer for doing time lapse projects and it works flawlessly. The only thing I haven't figured out is how to clear a shooting session without re-booting my ipad. Other than that, I've been very happy with the CamRanger.

The idea is great and it's easy to setup. The integration with Lightroom is not working well for me. The program is very slow at transferring the images. Not an option for tethering, which was the main reason I tried it. A cable is still the best option for me.

In my opinion this is just an overexpensive piece of toy. I bought this thing in august and I must say if it works it's nice [it happened only one time]. It is inpossible to use this toy instand. You have to load the battery a day before for use because it takes hours to load. A full battery without use is empty in a few days time. I missed all my oppertunities to use it because of a dead expensive toy. I think even 50 years ago this should have been a technical shame. How come such an invalid instrument costs 250 euro's in Europe. Even 30 euro's should have been too much!

I bought this about a year ago and I just want to say it does what it is supposed to do but...There are issues that need to be addressed for many users. Be aware that the Kindle Fire Android app only works on certain Kindles. The response from when you activate the shutter remotely to the snap of the shutter is very slow. So it isn't practical for any type of action shots. I am a photography instructor and there are some cameras that it does not function well with. One of my students had a canon T3i and it would only work sporadically. Have used it on several different bodies from Rebels to the 1DS Mark III and have sporadic response from several different cameras. Some models work normally and some have issues. The only practical applications I see for this with the slow shutter response is for studio portraits or macro where the 1 to as much 2 second shutter delay isn't a predominant issue. The delay isn't from the wireless connection but rather from the application to the transmitter. Does not matter whether the signal is sent from 20 feet or 2 inches from the Ranger unit the delay is the same. Also my students and I have experienced a lot of software crashes using this on several different tablets which means that you have to do a re-boot to get the app to run again.

I was tired of my current hardwired tethering setup of cables and laptop, so, i tried this gadget. Installation was surprisingly easy (using my iPAD) and a CANON MK 5D MkIII). I have used it to take pictures of the moon through my telescope (much easier to focus and compose!), help me photograph hummingbirds (great signal range), and take macro shots (focus is much better when you're comfortable). I am really impressed with the software app that supports this device. All of the "normal" camera controls are displayed on your device (including the histogram), you can select the focus area, and set an intervalometer to create a timelapse. I would have given it 5 stars if there were more directions on using the app. Plus, there is a switch on one side that none of the included documentation describes what it does (and why is it there?),

If anyone can help, I would like to know why after 15 shots using the Camranger. The Nikon D700 battery dies. The timeframe is within 10-15 Minutes. Then the battery dies. I've tried different batteries, I used the camera without camranger on Live view and camera works fine. Nikon Support won't help they don't trouble shoot 3rd party devices. CamRanger blames Nikon, they won't help. Anyone else with this issue please help.

I have a very specific photographic use for this unit. I have not fully had a chance to use it in the field for its intended purpose because of this extra long winter. Setting up and testing in the house, I found the set up relatively easy, however the manual is very short and I think poorly printed(download fuller manual off the web). To establish the wifi connection may take a few tries but it does connect (noted as a "problem" in the user guide). Once the connection is made with the tablet (I'm using a Samsung Galaxy s4 8") the functions worked fine and were easy to use. The great feature is to be able to make the camera auto focus anywhere in the view by touching the desired focus point on the tablet screen. All other expected camera controls work by touch screen functions. Beyond my specific use, I can see that I may be using it often in hard to bend down to locations (I'm old enough this matters now). One problem, though not CamRanger's, is it is very difficult to see the tablet screen in bright sun. Fully upping the screen brightness may help, but I nave not tried this yet.

Using the Cam Ranger with an iPad makes focusing, increasing sharpness, a breeze. There is a slight learning curve, but nothing that should keep anyone away. The hardest thing was getting the lid off to insert the battery. With the layout, functions are easy to find and access. Highly recommended.

This will come in handy at the bird feeder or a flower when a human presence spooks away the subject. I set up my camera then go in the house or somewhere out of sight and watch on my iPad. If I need to make an adjustment I can and when I see the photo I want I snap the shutter

I use the equipment with Canon 5D Mark II and 1 DX. It works fine in Sony Experia Ultra (Android JB 4.3). But I find more function bottons works when using iPad such as: able to change the Camera mode (Manual, At, Tv), DOF button, etc. I believe, Camranger software for Android will be made the same with the one for iPad soon. In general, this is a good equipment. With this experience I am interested in buying their Motorized Tripod Head. Please if there is bundle offer for this Motorized Tripod Head.

In the studio I will still be tethered to the big screen even though I do not like the cord. But in the field & on location the CamRanger is the best. It can be a little slow on the bigger files, I wish they had a good mounting bracket built in, and a car charger would be great. That said on location this has been the best for checking and showing the images and all my clients just love to see what they are getting. Lots of features I have not used yet but I think this is a great product and worth the cost.

I really like the flexibility the CamRanger offers. You can setup your camera outside and monitor it in the comfort of being inside waiting for that great shot. I do have occasional issues changing the settings remotely but if you just snap a picture with the latest settings it will allow to make adjustments again. This doesn't happen too often but when it does its an easy work around until they fix the software.

I specialize in wildlife photography. The CamRanger is especially useful when shooting birds on the nest and rearing chicks. The camera can be placed close to the nesting area when the adults are absent. Using a lens wide enough to cover the nesting location I can retreat to a distance so that the adults will not attack me or otherwise be inhibited when they return. I can remain reasonably distant, under cover if the weather is bad, control most of the camera settings and focus point, and monitor the scene via my iPad. You can magnify the image on the iPad to more closely and set the focus if desired. Prior to the CamRanger I used various types of remote releases. I had to stay in visual contact with the scene and trigger the shutter based on my view which was different from the lens view. There was no changing of shutter speeds, aperture or ISO as the light changed. The CamRanger is also useful when shooting macro at ground level. Rather than getting down on the ground you can setup the camera and use the iPad to frame and focus. The mirror is up and you can fire the shutter without touching the camera so no worry about shake. I wouldn't try to up load raw images from the camera to the iPad because of the file size. Thumbnails of images taken are available on the iPad should you wish to delete images from the camera card. I'd like a more robust connection as the signal strength falls off rapidly as the distance between the camera and iPad increases. I've found that more than fifty feet away from the transmiter is excessive in the woods. The signal falloff means a delay in the transfer of information between the camera and receiver. Also, the image on the iPad becomes "jerky." I can live with that, I just don't like it. Having to use the "live view" setting on the camera rapidly drains the batteries on the cameras which is a pain. I got along without the CamRanger for years and I still could. I wouldn't want to though. I'm still finding more situations in which the CamRanger is the answer to the problem.

I got he camranger to replace DSLR remote app due to having to use a laptop as a server. WOW This thing just works ! I can control most camera functions from my iPad or ipod Touch. I haven't tried the focus stacking control as yet but it does seem to readily change focus incrementally. It does however seem to be lacking a bulb ramping feature for seamless time lapse shooting .You can change focus points with a touch of the screen, and zoom in with ipad gestures. All the expected features are here, and an excellent user manual can be had in PDF. All things considered, this is a great peice of hardware and exactly what I've been looking for.

This is a great product. I never liked to hardwire tether, just felt too restrictive. This is a great solution for controlling and shooting your camera. I use it with my Nikon D800e's during weddings. Really works well during the formals to view larger image to make sure your lighting is setup well and everyone looks good. Has sped up my shooting a lot. I also plan to use it to remotely fire my rear camera during the ceremony. I can fully control the camera, and see through live view what it sees. I can also turn on and off video capture if I want.

I am just getting the "hang" of the features, but it seems to work well with my D90. I use it on PC mode right now. I havent tried the CAM mode yet. Had a little difficulty with the connection at first, but on the second try, it worked great. I'll be using it for bird and insect photography, and macro work. It's a good product. I'm using my Iphone5 now but I'm looking forward to the android version so I can use my 10 Inch Toshiba THrive.

The CamRanger was very easy to setup -- the instructions provided were clear -- got my iPad connected to the CamRanger WiFi in about 5 minutes. Once I got CamRange app set up, I read the user guide and played around with the CamRanger app to get familiar with how it works. After a couple of hours, I was ready for the "real thing". I set up my camera (Nikon D600) on a tripod in the kitchen and pointed it at our bird feeder outside the window. Then I retired to the living room (which is not...

Superb performance and features
By CHRISTOPHER B.
I have been wanting a solution to transmit photos to my iPad as I shoot for immediate review and by myself and my clients. I just recently learned about the CamRanger and quickly decided to try it out after observing lack-luster performance from the Eye-Fi. The Eye-Fi took longer to set up and the connection was quite weak -- using it with CF card adpater in a 1DX and already removed the outer shell of the adapter with little gain in signal strength. The Eye-Fi solution only allows for rem...

CamRanger Newest Firmware Update
CamRanger LLC is pleased to announce a firmware update for the award winning CamRanger. The newest update allows the photographer or videographer to simultaneously broadcast images or live feed to multiple iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Mac or Windows computers. The CamRanger allows advanced wireless camera control of over three dozen Canon DSLR and Nikon DSLR cameras and wireless tethering to an iPad, iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows computer, including the option of wireless shooting into Lightroom.
The firmware update for the CamRanger allows the photographer to take photos from either the camera or from an iPad (or iPhone, Android device, Mac or Windows computer) and have clients, directors, colleagues, or students view the images or live feed from their own device using the "CamRanger Share" application which is specific for each platform. If the photographer or videographer has watermarks turned on then the person using the CamRanger Share app will see watermarks as well on their own device.
In addition to adding the ability to share images the firmware update allows the photographer to bridge into an existing WiFi network. The CamRanger creates its own WiFi network, but if the photographer wants to bridge into a network to extend the WiFi range, or post images to the Internet or FTP server immediately, then this feature gives the photographer this option.
