This is a great budget priced lens with an amazing angle of view, 50mm is close to the way the human eye views and people see things in life. It's a great lens for taking day to day snaps or movie work and other types of photography. This could be used for street photography, portraits and movie work.

Works perfect for my Sony A7ii photography and my Sony a6700 Hybrid camera for my video needs. The smooth autofocus supplements the already awesome autofocus system of the Sony A6700 and top that off the lens has it's own Optical Steady Shot (OSS) makes it even more flawless in my opinion. I couldn't ask for more with this lens ever.

Bought this last month and I'm super satisfied with its quality and performance. Despite being a prime lens, the details can still be seen! love how it looks so good on portrait shots especially with cats

One month with this and it's proven to be a good first lens. Responsive autofocus, good for my style of non-intrusive street photography and documenting events. Photos are sharp 90% of the time. I however find myself shooting lots of group photos in tight spaces that it makes me feel the need to get a wider lens, like a 35mm or 24mm.

This lens is small, light & fast (f1.8) and with a Sony a64000 focuses quickly. Price is average for a prime lens at this level, quality seems good so far...

This is a nice, sharp, stabilized, 50mm prime for apsc Sony cameras at a moderate price. It is a go-to lens for Sony a6000 series shooters. It is sharper than the kit lens, focuses fast. Stabilization is good and close-up focus distance is decent, considering it is not a macro lens. I use it mostly for portraits and close-up photography. It would be better if it was a f1.4 rather than 1.8. I would rate this lens higher but it is replacing an identical one that failed. That being said, I liked it enough to buy it again.

Was able to easily take amazing portraits and beautiful bokeh effects. Great colours too! Only thing is its smaller field of view means u need some space to maneuver if you want to take a wider view. Great price too!

It?s great like any other 50mm 1.8 but I?m not sure about this though, my particular lens has a lot of purple fringes not sure if it was manufacturing issues. If the representative could get in touch with me would be great! Otherwise it?s perfect!

Only bought this Lens because Sony led me to believe I'd get up to £100 Cashback on the purchases of my first 3 Lenses. Only to find out when I claimed it they found a way to get out of paying it. Won't buy another Sony lense ever again.

I had this for a few weeks now and, I'm so happy to have bought it! It's really good at making a shot look like it comes from a professional, even though I'm just starting tonlearn the alpha camera and the lens. The really low F means that the blur behind your subject will be creamy and smooth, your subject will always be in good light and the focus... I cannot fault the focus! Fast, silent and very precise. It separates even detail like individual hairs from the blury background, brings upfront a lot of details and textures. It never took better pictures than with this lens. Untill now, I've had the best camera phones and having more cameras on a phone and being able to have such a wide range of abilities though, makes you realise how versatile the phone is in comparison to a camera and a good lens. It puts in perspective the advantages and disadvantages. This is a good seagway to my cons about the lens, of which I only have 1. Because it is a fixed lens, it only does 50mm, it's quite cropped. This means the between the camera and what you're shooting, there needs to be a lot of room. This makes the lens hard to use indoors, unless you're in a huge room. Having said that, if you do have the room to frame your subject, you will be hard-pressed to find a better lens for the money. It's dead easy to use and the materials look and feel good!

My new favourite prime. Sony 50mm f1.8 oss I like to film footage of different angles, product, backdrops and lighting to try and explore new ideas and with the lens it adds a whole new dimension. It is affordable and solid in the hand. Build quality is good and the bokeh is great for its price. I recommend this lens to anyone as your getting a great prime that makes your portraits pop and gives your videos more definition and great dynamic range considering this is built for Sony’s range of crop sensor cameras.

This lens is honestly one of my favourites for APSC cameras, very nice focal length for portraits and gives a gorgeous bokeh even stopped down to F2.8. Also great low light performance thanks to its fast aperture.

Great lens
By eniarrol
I've tried it in a classroom with no windows and did not need a flash. I bumped the ISO to 800 and it worked perfectly. I have to get used to the constant moving of the image in the view finder when focussing but the images just come out great. Trust the camera (NEX7) it works well with this lens. I also took outdoors pictures. They came out as sharp I expected this lens to be at f16. I also used the shallow depth of field in a few portraits and the background was blured beautifully. The port...

A good lens for the excellent NEX-7
By ReporterPorter
A lens required in the camera bag to complement the NEX-7. Sharpness is quite good in the center and the borders from f/3.5 and up are decent. With the NEX-7, the lens brings out an impressive amount of detail from f/4 to f/6.3. The bokeh is superb. CA is minimal even on the 24 megapixel sensor of the NEX-7. It would be nice to have 1.4 lens at this price, but in the end the compact size of the this lens makes the 1.8 a nice compromise. Now if Sony would add a 35mm f/1.8 lens to the e-mount l...

A wide aperture and powerful autofocus ensure great results from this Sony 50mm f/1.8 camera lens. The f/1.8 aperture ensures this mirrorless camera lens can gather plenty of light when it's fully open, and it also produces beautiful creamy bokeh thanks to the circular aperture blades. When you stop it down, depth of field is increased to create a sharp photo, yet defocused areas still remain pleasantly blurred.
When you want to get up close and personal, this Sony 50mm f/1.8 camera lens does the job. It's specifically designed for use with a crop sensor E-mount camera, so it's the 35mm equivalent of a 75mm lens, providing a moderate amount of magnification so that you can take photos of people or buildings with ease. It also has an internal stepping motor that's super-quiet, letting you use this Sony prime lens to create movies without hearing the grind of the autofocus on the audio track.
Because it doesn'thave a zoom mechanism, this lens is extremely lightweight, weighing just 7.25 ounces, ensuring it's easy to port around with your mirrorless digital camera. It has nine lens elements comprising glass extra-low dispersion glass and aspherical elements to minimize the effects of ghosting, flare or chromatic aberrations on your photos when you use this Sony 50mm f/1.8 camera lens.
Get a quality lens with fixed 50mm mid-range telephoto focal length and f/1.8 aperture.
Take advantage of the built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system which provides around a 4-stop shutter speed advantage, making it significantly easier to achieve crisp, blur-free images and video. Get beautiful, softly blurred backgrounds thanks to the circular aperture of the large maximum aperture of this lens.
A linear motor used for focus drive contributes to low-noise focus operation, while a stepping motor built into the lens, technology inherited from Sony's professional camcorders, results in smooth, quiet aperture actuation ideal for recording movies. An elegant aluminum alloy exterior blends beautifully with the graceful design of an E-mount.
Use direct Manual Focus (DMF) to go directly to manual focusing after autofocus lock-on without having to switch modes to facilitate focus adjustments on the fly it's perfect for portraits where depth of field may be extremely shallow.
