Very nice compact lens. It is super sharp and easy to use. The lens is not bulky at all. I plan to use it to photograph jewelry and some distance shots.

This lens is a true creativity facilitator! Since I got it, I have been having so much fun playing. This lens provides super crisp and sharp detail. It's like walking around with a magnifying glass. I've been enjoying using it for macro purposes. It is also working great as a telephoto lens for birds and pets in the yard. I tried a few portraits with it and wow, also great! The bokeh on this is really nice as I've been playing around with photos of ice this winter. I mostly use this in manual focus mode and am pleased with the ability to finely dial in where I want my focus on tiny subjects. This lens is letting me do what I have always tried to do with my other lenses. It's my most used and favorite!

This is a fine-quality lens, sharp, clear, contrasty, It's very sharp and is a real pleasure to use. Autofocusing may hunt a bit more than you'd like, but the manual focusing ring is always available to use, which is useful on a macro lens, to touch up the focusing after it has autofocused, Highly recommended.

Weather coating is great as I've stated it in the tide pools of the Pacific Northwest. Focusing can be difficult, but thats macro. Tack sharp.

This is a great lens, although I haven't quite figured out it's best use. The thing I like best is that you can take a decent macro shot without having to be right on top of the subject. The lens is reasonably light and takes sharp images.

I sometime use this lens on k-70 to take landscape and portrait photos. This lens comes up with sharp images with a nice bokeh, and its WR feature should help your outdoor shooting.

Let's start out that I love this lens so much I have two of them (one looks pretty frightening now). What an incredible lens. It has the classic 49mm filter hood, is super light, and very sharp. I use it frequently in serious tropical down pours and have traveled many times with it around the world. Rare is the time it is not in my bag. What is not to like? The rim is pretty thin and I managed to break it on mine after a fall. It has a lens hood (shade), but I rarely need it. Oh, some may not like that as you focus the lens the front element gets closer to the subject (no internal focus mechanism).

Very sharp lens produces great results on my K5iis. Well made and focuses accurately and fast. Nice that a hood is included. I also have a Minolta 100mm macro that I use on a Sony A65 (A-mount camera), and I find that the Pentax lens is better.

I am new to true Macro so there is a learning curve for me. The quality I have already experienced with this lens is fantastic!! Fast focus, great detail, and a well built lens.

The only complaint is how loud the focusing motor is. But other than that, its a really crisp lens with excellent producing image quality.

This is my first dedicated Macro lens. I haven't taken to many pics as of yet due to my shaky hands. When I stopped shaking I got some real nice pics of coins. This is my main purpose for buying the lens. I have a table top tripod on the way as well as a remote control. These two items will allow me to shoot hands free. I can't wait to photograph my collection of coins.

It's my first time testing this lens, but takes a very sharp photos. I really enjoy taking pictures with this lens, it feels robust and is very useful for macro photography (obviously) and I use it too for portrait with great level of details. In general this lens is fantastic.

I have used this lens for macro shots of insects and flowers (as well as other things of course), for portraits, and as a general walk-about lens. The clarity, sharpness, and bokeh are all quite impressive. It is probably the sharpest lens I have (43mm limited and pentax 200mm f2.8 are close) and it certainly has the nicest bokeh. In the woods, near the water, at the beach--the weather sealing is nice also! This really is a Pentax limited without the official designation--the fit and finish and materials are that strong. At its current price, it has to be the single best bargain for Pentax bodies, hands down. Amazing bang for the buck. Buy one. You won't regret it.

Only had this about a week-build quality is great-almost a Ltd. Even if it didn't have Macro a 100 2.8 is worth the price alone. I own (4) Ltd's-15.21,40, and 70-and this is equal. Will always be in the bag. Bonus is it is FF if you are in the market for a K1

So, back in the days of film my "bread and butter" camera/lens was a Pentax LX and the f/4 100 macro. I have literally taken tens-of-thousands of slides with that combo. Well, welcome to the digital age. I fought it, but I'm now here. This lens, like my f/4 100mm, will be my flower lens. Functionally, it's longer than the f/4 (150mm equivalent), but I like the extra working distance. This makes it easier if I want to drop in a little flash fill and not need to unmount the flash. So far I've used it on one trip chasing El Nino flowers in the desert. I must admit that I'm very pleased. Now I just need to upgrade the camera and I will be all set.

Takes sharp photos. Also is lightweight and weather resistant. Couldn't ask for a better lens.

This lens makes a terrific addition to my Pentax collection. The sharpness of the macro images is wonderful so I anticipate using it to create outstanding abstract compositions. And, the quality of the construction makes it an excellent investment at a reasonable price.

I can really get closeup to the subject. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it but so far I have enjoyed it. The best part though was the quickness of delivery! Thank you!

I consider myself an advance amateur photographer. I mostly photograph landscapes, buildings, church events and some macro of flowers. I had a Canon 100L IS macro lens with a Canon 5D, which I enjoyed very much for flowers & landscapes, and thought a quality 100mm micro lens would work well with the Pentax crop camera. For landscape I use a tripod, but not when photographing flowers and with the Canon setup there wasn't problem. But with a crop camera 100mm lens seem too much, I had difficulty holding it steady. The Pentax K5 has built in IS/OS in the body, but the longer focal length just didn't give me a enough keepers. For those who always use a tripod with a micro lens this would be excellent, especially if photographing bugs or really small things. It just wasn't for me and I sent it back. I will be looking for something in the 60mm macro range.

This is my favorite lens. It is so sharp, lightweight, and fast that I probably overuse it in place of more versitile zoom lenses. The weather resistance and long hood make this very useable in foul weather. My only criticism is that often the focus decides to go to infinity and back. So I take advantage of the clutched manual focus to "prefocus" to reduce this tendency.

This is suberb macro lens. It has excellent IQ and bokeh. It's small and light. It's WR and rugged. The only flaw I have found is that there's no focus limiter, which makes focusing slow if the motor has to drive from one end to other. But for macro shoots I use manual focus, so for the intented use it's ok.

The biggest challenge photographers face when shooting nature close-ups is how to get a sharp image.
Chances are if you bought your first interchangeable-lens camera, a DSLR or MILC, you got a mid-range zoom "kit" lens. For a while things were good, but then you became frustrated with the lens's limits.
Excellent macro and general lens
By Jeff
I use mainly for Macro, but it's equally good for general use. Superb quality pix: contrast, sharpness, bokeh, clarity. Solid. Lenses like these are why I chose the Pentax system: high quality at value prices.
Wonderful Macro
By David H.
Great lens. Still learning all the strengths, but even better than my old manual focus macro. Like the quick shift auto/manual focus. Focus speed improved by prefocusing to distance range... but for macro usually manual anyway. Sharp lens, great bokah... very pleased with results.

Robust Construction for Any Environment
Made with a durable aluminum housing, this lens is not just sturdy but also weather-resistant. The 6 weather seals (earning its WR designation) ensure that whether you're shooting amidst the drizzle or in a dusty terrain, the lens remains protected. Combine this with the PENTAX weather-resistant DSLR bodies, and you have a camera setup ready to tackle almost any condition.
Pentax Super Protect Multi-layer Coating: Clarity and Protection
This lens is equipped with the Pentax Super Protect multi-layer coating, ensuring minimized surface reflection and decreased ultraviolet rays for impeccably clear and high-contrast images. Beyond clarity, the coating on the front lens element provides a robust shield against common disturbances such as dust, water, grease, and fingerprints. Coupled with an optical design tailored to negate flare and ghosting, your photos are assured of exceptional quality.
Quick Shift Focusing: Switch with Ease
The unique "Quick Shift" focusing system in this lens makes toggling between manual and AF modes a breeze. With just a quick twist of the focus ring, the PENTAX Quick-Shift focus system lets you switch instantly, giving photographers the flexibility they need in dynamic shooting scenarios.
Macro Capabilities and Depth Control
This lens is a top choice for close-up enthusiasts, offering life-size 1:1 image magnification. It's suitable for a myriad of applications, including nature, technical, and product photography. Beyond macro, its depth of field control makes it equally adept for portrait shots.
Full Frame Design with Bokeh Brilliance & Quick Aperture Control
Equipped with 8 rounded diaphragm blades, this lens delivers a soft and silky bokeh effect, particularly at wider apertures. As a member of the D FA series, it's designed for "full frame" compatibility with both PENTAX film and digital SLR cameras, but with an emphasis on digital imaging optimization. Additionally, its body-controlled aperture bolsters weather-resistance and offers swift access to full aperture control, ideal for on-the-move photographers.
