Used the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app to tame a boominess I was getting because of my speaker placement (above some kitchen cabinets and close to both a wall and ceiling with no other option for placement). This feature was the primary reason I got this receiver, and I was not disappointed. I cannot tell the refurb unit from new. It looks great, and functions 100%. I am using the built in Tidal support which works very well.

It would have been nice to get an owners manual, having difficulties navigating through set up and installation always having to go online. Can not get HEOS connected, or to the online app? Also can I get on screen programming to work properly.

Overall, this is a nice A/V receiver that does what is advertised. It has plenty of HDMI inputs for my use case (mostly gaming). There are minor drawbacks, which are mostly as compared to what I was used to with prior receivers I have owned (Sony, Onkyo, Yamaha). 1) I like to use the "second zone" for speakers in my kitchen, which is right next to the main room. When doing so, there the second zone is delayed by maybe 0.5s which creates an unwanted echo effect. 2) There is a composite input, but it is not passed along or converted to the HDMI output, so I consider it useless. 3) Once the sound profile is setup, you cannot control minor changes to the EQ. For example, if a movie suddenly gets too heavy on the bass, my previous amp had quick options bass+- and treble+-. This does not I have also some problems with switching to different 4K/60+ video sources for gaming, but I am not able to confirm if that is more a problem with the Samsung TV or the receiver.

This is my first Denon AVR. It does not disappoint. Pretty easy to set up. Plenty of ways to customize the sound you are looking for. The sound signature is on the neutral side. The equalizer is available but doesn't do much. The Pioneer Elites give much better results using the equalizer. I am still working with all manual settings and have not done Audyssey yet. The best thing about the X1700H is how it does surround sound and the amount of control you have over each speaker. The experience is exceptional with my 5.1 def tech speakers and SVS PB 1000 sub. For sports I use multi channel and you fell like you are at the game. I am still playing with the virtual atmos and have mixed results. Everyone complains about the out dated gui but honestly it's not that big a deal. The Denon app is very good and has hardly any lag. Overall, considering the price and free earbuds with 3 year warranty and customer service you can actually talk to without waiting, this is a good value compared to anything else in this price range.

Amazing! The sound presence that this receiver provides is simply amazing. I use Roku for streaming services and the colors and sound are fantastic. I currently run a 3.1 surround sound and it's really give a 3D sound to sports and movies. Definitely a step above the Onkyo in the same price range. For the price this receiver rocks. Next, ordering surround sound speakers to complete 5.1 The setup for this is really nice with the on screen settings. Yes you need to understand how to setup your speakers, but it also has a wizard type guide to help you with that. I'm a pro tech so I understand how to set it up. There are a lot of options and some of it will depend on your tv and personal preferences. One note, make sure you buy quality HDMI cables, ones that can run 8K and 60Hz. The video and sound will be much better if you do. Cables are not equal so do your research. Thanks Denon for a superb product.

I just received the Denon AVR-X1700H yesterday to replace my old Yamaha 5.1 system. I currently have 5 .1 speakers and would like to buy additional speakers to fullfil the 7.2, i am lost between dolby atmos ceiling speakers or the ones that just point up, do you have an illustration of the ideal speaker configuration to maximize the potential of Denon, and another question, does Denon prefer a specific speaker brand? thank you

I upgraded from a old receiver 1910. Reason for upgrade : USB 2.1, BT, Wifi, Future ready. I had not much options in the region i am, so did some review and settled for the x1700H. After the setup and running audessy, straight out the sound quality was much CRISP, LOUDER and the separation from the speakers was distinctive. Denon 1910 i had to run the volume control high as 70+ to get good sound. Now with around 40+ the sound is loud and also the details are audible. Most of the media tested was app based Netflix, amazon, Youtube Music, TuneinHD. What i dont like: 1: The jump in the volume control 2: The HEOS App 3: The dos command like interface for audessy and setting. Hence the 4 stars. What i like: Its future ready and i hope i wont have to change the receiver for another 10yrs or so with 4/8K , HDMi 2.1 and the Wifi options.

I wanted a receiver that won't break the bank, but sound good and has 8K capability for future use. I have this installed running 7.2 (2 front, 2 surround, 1 center, 2 ceiling atmos, and 2 subs). I found the menu settings user friendly, and was able to tweak the settings for the best sound in my living room. I had issues with bluetooth connectivity, and called support. They were able to resolve my issue promptly. So far I have had this receiver for about a month. I wanted to give it time to break my speakers in. I am pleased with the sound quality for both music and movies. For a refurb product, it is excellent.

HDMI-arc failed to deliver audio to surround speakers. Both Denon tech support and Samsung spent hours with me... but no joy. A further disappointment with this unit is that Audyssey does not support combining wired and wireless speakers for balancing. The result was that my wireless rear surround speakers were dominant and could not be adjusted lower either by the remote, the HEOS app, the speaker control, or the avr 1700. I sent this unit back!

Purchased a refurbished unit and couldn't be happier. Product certainly appears to be in excellent condition. If I did not know better certainly would think it was brand new. And Denon customer service could not have been more helpful with set up. Had a few issues getting everything to work with a new TV. Every time I called the wait time was virtually zero and the rep on the line was extremely patient and helpful. Not something you can say very often these days. Highly recommend purchasing directly from the web site.

So after months of research I finally decided on the Denon x1700 H for many reasons, However I am sure I still have a month or so of a learning curve to go on the best settings yet to be discovered, but the product has been doing everything I wanted and with a 3 year warranty it does put me at ease a little more than normal. The fact that I spoke with the support side 1st was huge to make sure I was getting what I wanted with all the new upgrades and options now vs 5 years or more ago, They were helpful in my process , so in closing the sound is getting better every time I use a new adjustment and as I learn the settings with the 7.2 system. Thank you Denon for all your support and I will continue to support your product going forward, I do enjoy the clear and warm sound that only Denon is noted for and the fact the levels are good from the stereo to the Surround sound as well. I have owned 6 Denon AVR's over the years, mostly upgrades and always appreciated the sound, features and quality of Denon. However, I purchased through Denon an AVR-X1700HR and I am having frustrating issues with SACD, DVD-A and Blu-Ray-A. I have a Denon DBT-1713UD Blu-Ray/SACD/DVD-A/CD player (HDMI output) which worked great with my Denon AVR-X3000. The multichannel sound now is just not right, sounds muffled, It doesn't that sharp pronounced sound. I have Pink Floyd's The Division Bell on Blu-Ray Audio and it's unlistenable. I have quite a collection of SACD multichannel and stereo and DVD-A discs and I am very disappointed with the performance of the AVR-1700HR. I'm temped to go back to my AVR-X3000. That being said it sounds great with multichannel TV and movies.

Good day Denon, I am writing this review for a couple of reasons, I am a guy in my early 60s and I have been researching the latest and greatest on AV Receiver?s all makes and models, I did do my homework on the company?s and who they are and in these times who owns them, It is different now than it was 40 plus years ago, I work with a guy who has a Denon x3500 he said it?s not working when he move here its 3 year old but he was going to find service for it he said it was great before the move here from Texas but he still recommended it, as well as Marantz, I did take that into consideration as well. So I called 3 top brand sellers and spoke with each one support and service help, In my opinion the Denon Inc. was the best to deal with and they were very professional and took all the time I needed to get my question and answers done, now for the second part I had a huge learning curve to go though and was hoping to understand the new set up things I had to do to get what I hoped would be in my happy place. I took about a day and a half about 6 hrs. then maybe 2 hours to figure out the settings I would need to use, The tech then after helping me re set my system then emailed me a owner?s manual to help guide me the rest of the way, it was and will be a huge help tool now and going forward , I still have a lot to learn but the 1st day I was not sure of what the end result would be but now it is clear that this Denon AV X1700 H 7.2 is by far what I wanted and needed for all the choices a I had on my list of wants, as for price I received a $50.00 coupon and I have learn from the past to go to the actual manufacturer instead of Amazon or other dealers i.e. best buy etc. the price was very competitive and I feel that for the middle of the road I got the best deal for my purchase as well. In closing I feel that if you are looking for a solid system and a company that won?t be going out of business or advoiding the service issues one might have that Denon was the right choice for me and they pair great with my Kirsch R-41m and R-52c & Bose surround cubes. I am very happy with my selection and I am sure you will be too. John M

This was an update to my Denon AVR-X1200H that served me well for 6 years. It sounds great with my Klipsch speakers and was really easy to set up and calibrate. I use it with a PS5 and 4k BluRay player and it passes through all the bells and whistles like Dolby vision and Atmos and taps into the full power of the PS5 with no problems.

Excellent receiver. Considering the three 8 K HDMI inputs, this is an amazing value. Video games are incredible. Watched latest Maverick movie streamed - breathtaking sound with my 5.1 system. Setup was very easy using the Audissey system.

I bought this as soon as it came out from the Denon site, I got it before the holidays of 2021. I've now had it nearly a year and the 1 issue I've had and still have, is switching from Xbox Series X to PS5 to Google Chromecast as well as within those devices starting a movie or game that Kicks over HDR or DV, the AVR, DAILY, can't handle the switching seamlessly. I will get the Format not supported screen while I hear the sounds coming through, so I turn the AVR off and on or swap Inputs back and forth and its fine again. But it happens daily, might be able to turn on a game, switch to a movie, then after the movie back to a game and I get the error. So, I think the ALLM or VRR, with the AVR over eARC is half baked. I hoped for a firmware update to come this past year before posting this review so I could give it a 5 star, but this is just annoying and on top of that, to get the best sound your kind of pushed to buy their $19.99 app in order to turn off a setting which had the sounds out of the box feel like they were coming from the box. If i didn't buy the app, the setting is locked out unless we were to buy the next tier of AVR's. Other than those, i love this AVR, sounds are big, smooth, loud, and with Atmos, i love it! Hope a firmware will come out soon which will address the Switching of inputs on the AVR and it will be perfect.

The Denon x1700H does Dolby atmos and Dts X. It also has a front usb port, binding posts for all 5.2.2 speakers, and able to pass through 4k 120fps once I get a new TV.
