After using numerous rental units of various specs and Quality, I found the perfect lens. Light weight and powerful. Great lens to start my future hobby/ business.

EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

Ordered a week ago and arrived the 2 days ago, and a day before my birthday. Decided to snap some scenery pictures around my apt complex to take for a test drive, and the clarity of this lens is phenomenal!! The color contrast and focus is superb compared to the standard IS lens. I am already excited to do more with this lens in the days and weeks to come, as well as doing action shots testing focus and zoom capabilities in the near future. If you're looking to update your lenses, this is a go to lens that does great and being only about 3 lbs, you won't notice or tire easy from use. Pictures attached to show clarity of lens with color and focus is borderline HD quality.

good travel lens

Best thing about the lens is that it is light weight. Great for daytime pictures. I just didn't find myself using it so much.

Priced appropriately and versatile telephoto zoom

I bought this lens in 2013 and I have not been disappointed in the quality. I damaged the front element two years ago and had it replaced and calibrated and now it is sharper than ever. Image quality is fantastic and the speed of focusing is faster than the 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II that I rented to test on my 7D Mk II. Two things disappoint: 1 It can't be used with one of the canon extenders and 2) no tripod collar, which would be very useful when used on a monopod for better balance. Overall the 100-400mm provides more reach and is slightly sharper. A great first L series telephoto zoom.

Quality Lens at a Great Price

Not yet used to this new lens to give a real review. Did a few test comparisons between my present 70-300mm EF IS USM lens and there is a noticeable improvement in sharpness as well as colors being better defined. I was pleased to find that this 70-300 fit perfectly in the partition the earlier lens took in my camera bag. Will take a bit to get used to the increased weight. Goes well with my 24-70mm EF L purchased last year from Canon.

Sharp lens

I've had my lens for just about a year. All the shots I've taken have been hand held. I love this lens. I own the 70-200 f/4 L IS, the 200 f/2.8L prime, and this one is sharper than both. Just got back from a whale watching trip, this lens focused very fast, and I was able to shoot several 10 frame bursts with my 1DX mkii, all in focus and tack sharp. This is one sick lens, wouldn't let go of this for anything. It's not a fast lens, but worth every penny.

Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens

Great lens. Shot in a covered bridge and not enough light. Had to switch to my f2.8 70-200mm. But, I’m sure outdoors and for sports it will be great. Next assignment is in two weeks.

Too Slow!

I wish Canon would make their L lenses for pro's. It's a nice range to work with for nature, but please give me a fixed f4 throughout. The 100-400 makes this lens irrelevant They already have other variable aperture lenses suitable for amateurs. Canon: you can do better!

Has become my go-to lens for the 7D Mk II cameras

I shoot a lot of motorsports - 30 events a year on average. In the old days, a 70-200 was considered the "normal" lens for track-side work. Safety concerns have pushed us further and further away so we need the reach of a 300mm on a crop-sensor camera to get the kind of shots editors want. I have the wonderful 100-400 lens and instead of upgrading my 70-200 to get the IS technology I love, my Canon rep suggested I try this lens for reach, excellent optics and compact size. I made the decision to follow his suggestions and I'm very pleased I did. The 70-200 sits in the camera bag now for super low light assignments and I use this lens on the 7D Mk II and the 100-400 on my 5D Mk III for most race days. It's a rugged, weather sealed winner for what i do. Yes, it's a little slow but the high ISO capabilities of my Canon bodies, for practical matters, puts that concern to bed for me.

excellent lens, super optics

I use this lens for daytime sporting events and shooting wildlife and love it. The only drawback is the zoom ring is toward the front of the body meaning I can't reach it with a finger tip while shooting action sports

awesome lens

This is my first L lens that I own! (I rented the amazing 50mm L f/1.2 before I previously had the non-L 70-300mm version and also have the 55-250mm STM (I shoot with 80D). This lens beats them both, and by a lot! The colors are so much richer, and bokeh is a lot better than with 55-250. Also it is very sharp. I had to microadjust the focus a bit but not by a lot, now it's spot on. I got a refurbished lens but it looked like new.

Great for sports and wildlife

I've had this lens for 5 years now and shoot with it on a crop sensor (7D MkII body. It has a lightning fast focus and great range. I dropped it and had it repaired and calibrated by Canon I like it too much. Now it is as new and sharper than before.

It is the sharpest lense that I have ever shot with

Purchased this lense from ADAROMA last year & it is the sharpest lense that I have ever shot with, it is astounding, tack shape images through out the focal length & at every aperture, best L series lense in the Canon arsenal.

Can't go back

I had my Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens (NOT THE L LENS) for over 10 years. When it was time to retire that lens I wanted to upgrade to the L lens. Mainly because of the fast autofocusing and clear and crisp image the lens create was uncompairable. I am a portrait photographer. I use both studio and environmental lighting with my clients. For me the f/4-5.6 was not an issue. At f/5.6 i still get a blurry background. The motor is very quiet and most importantly even when my shutter speed is around 50-40 even 30 I can still hand hold my camera and due to AMAZING Image Stabilizer, and fast focusing, my images are sharper than any other lenses I have used. Unfortunately, after using such an amazing lens I can't go back and use my other non L lenses any more. However, thanks to great people of ADORAMA, I will be able to use their used equipment center and return my non L lenses and replace them with L lenses.

I have no regrets and am very glad I purchased it

I put this lens on a 77d and have been frequently impressed with the quality of my photos. This is my first L lens. It was a little hard getting over the up front cost but I have no regrets and am very glad I purchased it. Knowing what I know now, I would purchase it again in a heartbeat. Had considered the 70-200 but am glad I went with this one as I frequently use the extra range. If the zoom range and f-stop range work for the pictures you take, you should consider this lens.I feel it is a 5 star lens for my level but only gave it 4 stars as I haven't handled other top tier lenses. My next lens will be an L lens; no going back to the mid range and economy glass after owning this one. I have made multiple camera and lens purchases with Adorama and have had good success with them and they have treated me well, so I will give them 4/5 stars as well!

Superb Lens

I shoot this on a crop body (7D M2). It's sharp, fast, and a pound lighter than the 100-400 It's close focusing makes it great for flowers, put tubes on It and you have the ideal macro. A real winner

Underrated hidden gem

I bought this lens after doing a lot of research on telephoto zoom L series. Compared to the celebrated 70-200 f/4 L IS, or 70-200 f/2.8 L IS, this lens is not that popular. I wondered why! However, I got a good deal and bought it. I would never regret my decision. This is one of the sharpest lens that I have used. The zoom range is good for almost anything, wich makes it a perfect travel lens. Here are the Pros and Cons. Pros: 1. Perfect weight for handheld photography. No need for tripod. I use it for all day shooting on my 6d. The weight grows on you. 2. Excellent for portrait. The range between 100 - 150 is very sharp and you have the max f/4 limit, making creamy bokeh possible. 3. Sharpness at 300 mm. 100 crop at 300mm can beat other lenses (I compared with a 150-600mm from another maker). So if you are thinking of buying a longer lens but don't have all the cash, try this one! 4. Versatile: Takes decent landscape, excellent portrait and above expectation wildlife and nature photographs. Can't et any better. Cons: 1. Tracking moving object: Little slow in AI Servo mode - tracking is decent though. Maybe I will buy a 400 f.5.6 for that. But remember this is not supposed to be for BIF but I could take some decent BIF pics with practice. 2. Tripod Ring not included in price. See Pros. #1. I actually have it but never used it! Might be helpful if I decide to take the solar eclipse picture. Do you really need it? 3. Focusing ring placement: Some people say it's an inconvenience. I am just writing it here to reiterate - it's no big deal! The pros outweighs te cons many times over!

70-300 f/4-5.6 L

Great lens, arrived on time and no issues. The price was the same with or with out the optional bundle package. The pro software package was the most disappointing as it will not work on Apple products. So just be aware of that. Other than that love the lens.

Doesn't work for me -- yet

I already have a Canon 400mm zoom lens that's just a bit too bulky and heavy for handheld shooting for more than a half hour or so. Also, it's the previous generation of lens, so that it doesn't focus any closer than 10 feet or so. So I hoped the 70 - 300 mm lens would allow closer focus (which is does nicely) and crisp bird photos at a distance (which it doesn't do). It's quite possibly the photographer and not the lens, but the focus seems to be very spotty. It's acceptable occasionally and lousy the next exposure. I'm planning on recalibrating the lens to see if that helps., but at the moment, it's a disappointment.

Great Zoom Lens

I've had this lens for several years now and I love it. I bought it because I didn't like my old 70-300mm non-L zoom. Since I've had the 70-300L, I've added full frame to my kit and recently purchased a used Canon 70-200mm f2.8ii. If there is a reasonable amount of light, I'll grab the 70-300 instead of the 70-200. It is smaller and lighter weight, and I love the extra reach. Highly recommended.

Practical telephoto zoom

By Oliver

Though obviously not as fast as any of Canon's 70-200 L lenses, the 70-300L is in some ways a more practical, versatile lens for every day use. The biggest advantage is size: Though still a big heavy lens by most measures, by telephoto zoom standards, the 70-300L is *relatively* small and light. It isn't that much bigger than the 24-105L. And its about an inch shorter than the 70-200 f4, and about 2 inches shorter than the 70-200 f2.8, so it fits more easily in a camera bag. It is considerabl...

Beyond Expectations!

By FloridaDrafter

I haven't had this lens long, but I've taken over 1500 shots with it. It replaced an EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. Although that is a fine lens for the price, it left me wanting just a bit better image quality. Shipping time was great, in fact, it was delivered early. The lens was in great shape, and I mention this because I just didn't know what to expect from a refurbished product. I do have other "L" lenses, so I knew what to expect in the way of image quality, and this lens did not let...
