When shooting an event/occasion I wish to store the flash on the camera. Where most of my flash pictures are taken. I would like to quickly take the flash off and take a wireless flash pictures then put the flash back on the camera and continue as normal. However, to change to wireless, I need to hold down two buttons at the same time to get a menu. Wait, what two buttons were those. I think someone has been playing too many video games. I don’t want to memorize button combinations. I just want one button or switch to change to wireless.

The SB600 does a great job and I found that it is just enough flash to do about anything. I have control over the settings and I can sink it with other flashes as well. I used it by itself as well as with on-board flash. Over all I would rate this flash as a five because it is lite and does a great job as well as being cost efficient.

I reviewed the different Nikon lenses and felt this one fit the bill for me - a great price for a great lens. Not the newest that Nikon offers but certainly all I need. It was just as the salesperson said it would be.

I went to Adorama just to see what my used flashed they had in stock. When I was told that they had a used Nikon SB-600 in good condition, I was a little skeptical. I was surprised to see that not only did it come with the original box, but it also has the canvas case, instruction manual and original stand. The flash itself didn't have any scratches at all. It was in mint condition. The best part is that it supports hi-speed sync and works with my Yongnuo flash triggers.

I use my SB 600 on my D5100 and love the way the top swivels for different angles, making it so easy to use either vertically or horizontally.

Overall, while this is a good flash with good features, its severely let down by the quality and design flaws of the product. I consistently have issues with the battery contacts. Something about the quality or design of the battery bay, which seems to cause the flash to stop working. I am always trying to press the battery cover 10 different ways to make this work. Basically, at any given time, there is no guaranty that this flash would work, making it pretty useless for the times you want to use this flash.

I use this as a second or spare flash and also for off camera real estate photography so the commander mode is great. Like buying a car, slightly used saves money.

This is the second SB 600 flash that I own. I set both of them up with small soft boxes on stands and trigger them wirelessly with the pop-up flash on the D7000, which works great for portraits. Also hand-hold a single flash with a softbox for macro shots which enables me to stop down the lens for depth of field.

Too bad Nikon discontinued this one. It's the best flash for a lot of people looking for something better than the included flash on Nikon DSLR's or the little SB400. Do miss the bounce card you get on the other high-level flashes, but a post-it or index card takes care of it simply. It's not often I need more than my SB400, but when I do I definitely don't need an SB800 or 900. This one is right in the sweet spot.

After about 5 months, I encountered an issue in which the flash would fire at full power on its own, even when off of the hotshoe. I have since had it replaced by Adorama's used department for another used sb-600 but I did not have it for several events due to the lengthy turnaround. The unit itself is great when it works. I like it because it is among the smallest/lightest nikon speedlights that can be rotated. Macro shooters may want to note that this light cannot be angled slight-down only directly forward (perpendicular to the lens). Overall, assuming my first one was a dud, I would recommend this unit again. I have not heard that problems with these are very common.

Bought this to use as fill flash outdoors, and it does the trick. I am still learning all the tricks, but so far, so good. I really like the remote strobe feature with my Nikon camera. Using natural light and the flash as a remote, those annoying shadows just go away.

I recently added a digital camera to my equipment list. I wanted a flash that would work with my older Nikon film cameras as well as my new digital. I found the high line strobes to be more compicated to use and some did not have the power that this model has. The off camera fill flash works great as direct wireless with my digital camera and I can control the power selection with my camera settings. I can also use a flash slave and the flash controls to set the power output when using it with my older equipment.

The flash is great. It's easy to use. Being able to bounce your light and change your flash settings are great options to have. The only problem is that they burn out too easily. I and my business partner shoot virtual tours and have been through several of these units. We get about a year out of them, usually less when business is heavy and then it's off to buy a new one and have the old one repaired. At this point, we have several old ones as back-ups. By comparison, my old Sony V1 is a marvel. Despite only 5mp, and being far less sophisticated, in five years of the heaviest use, I never had a problem with the flash and five years past that, it still works. I must admit that the SB600 is worth the trouble. I'll keep using the SB600 all the units I have are finally unsalvageable. Clearly these units are not meant to endure what I put them through, but for what I do they keep things simple which is the best way to go. I like to travel as light as possible.

I was looking for a speedlight that delivered enough power and that was not too expensive. I was amaze to find the Nikon SB-600 for my Nikon camera I always buy nikon products and even though I know they tend to be more expensive at the same time I know I am buying a good product and when it comes to photography is just part of your career. The price was fantastic [@] had the same speedlight but more expensive so I decided to buy it at adorama they have super fast delivery and great customer service. I used my camera constantly and just need it a flash unit to complement it. Good for portrait, studio, and macro.

This flash is used as a supplemental on camera flash for additional power for news style photographs, as a wireless remote flash and/or fill flash for portrait, closeup and still life photography with my Nikon F3 with adapter, N65 and D7000 cameras. This is not as powerful as the SB900 but is less complicated to setup and functions well with all of my cameras, especailly versatile with the D7000 which can set flash levels when used as a wireless remote.

I does what it's supposed to. It's a basic standard flash made to work with the nuance of the newer digital cameras. I have a SB 25, but it's useless on new DSLRs. So I got this SB 600 to use on my D700, and haven't had any glitches since. I has descent recycling time, as long as you're not firing off more than 3~5 frames at a time. I you're doing rapid action that requires capturing several frames like sports then go with a flash/speedlight that can accommodate an external battery pack. But for the price this is an unbeatable deal. I use mine with an aftermarket bounce/diffuser to cut down on the hot spots & harshness.

I only used the product a couple of times and it just stopped working. Now the product warranty is not covered in my country since I bought it in UK. I guess I will have to pay to get it fixed.

In operation and speed of recycling, the SB-600 is an amazing performer. Teamed with the D7000, I get perfect exposures 98% of the time. Easy enough to tailor the output through the flash or camera anyway. Not a high powered flash when married up with some of my existing flash head attachments, but I knew that from the published guide number. Otherwise, this is a very good value for the cost. I'm sure you will be satisfied too.

Great little flash
By Flintstone
I have three of these and really enjoy using them. Matched with a Nikon DSLR with commander mode the uses are endless. Saves from having to drag my Strobelites everywhere. Versatile, not very expensive and compact. I use mine alot. Great flash for very little money. All three of my SB600's have been very reliable. They've all been workhorses.
Prematurely discontinued: it's great! Get one!

This flash is excellent in all aspects, a great bang for the buck, and was prematurely discontinued mainly because it is the expensive SB700's toughest concurrent. Hopefully by the time that you read this you can still find SB600s it stock if you browse around - I did, and I'm glad I got one! Seriously, it is really powerful, fast, handles several consecutive shots at ease, and works in wireless CLS mode with TTL perfection when commanded by my D7000's internal flash. Much easier to use than ...
