The quality of the camera is hard to beat. Strong construction, excellent lens. I have other camera's of this type but I find myself using this camera more often than the others. I highly recommend this Leica.

[...] should go for a SLR camera and not a point and shoot. This is the best point and shoot camera in the world. Leica amazes me daily.Cheers leica lovers, another notch in their belt, calls for a party...bring this camera.

A bit expensive for a point and shoot, and not exactly a "pocket" camera. In any case it takes amazing pictures and has a lot of flexible parameters. The 19:6 format is a nice touch and makes for a great addition to a portable camera.

I have has this camera for a few days now and i must say that i am pretty happy with it. Small, silent and good image quality makes this a keeper. I am going to primarily shoot this for BW output so the higher grain in higher ISO works for me just fine. But for color i probably would not want to shoot over 800. I only shoot RAW and it writes rather quickly..around 1.5-3 sec (havent timed it) but the file size is huge..about 20mb, which fills up my 2gb SD card quickly (85 images). Other than that i must say that i will have to shoot more in order to realize the cameras potential and capabilities.

I love this camera. I do find in bright light it is hard to see the LCD. I do miss having a view finder.

in bright outdoor light difficult to focus. so small that not easy for a guy's hand to really use very much. not a simple point and shoot camera. will need to move up a notch to actually get the total camera I prefer

The Leica D-LUX 3 is a compact digital camera with 10 megapixels, & has a LEICADC VARIO-ELMARIT 1:2.8-4.9/6.3-25.2 ASPH lens with a focal range from 28 to 112mm. The optical image stabilizer (O.I.S.) ensures that sharp pictures are obtained without a flash or tripod in critical light situations. The 2.8" display gives the photographer a reliable, precise evaluation while recording & playing
The CCD 16:9 sensor shows the image in the format filling 16:9 ratio. The built-in flash unit is activated manually for fill-in lighting & is neatly concealed within the camera body when not used. There are a number of programmed motive modes as well as the manual setting options for fast as well as creative/individual photography. There is no viewfinder because of the large display
Simply Beautiful:
The Leica D-LUX 3 is a compact but powerful companion. Available in black or silver finish, the 10 megapixels D-LUX 3 is an attractive companion with its clean-cut lines. Once again, Leica has combined quality optics and high-grade materials. It will appeal to existing customers & new groups
Leica Lens:
From wide-angle to telephoto The D-LUX 3 offers superior image quality not only based on a high resolution. A decisive factor is the LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 6.3-25.2 mm f/2.8-4.9 ASPH. With a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 & an interesting focal length range of 28-112 mm (35 mm format equivalent), there are hardly any limits to photographic creativity. The lens comprises of 9 high-quality lens elements in 8 groups. The joystick on the back of the camera allows for manual focusing
Every picture comes out fine:
An optical image stabilization (O.I.S) system that can be switched on or off at any time provides the user with the security in all sorts of situations that th pictures will turn out sharp. Dusk, indoor shots, quick snapshots, when using the longer focal lengths, the pictures always turn out sharp because of the O.I.S.
Leica D-LUX 3, pre-destined for Digiscoping with Digital Adapter 2 The topic photography through a high quality scope also known as Digiscoping is still of great interest for all interested in the demanding world of nature & bird watching. Through the ever-increasing rise in the quality of digital cameras, it is now possible to take fantastic pictures, whereas in the past more elaborate & expensive camera systems were needed
The D-LUX 3 is well suited for Digiscoping because:
•It has a large 2.8" display ideal to immediately evaluate shots of rare birds or other subjects in nature
•The optical image stabilizer allows for clear pictures even in low light or other critical situation
•The quick shutter release means that no more precious moments will be missed
The digital adapter 2 combines the compact form of the Leica D-LUX 3 with the eyepiece on the Leica Televid. This turns a compact digital camera into a camera with with extreme focal lengths for the ambitious nature lovers.
