Firecrest ND is a revolutionary new type of ND filter from Formatt-Hitech. Rather than dyed resin, Firecrest is a rare earth metal coating used to create hyper neutral NDs. These circular ND filters are made from Schott Superwite glass and feature stackable 5.5mm SuperSlim rings. I've had many filters over the past 10 years, and none of them scratched so easily as this one. I used it once (to my recollection without incident), and the next time I opened its case, there were some rather large scratches on the filter, like the ND coating was just flaking off... I'm a pretty careful guy, and would have noticed if I dropped, or rubbed the filter up against something hard. But there it is: a few months of ownership and one time actually using it, and its scratched all up.
