Great tripod, good weight, very stable. Just watch out for the feet - they fall off (lost one on day one)! Order part 440SPK2 (NOT 055SPK2 despite what website says - I checked with Bogen's tech support) if you want spiked replacement feet for gripping rough terrain.

I use this tripod for everything up to and including a 70-200 f2.8 with TC. I used this setup recently for shooting sheep in Denali because it was light and quiet. Only problems was the wind buffeting the setup but that is not the tripods fault. In fact, I find this leg design (3 sided) better in wind than the other popular tripod with round legs. If you don't need the compactness of a 4 section tripod, get the 3 section version for a little more rigidity. This tripod easily fits in my checked baggage. I love the leg section clamps because you can easily see if the clamps are locked or not.

The easy leg locks on 55MF4 is a delight to use compared to the twist locks on my previous tripod. I find myself using the tripod more frequently. Its light weight doesn't hurt either.

This tripod hits the sweet spot in terms of size, weight, versatility, ease of use, stability, and price. In my opinion, nothing else comes close in this price category.

My 1st good tripod-While I am satisfied with the product I will probably upgrade to handle heavier equipment soon.

A very stable and lighweight tripod that can be used for landscapes or macro work. Can get get very low to the ground or work easily at my 6foot level. Still a tad heavy but I carry it wherever I go.

I've used this primarily for nature photography in lots of low light situations in low-lit Oregon forests. Great for macro photography to allow me to be down low. Easy to carry on long hikes.

Retaining all the features of the 055MF3, the 055MF4 is a more compact tripod geared to the traveling photographer. The 055MF4 folds to just a shade over 21 inches yet extends to just under 5 1/2 feet.
Light, simple, strong, and extremely versatile to position, the 055MF4 will comfortably support up to 15lbs and offers a minimum height of only 4.3 inches for low-angle shooting.
Without compromising on stability or rigidity of the tripod, Manfrotto engineersreduced the weight of the 055MF4 by utilizing carbon fiber legs with quick action lever locks in magnesium and resin.
In addition, they incorporated the patended design of the 3021PRO series top spider which offers four leg angle settings, and converts the center column into a lateral arm.
The center column itself is of the latest generation of aluminum and resin materials. The low-angle adapter forms the top section of the center column and is easily detached by simply unscrewing the knob at the bottom of the column. This enables the head to be left mounted on the center column when switching between low-angle and normal shooting positions.
All parts are assembled using a proven pressure clamp technology for greater durability and in-the-field serviceability. To make transportation even easier, the 190MF3 is supplied with a hand padded carrying strap that can also double as a hook to hang weight and increase stability during extreme wind conditions.
