Excellent performance, great sound, simple to use. I would prefer a brighter power indicator and silver color on the function push buttons to be visible and contrast the black background.

Chose to purchase this Yamaha CD Player over other brands and models. I am so thankful that I made the right choice. It is connected to another Yamaha product .. the A-S501 integrated amplifier. I purchased this player to install in my main audio system that hadn't had a CD player for a few years. The original player flaked out many years ago so I used a hybrid DVR/DVD player instead. That unit was sold as I didn't need it anymore. I thought I would use my BluRay player as a source but the BD unit is hooked to an AV receiver that has ARC so every time I turn it on, the AV receiver and the TV turn on! The AV receiver is hooked to a 5.1 sound system that works for video but not for full range music. The audio system consists of a Carver C5 preamp and a TFM125 power amp, and DBX Soundfield 10 speakers. A real vintage set up! Once I hooked up the CD-S303 and played some CDs, I was thrilled with the result. I do have a smaller audio system in my studio that sounds decent, but this Yamaha player is fabulous and the difference is noticeable. The sound is clean and comes through without artificial coloring. I used to have an EQ in the system, mostly for older vinyl LPs but I definitely won't need an EQ with this player as it handles older CDs and lower quality recordings on CD-Rs well. For the price this is a great player and will fit a new as well as vintage system

Very simple but well-presented product. It is solidly built with very few frills. I did not notice much difference when using the Pure Direct feature. Sound is richer than using a consumer-grade DVD player. A good entry level audiophile CD player.

I believe my last CD player (different manufacturer) burned up because I failed to turn it off when falling asleep at night. The auto shut off was the most important feature I was looking for.

I have been using this unit quite often. It plays all my old CD without an issue. I would have preferred a CD exchanger, but it seen like these are not made anymore. Overall, I love this unit.

Good sound quality. Quality buttons on player, and I far prefer symbols for functions opposed to text. Nice finish. Remote build could be better. Firmware updates are frustrating, needs to be fully plug and play. I know a lot of buyers value USB port but I'd prefer it without.

After latest FW update it works perfectly. Previously it won't play gapless live cds. Plays with great quality, even with cheap RCA cables. With professional ones you'd get an amazing performance. Playing via USB is good but inconvenient - it does not play in date-to-order but most often random. It does not jump or goes forward to subfolders, at least with me. You can buy a tiny usb card so it won't affect the aesthetics and enjoy.

Very well designed, blends in well with the rest of my components, Sound is excellent. Easy to set up and operate. I was concerned about previous reviews of discs skipping. This unit came with latest firmware installed. Did have one or two discs skip, took them out cleaned up with a micro cloth, it worked. My CD collection has been sitting on shelves since the late 90's and some needed cleaning, they sound great. Excellent addition to my home audio system, its powered by a Yamaha RX-A6A. Very pleased.

I enjoy vinyl and a good turntable, but I recently upgraded to a 100 watt Yamaha stereo receiver and wanted something to play the CDs I still had. This unit is a single CD unit with great features such as pure line. I am in no way an accomplished audiophile, but the sound quality is incredible through a pair of Polk Audio towers. I would strongly recommend this unit. Vinyl albums can be very expensive, but CDs are mostly $7-13 range and sound so good on this unit

This CD player is more than I had hoped for. Pure Direct, Plays directly from USB which is a huge selling point for me. It will play almost any format you throw at it. I couldn't have asked for a better product. The engineers at Yamaha have created a fabulous machine at a very reasonable price.

The CD player is easy to use and is clearly well made. The onboard DAC produces very nice sound that is natural and clear. The ease of being able to hook it up to a different DAC using optical or coax is great. As both can deliver 96 khz audio from your usb drive hooked up to the front of the CD player. The control is easy to use and straight forward having standby as an option is convenient too.

I replaced my front room television entertainment system with a new Yamaha receiver/tuner, wireless Music Cast speakers, and the CD-S303 CD player. The CD player has a USB port in addition to the CD tray to allow the play of a variety of music source files. Great combination of components delivering quality sound. I only wish I had done this years ago... the TV will never adorn my front room again!

This is my second CD unit from Yamaha. This unit is fantastic. Great sound, and stability. My only complaint is small, but what is the point of Auto play? The player has to be turned off, then back on with a CD in the tray. This makes no sense. My suggestion is when a CD is loaded, it should play automatically if this feature is turned on. Maybe with the next software update, this issue could be addressed?

I love the S303, sounds great, it is hooked up to 1977 Marantz 2265B, the two of them together make beautiful music. Since I've had it, I've been listening to it for 5 to 8 hours a day. Personally I can't say anything bad about it. I have nothing but praise for it. Great CD player I would recommend it definitely to anyone. I'm listening to it right now while writing this review.Just Love it

I am very impressed with the overall sound quality and ease of use. Purchase this to replace my old 25 yr old single disk Nakamichi CD player. The sound quality is awesome, playing some older CD's I now hear sounds that I grew accustom to not noticing were missing. Read some reviews about issues with software needing updating but not with me. Unpacked it, plugged it in and started listening. Controls are simple and clear. The remote is also easy to use. This product looks great and is very easy to install and use. As far as sound, It sounds much better than my old Pioneer player. I have a Denon/Klipsch system and with the CD-S303BL it sounds great. Would recommend to anyone who wants to improve their CD's sound. It is also an excellent price.
