The Canon 1DX MarkII is an upgrade for me. I use it for sports and wildlife photography. There are a lot of things on the menu that I am familiar with from my 5D Mark II. An excellent camera that works well with the Canon line of lenses I have, and I will try it with a few different options of lenses for sports.

I've used Canon cameras for 35 years and as soon as I picked this one up it felt familiar. Buttons are just where you expect them to be and performance is absolutely fantastic. My pro friend recommended a switch to Sony, but so glad I didn't. With all of my Canon L-series lenses I just figured this would be the better choice. This is one fun camera to use!

Sold my 1DX for this... the reason why is I have the 500 F4 IS II and the 2x TC III was useless with the 1DX due to the lack of AF points at F8.... The 1DX2 has all 61AF points enabled and the center 21 are all cross type at F8.... that is a HUDGE improvement over the 1DX... Now the 2X works as well as the 1.4TC III .... Live View has Dual Pixel AF which works excellent for verifying focus on distant subjects..... The only gripe is at 14 FPS the sensor gets dirty quicker.....

I rate this purchase pretty high, the only thing that didn’t work was, it was delivered 3 days early and I wasn’t ready for it. The sales guy, Mike, was real helpful and the transaction went very smooth. There was more camera than I expected, a lot more bells, whistles and buttons on this thing, however once dialed in I find it to be an awesome piece of equipment.

The camera is great, truly the flagship Canon camera. As for the kit: The extra battery is a Canon is a brand new LP-E19 OEM battery. The CF card is fine (I wish it was a Cfast card or a Cfast card reader). The card wallet is nice I did not try the cleaning kit or the software package. The remote trigger doesn't work The camera bag is not something I would carry a Canon 1DX MkII in.

Great camera. Everything I expected from Canon...I shoot action sports and the 14f/s is spot on. A little on the heavy side and pricey, but nothing I didn’t expect. This camera uses a Compact Flash and a CFast card. I’ve not used the CFast card yet as it is rather pricey—I have one on ordered.

I just bought this 1Dx Mark ii and I love it.. I have the orginal 1Dx and I love it too.. Not only is this a great camera but having this bundle from Adorama makes it that much more for a little extra money. It’s all well worth it and shipping was fast and customer service was great when I placed the order over the phone.

This is an amazing camera for any kind of professional photography. I am a professional wedding photographer and it works much better than other models in low light. That means you can go higher on that ISO and not worry about the noise and grain as much. I wish the touch screen was as good as 5D4 model and had the WiFi built-in. But overall very nice and solid professional camera.

Couldn’t be happier with the cameras performance. I believe that it is the best overall camera that is out. I decided to get this camera instead of buying a camera for only stills and one for only video. This camera does both incredibly well.

I am an amateur bird photographer with about 1500 hours in the field in 30 months. I have had the idx II for about a month but only been out with it about ten times due to poor weather so this is an "initial thoughts" review. First off, my rating of 4 as opposed to 5 has only to do with the fact that this body has been out for over two years, allowing technical advances by Canon and competitors to best some performance aspects of the camera at lower prices. I would prefer to rate it at 5 for performance and 4 for value. Upon first use I did find the weight difference between this camera compared to my 5d IV was very noticeable for handholding with my 600mm IS II. I also prefer some of the ergonomics of the 5d IV such as the top mode dial, on-off switch position and some on the fly setting adjustments allowed by the 5d IV while maintaining subject contact through the viewfinder. The 5d iv also has the advantage of being 30 mpx vs 20mpx on the 1DX MKII. The obvious advantage of the IDXMK II is its ability to shoot up to 14 frames per second in normal photo mode, which along with a touted faster focusing ability is why I bought the camera. As primarily a bird shooter I am finding that the faster frame rate is very beneficial if there is any movement at all in the subject- NOT JUST RAPID MOVEMENT OR IN FLIGHT SHOTS.. For bird photography the slight difference in head, foot, or body position of the subject is the difference between a good shot and just another "stock" shot. Catching water droplets off a bird's beak or a stream of water off of a birds foot at the right time or a running plover while floating above the sand can make or break a shot. The camera's ability to focus just a bit more quickly than the 5d iv seems to make every lens perform just a little bit better. The attached hummingbird shot shows the frame rate catching fast moving wings at a favorable position and illustrates why I am willing to give up a little bit of detail to have a better chance of getting the "best" shot. Other pluses are the long lasting ( though expensive) batteries - a full charge will last all day in most cases, the marketed 400,000 image exposure mechanism which would equal the life of 2 other cameras and reliability of the professional quality body. One considering this camera should look elsewhere for info on the video aspects ( much better than Nikon D5 - longer shoot time than Sony mirrorless) as I have taken only one short video and found that 1080P 30 fps was not a high enough frame rate for smooth video of a rapidly foraging bird. 4k 60 uses a lot of data space but also contains 8 mb still captures. Extensive video use of this camera would increase the value quotient considerably. On a side note I shoot in high heat and harsh sunlight frequently. The off center viewfinder makes it difficult to keep a hat on while looking in the viewfinder when the camera is in vertical mode as the viewfinder is below camera vertical center in that orientation.

I love everything about this camera. Almost. Two requests: when set for 4k or 120fps video, can you force the camera to the CFast card? Pulling a card out will reset the camera to the CF slot. Then the 4k is only 1080 on the CF, or it craps out and while the camera is on my Ronin, I am unaware. :-( Provide some warning message OR a menu option to control this. Also, WiFi will be finicky when reconnecting to my iPad (which is dedicated only to the Canon wifi when the camera gets powered off m...

The BEST keeps getting better
By Vanilla G.
Though it has only been two weeks...what a great two weeks it has been!!!!! The first shots I took were at ISO 25600. Sent them to a friend and all he could write was "WOW!!!". While it does take skill and practice to get better, this camera makes it more fun and easier to practice and get better!!!
Canon has unveiled the second generation of its most advanced action photography pro camera, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II. With a maximum of 14fps standard/16fps Live View burst rate and up to 170 RAW images per blast when using a Cfast card, as well as improved AF performance and 4K video capture, the full-frame Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is destined to the camera of choice for sports photographers, wildlife photographers, and even for studio photography.
The EOS-1D X Mark II's full-frame 35mm 20MP sensor is bumped up from the original 18MP CMOS, and while its native ISO range of 100-51,200 remains the same, Canon has added one stop of expanded sensitivity, and it now goes all the way to ISO 409,600. Minimum and maximum ISO can be specified for auto ISO. The sensor includes gapless micro lenses for what Canon says is improved low-light performance and improved noise reduction in the shadows. The sensor is also the first Canon full-frame sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which they say improves high-speed focusing precision during Live View when shooting either stills or movies.
The EOS-1D X Mark II's Digic 6+ processor gives it a major performance boost, especially CFast 2.0 cards. Record up to 14fps full-resolution RAW or JPEG images when shooting with the viewfinder and using the mirror mechanism; up to 16fps when shooting in Live View mode. The maximum burst capacity for full-sized RAW images is 170; when shooting JPEGs, the only limit is the capacity of the memory card. The shutter unit is rated for 400,000 frames. Currently, Sandisk's Extreme Pro Cfast 2.0 cards in 128 and 64GB capacities are the only cards for which compatibility has been verified.
It has same number of autofocus sensors (61, including 41 cross-type), but the AF area has been expanded approximately 8.6% top and bottom of the central area, and 24% of the top and bottom of the peripheral frame. This wider subject tracking area is said to improve the AF system so the camera's AF can keep up with sudden changes in speed and subject position. There are many user-selectable AF sensor point patterns. The system has been improved to EV -3, and all AF points are compatible down to f/8, for better low-light performance. The algorithm has been improved for greater precision. The camera uses an advanced 360,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor and processor. This helps both the AF and exposure. The high-resolution infrared sensor combines with refined algorithms to recognize subjects and maintain focus on moving objects.
The viewfinder has been refined, adding several “heads-up” superimposed displays on the optical image and a new touch-capacitor screen. These include active AF point displays, an electronic level, shooting mode and metering mode indicators; Exposure levels and settings are displayed in the black border surrounding the image. With all of this information at eye level, users are less likely to need to take their eyes off the subject or be distracted from the composition to make adjustments.
The camera's 3.2-inch touch-panel TFT LCD monitor has 1.62 million dot resolution, and an anti-reflective surface. The touchscreen lets you change the AF point in live view at the touch of a finger, and image magnification during Live View video and stills is possible.
In addition to its talents in the areas of Sports, Wildlife and Studio photography, the EOS-1D X Mark II has impressive movie-making chops. It captures up to 4k video at up to 60fps—up from its predecessor's maximum resolution of 1080p. It is the first EOS to capture full HD video at 120fps, so you can capture high-resolution slow-motion action. The camera's touch screen lets you easily select focus while the camera is rolling. An 8.8MP still image can be grabbed from the 4K video to review and check things like focus and exposure, or simply to get a production still.
ISO range for 4K video, while not as dramatic as for stills, is still an impressive 100-12,800 in 4K and up to 25,600 in full HD. Uncompressed HDMI output promotes video editing with minimal image degradation. Videos can be saved as MP4s as well.
Canon has added computational lens aberration and diffraction correction abilities. The camera stores information about previously released lenses and will correct for their faults for the first time in an EOS. Distortion correction helps resolve barrel and pincussion distortion; diffraction correction is said to virtually eliminate blurring effects that can occur when shooting at small apertures. Canon says these corrections can be made so quickly they won't slow down the camera's operations in any way. This is a convenient feature that reduces post-production time and effort.
With built-in GPS, images can be geotagged with auto timestamps. An accessory WFT-E8A wireless file transmitter lets you upload images quickly. The optional Wireless File Transmitter lets users quickly transfer images via iOS and Android devices, which can also be used as a remote control for the camera.
The camera body is constructed of rigid, high-strength magnesium alloy and features an ergonomically designed grip that they say will reduce hand fatigue. The shutter mechanism is made from lightweight carbon-fiber blades and is rated for up to 400,000 cycles at up to 16fps. It has extensive gasketing for improved dust and water resistance.
