i love this camera! i use this camera to take pictures of the grandbaby playing soccer. even though these are only 4 year olds, it's alot of action going on. this id mark 3 outshines my 1d mark2! with the larger screen, i'm able to see and review my shots better. this is what this camera is made for! canon should of named it the grandparent camera!!! some say it is very heavy, but you only have to add a hand strap and your in business.

I live in Alaska and have always wanted/needed a high frame rate camera for whale breaches. I have other EOS 1 bodies but they were not this fast. Love it.

I ordered the Canon 1D Mark lll and it came in the next day. This was what I always get, fast results. The camera was great but I had a problem, the text was to small for old eyes and I have a 7D and have changed the lens setup for the 7D from the manufactures.. I forgot about this. It would take weeks and money to redo the lenses. With this, I sent it back. In 7 days, I had my money back in the card. Adorama, thank you.

Purchased for a knock around river body that will likely be forever fused to a 400mm f5.6. Adoramas description of the product was accurate and though it shows heavy wear and is missing some components still takes great pictures.

This camera was bought as a gift for me from my wife with my input. This camera will become my main body amongst the 3 bodies that I have. Even though this was a used camera, it came looking like a new camera. There were VERY minimal blemishes and it worked like a dream staight out of the box. It came missing the top rubber port cover and I felt like this was a piece that could have been fixed before selling the camera. I have since bought the replacement which was only a $4.00 part, hence my statement I felt it could have been a part replaced before sending it to me. A great transaction and a great product I received from Adorama.

We own 15 Mark III's and will be buying 15 more in the next year. After the auto focus fix, the camera produces great 16x20's and is perfect for all kind photographic endeavors!

Didn't know my 17-55 2.8 lens didnt fit on camera, my 70-200 2.8 fits. I havent done football yet but I've done some events but with only the 70-200 lens so far. I'll know more when football starts and I get another lens for it ( 24 -105mm )

The only drawbacks I have found after about a month's use is that the ISO must be manually set, and, at 4.6 pounds with lens, it's heavy.

The Mark III is a top notch camera if you can get one without the AF issue. Just make sure the serial number does not fall in those impacted by the AF issue and sub-mirror issue. Canon factory service center now has my Mk III for repair under the "Advisory" (or recall) for this model. This camera is ultra fast and images are georgous when they are in focus! I think it just may be my dumb luck that I got one with the issue. But I upgraded from a 1D Mark II and I can really tell a difference. Just make sure the serial number they give you when you ask about a camera is the serial number you get!!

I use the Canon Mark 1D Mark iii for indoor ballet and other dance photography. Coupled with the Canon135 f/2 lens, the combination is outstanding. Clear, crisp files with beautiful color. The camera locks focus in low light, and is very accurate. I have had the camera for almost two years and have no complaints other than the LCD screen, which is not great. In every other area, this camera shines...

I've owned several 1 series cameras and this one much like the MKII and MKIIN is just a work horse camera.

This camera is just fantastic! The image quality and the AF speed is just amazing. I have to admit that I had some reluctancy purchasing this system due to its AF mirror issues on AI Servo, but I must say... my copy is flawless. I also own a 5DMK II and I can say that the 1d MK III has a bit of an edge in still photography than the 5D MK II. You will not be disappointed with this camera!

It was this or a 5D2 for me. Glad I chose this camera. Great ISO performance, amazing Autofocus, and it's image quality is superb. I am amazed at how much detail I can pull from the highlights.

Unfortunately the used copy I was sent was not very clean through the viewfinder, the mirror was visibly dirty, and the camera did not focus well: It would focus slightly closer than the subject. I was able to confirm this by shooting an object on an angle such as a fence... the "focal point" was just a little soft, and the closer items were sharp. Likewise after autofocus, if I turned it off after auto focus, tapped the focus ring just slight toward infinity (away) then the subject would come into focus.I returned the camera [...]

The 1D Mark III is not just a sports camera. It actually makes a solid all purpose camera. Don't let the 10mp fool you, it's just fine for most needs. All my clients print catalogs smaller than 9x12 or are web clients. The 10mp res is just right for the majority of uses. So really the 1DmkIII is a just a practical 1DSmarkIII, who's 21mp is beyond most current client needs. I shoot all my fashion and music work on the this body. It's fantastic for shooting live music performances with it's AF and 10fps speed. I get more infocus shots with the 70-200mm on this body than on any other. For fashion, image quality is supberb. Canon really did emphasis image quality over megapixel. The affects of the micro lenses over the sensor really is apparent. Images are very clean, detail rich and noise free. The 1.3x factor is a plus to me. This means I gain depth of field with my fast prime lenses. Instead of a 50mm, I shoot with a 35mm which is a plus because shot wide open, the 50mm was too shallow. So I actually prefer the musical chair bump down one lens focal length for the primes. Silent mode is a big plus when shooting events and you don't want to attract too much attention. It does slow you down, but worth the feature and discreetness. I do wish that Canon the camera body was smaller like the Nikon D700, which lets you add or remove the vertical grip. On my location gigs, I sometimes wish the camera was smaller and/or lighter when running around. Solid camera with fantastic image quality. Don't overlook this camera because it's "only" 10mp. It's the best 10mp out there. I don't know how much longer Canon will be supporting the 1.3x sensor though, now with Nikon shifting toward FX, it seems like Canon may have to follow. I do prefer the 1.3x as I said above.

I bought a Canon factory refurbushed copy of this camera. First, out of the box this camera appears to be as new and fresh as a non-refurb. Best of all, it has been individually and carefully tested by Canon. Basically a new camera at a great price .... perhaps better than new in that any QC issues have been taken care of. I have tested this cam for AF, and can say that as far as I can tell it performs perfectly. In other words, I can to my satisfaction attribute any OOF's to me. The camera is far more sensitive that the 5D I traded up from, but far more capable as well. The learning curve was not to great, and many new doors have been opened. My images have improved as a result, and while the 5D is a great cam as well, the IQ from the MkIII is superior in many ways. PP options are also improved: images respond better IMHO, especially to sharpening, and overall are better. Yes it is heavy ... and noticable. While I'm OK with weight, I'm thinking of getting a small body as for travel ... not just weight, but when you don't want to stand out too much ... your gear that is. Any Canon lens owner looking at the D700 should look at this cam as well. And if you don't see the new 5D Mk II as fitting your needs regarding AF, you might also take a look at the Mk III.

I cannot even begin to tell yo how fast it is. I got it today, put on my old 70-200 2.8L IS lens and took it to the beach where my brother was skimboarding. Several times when I wasn't paying attention, I caught my brother doing tricks. I would throw the camera up to my face and just squeeze the button. I thought sooner or later, after a few frames, the focus would catch up to the incredible 10 frames per second. I took a bit over 600 photos... I knew lots would be out of focus. Imagine my surprise when I arrived home, popped the CF card into the computer, imported the pics into lightroom and found... 3 OOF. My god... that is simply amazing! I use both Nikon and Canon... have gravitated more towards Canon over the past few years. Even with the new D3 out, I still think the 1D Mark III is tough to beat. This camera is simply amazing.

I use this camera in very harsh conditions, it never fails me. The images are clean and the colour perfect, which cuts down time wasted processing the raw files. The camera is blindingly fast. There are so many custom features that its a problem setting up in the beginning,, but a blessing when you get used to it. This camera has a steep learning curve. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone but an advance amatuer or pro. Its a lot of camera to deal with and requires knowing exactly what you are doing. Its not a toy for happy snaps

Exceptional machine!! Fast, accurate focus; low noise, very solid build, brilliant colors. Overall exceptional image quality. I have been shooting 20D and 5D and have experienced no problems moving to the 1DMIII. Very similar controls. I am not a pro so I might not have the critical eye (or needs) of a pro shooter. 10fps is almost frightening the first time you press the shutter :-) Very excited about ISO auto adjustment in custom functions, this should really help in fast paced shooting in changing light to reduce camera shake. I am still working my way through the manual, there are so many opportunities to customize this camera to specific situations. I have shot mostly with my 24-105 f4.0 and it is a great compliment to this camera. Looking forward to some action shots with the 70-200 f2.8 IS, that should be really sweet. The 16-35 f2.8 is not quite as ultra-wide as on the full frame 5D but still a very nice wide angle (about equivalent to 21mm on the 5D). At this early stage of the game I just could not be more pleased with this truely fine camera.

Canon's flagship EOS-1D Mark III is the most advanced EOS Digital SLR ever produced. It has a new 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor (APS-H size) with Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System and a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with Canon's Live View technology. The CMOS sensor has an expanded sensitivity range of ISO 50-6400. 14-bit A/D conversion means fine gradation and a significant drop in digital and shadow noise.
With its generous 28.1 x 18.7 mm image size, the sensor captures every nuance of your scene from highlight to shadow. Extensive noise reduction ensures an extremely high signal-to-noise ratio. Framing is natural because the sensor's 3:2 aspect ratio is the same as in 35 mm cameras, and the sensor's large size realizes an effective angle of view that's just 1.3 times the focal length indicated on Canon EF lenses The 1D Mark III has a redesigned 100% viewfinder, a new 45-point AF system, and can shoot up to 10 fps continuously with a maximum burst of 110 shots.
Dual "DIGIC III" Image Processors work in tandem to speed up every process while refining image quality. A new, lighter body has improved weather sealing and shutter durability. Every facet of the EOS experience has been enhanced with the 1D Mark III. To combat against stray dust that enters the camera and adheres to the image sensor during a lens change, the 1D Mark III features a Canon-designed Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit. The IR-cut filter cleans itself automatically with ultrasonic vibrations, removing dust from the sensor assembly.
Dust that has been missed by the Integrated Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit can also be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional (DPP) Version 3.0. The 1D Mark III's imaging sensor is able to single out the dust particles on its surface, then plots out their location coordinates within the image. This data is transmitted along with the image, whether JPEG or RAW, and can be either manually or automatically erased in Canon's DPP version 3.0. This added software option ensures the cleanest possible image, perfect for printing or archiving.
