Average camera.

Well, I have this camera for a while now, I love it definitely, but to compare with the price of it, and how much it costs to make a complete set of it, what it needs to perform its best, is very expensive. And this is not only about Sony, unfortunately all the companies nowadays think about money and profit more than how they can make customers and people happy. So it is very obvious that it is based on earning more with selling more products, rather than making it easy going for the customers.

Awesome camera

Having used Blackmagic cameras i fancied a change, purchased the FX3 and never looked back. It's a beautiful bit of kit with stunning footage. I'm now using it as my main camera and contemplating selling my blackmagics so I can get another Sony as a B Cam

Ecellent camera!

I Own the Sony cameras, A7III, A7IV, and A9III. and sent them to be maintained at Sony. I received the FX3 to use in the meantime and I loved it! better than all three cameras I own by far!

Content Creator's Dream

Bought recently to upgrade the quality of my video production but keep form factor and weight down, and it's turned out to be the best investment I've made in my gear and reflects incredibly well on my brand. The insane low-light capability of the FX3 is genuinely game-changing and allows so much more flexibility in my run & gun setups.

One of the best small form cinema cameras!

This has been a dream to use! The image quality is beautiful. The dual native ISO is clutch! The compact form but solid build quality is worth every penny! It's quite, and have not gotten any issues with over heating. One is a must have!

Excellent camera, hope sony supports this for more than 3 years

This is simply an outstanding camera in all aspects, simple to use, assuming you've familiarized yourself with the labyrinth of all Sony menu systems. excellent design, hopeful sony doesn't ignore firmware upgrades but mostly wishing for compact flash B to be in the mix and stop with the absurd compact flash A nonsense

Perfect small size cinema camera!

Love the fact I can make the rig as big or as small as I want! But as a cinema line camera I would love for the shutter angle update as well as more cinema focused features.

My Perfect Filmmaking Companion

After years of waiting and anticipation, the moment I finally got my hands on the Sony FX3 felt surreal. As someone deeply invested in filmmaking, this camera has quickly become an essential part of my gear. Right out of the box, it impressed me with its lightweight and compact build, which is perfect for someone like me who loves the flexibility to shoot anywhere, from spontaneous run-and-gun shoots to more planned productions. What stands out the most is the stunning full-frame sensor. The image quality is exceptional-I'm talking sharp, detailed footage that makes every shot look cinematic. The dynamic range also blew me away; it handles highlights and shadows with ease, giving me the freedom to capture scenes exactly the way I want without worrying about lost details. The slow-motion capability (4K at 120fps) has been a game changer for me. I've been able to capture moments in incredible slow motion without any compromise on quality, and that's opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities. The ergonomic design feels like it was built for someone who's always on the go like I am. It's lightweight enough for handheld shooting but also robust enough for more professional setups. The built-in XLR inputs are a lifesaver for audio, saving me from carrying around extra equipment. It's these small details that make the FX3 so special to me. In short, the FX3 feels like it was designed for filmmakers who are passionate about versatility and image quality, and it's been a perfect match for my style of work. This camera is more than just a tool-it's an inspiration, pushing me to keep creating and exploring new ideas in filmmaking.

Best Camera I've Ever Owned

I came from a camera that was an APS-C and I would also have to fight the light and adding more. With this camera I'm fighting with the light and not against it and turning light down. Best camera I've used plus we got shutter angle. True cinema camera! I was thinkin about buying a cage in which I'm still going to do but there isn't a need with this thing as there are so many mounting points.

Operation error

I have been using the FX3 for one wedding and one music video during July 2024. There was so many issues wile recording. It started disconnecting on and on. I had the second body A7iv but I was stressed and trying to use the FX3 as I've setup settings for it. When I look on my memory card after the ring exchange nothing was showing. I send my memory care to the manufacturer to recover and I've received the recovery footage but nothing showing what I needed. Then I try to use the FX3 for a music video. There again the operating system was given me many issues. Footage have been recorded but when I try to view them there is an error showing the card is not recognised, reinsert the card. I did many times but the same issue. I insert the same card to A7iv and it was showing and I managed to download to my computer with no issue.

By far the best camera I've owned

I have had this camera now for two months and was concerned the affordable price would give me something substandard but you will honestly get a beautiful cinematic look that is of breathtaking quality. I'm using the Sony 50mm 1.4 with an ND filter, giving a beautiful look way passed the quality of previous cameras that I had used like the Black Magic series. The Sony FX3 is reliable and opening up childhood dreams of being able to make shorts.

Fantastic cinema camera

This camera is as bigger a game changer as the 5D was all those years ago. I'm an Arri and Fuji man but the colour science coming out of a Venice2 I used recently was superb. This little camera is the same. Intuitive cine centric layout. Thank you Sony. I'm a massive fan.

The Perfect Cinema Camera

I got the FX3 for long-form videos and never had experience with a cinema camera before that. I wasn't expecting anything too different from my other Sony cameras like the A7IV, and while the menu system is similar, the FX3 is really fun to use for video. I love the A7IV, but if you want something designed for video with a similar form factor, the FX3 is incredible. I love that it's full-frame and I can use the same lenses across my FF cameras. The video quality just has a certain look to it that's not as digital looking as other cameras. It's easy to use and the tally lights on the front and back are awesome to have. The build quality is top notch and button layout is smart. I love the handle it comes with and the XLR inputs work really well. I also was able to add to the handle and rig it a little bit but still keep it simple. I'm also really impressed with the photo quality! Genuinely surprised by the photos. They look like any other Sony. I thought they would be softer with less resolution but they look amazing. Unless you're printing big physical photos, this is fully capable of photos like how 99% of people view them on digital screens. The FX3 is AWESOME!!

We want shutter angle and false color.

I give it 5 stars for the expected arrival of the shutter angle, and I expect a false color, since I feel that Panasonic with its lumix is surpassing us,

If you don't care about an EVF, primarily shoot video, then you should consider the Sony FX3 over the A7SIII

By JASON H.

I've been seeing the question a lot on forums and video reviews, "Who is this camera for?" Well, I upgraded from the A7III, which is an incredible camera by itself, it was my first-ever camera, and I can say that I love the user interface, ease of use, and overall, the look of the images from Sony. I dug deep into what I wanted out of my first camera and three must haves were: Image quality, ease of use, and affordability. I primarily wanted a camera for video and the A7III fit for me, but I...

Sony FX3 Overview With Test Footage.

The new Sony FX3 is here! Jump into this quick overview with fellow filmmaker Julien Jarry as he walks us through two shoots he produced in an attempt to put a pre-production camera through its paces.

Sony FX3

Sony FX3.

New Cinematic Freedom.

Sony's FX3 Cinema Line camera brings the visions of passionate content creators to life. Cinematic expression is matched with reliable performance and streamlined operation to serve the needs of today's creative community. Compact and lightweight, it's easy to carry and handle.

Full Frame Image Capture, Even In Dim Light.

Full Frame Image Capture, Even In Dim Light.

The FX3's full-frame image sensor is coupled with innovative light-gathering techniques to let you capture clear and usable images even in dim light. The standard ISO sensitivity of 80–102400 for movies is expandable all the way up to 409600.

Wide Dynamic Range, Wider Dynamic Expression.

Wide Dynamic Range, Wider Creative Expression.

The FX3 offers an exceptional 15+ stops of dynamic range to handle settings ranging from well-lit interiors and outdoors in mid-day to morning and evening shots. Capture every nuance, and allow for unprecedented cinematic freedom in color grading.

Stunning Bokeh & Full Frame Creativity.

Stunning Bokeh & Full Frame Creativity.

Capture the scene in cinematic 4K resolution, with the shallow depth of field, stunning bokeh, and cinematic freedom made possible with a full-frame sensor.

Cinematic Color Science Of S-Cinetone.

S-Cinetone color, developed for Sony's acclaimed FX9, is the default look on the FX3 for cinematic expression. It's precisely tuned to meet the requirements of today's content creators, with rich color and natural skin tones that match other Cinema Line cameras without grading.

4K 120FPS With Every Frame In Focus.

Even at high frame rates, detailed 4K imagery is captured thanks to the FX3's high-precision AF and high-speed readout capabilities. Slow and Quick (S&Q) mode gives you full control over the shooting frame rate, for beautiful motion sequences at up to 5x slow motion (with 24p output).

10 Bit S-Log3 & HDR Recording For Smooth Gradiations.

S-Log3 gamma curve and S-Gamut3.Cine enable shooting with high-quality color reproduction over a wide dynamic range, and they make it easy to match up footage with shots from other Cinema Line cameras during post-production. In addition, an HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR picture profile enables direct HDR (HLG) playback on compatible TVs with no post-production.

10 Bit S-Log3 & HDR Recording For Smooth Gradiations.

16 Bit Raw HDMI Output.

For demanding post-production workflows, 16-bit RAW output is available over HDMI connection to compatible external recorders while XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, or XAVC S-I 4K and proxy files are simultaneously captured in-camera. RAW video output is 4264 x 2408 [16:9] resolution, exceeding DCI-4K resolution.

16 Bit Raw HDMI Output.

Enjoy Rich Color Detail & Realistic Color.

The FX3 is capable of 4K internal recording, 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 color sampling with All Intra on top of Long-GOP compression. This makes it possible to push your color grades further while still retaining natural gradation, for true editing freedom.

In Camera Image Stablization.

Active Mode is an optical in-body 5-axis image stabilization system that provides increased stabilization for movie shooting. To preserve image quality, the gyroscope sensor accurately measures camera shake and compensates optically. This makes stable video possible even when shooting hand-held without gimbal use, while walking, and at 4K resolution.

XLR Adapter & Digital Input For Quality Audio.

In addition to the camera's convenient built-in microphone, a variety of professional microphones can be connected externally via the full-size XLR connectors on the handle through a digital audio interface via Multi Interface (MI) Shoe. Three recording formats can be selected, including 24-bit 4-channel. Digital audio recording is also possible by attaching a digital microphone such as the ECM-B1M even when the handle is not used.

28241image14_80913.png

Dual High-Speed Media Slots.

Designed for next-generation filmmaking requirements, CFexpress Type A cards support high bit-rate recording. The camera's slots are ready for CFexpress Type A as well as conventional SDXC UHS-I and UHS-II cards, and having two identical media slots makes relay or backup shooting possible.

28241image15_73708.png

Remote Camera Control & Network Capture.

A network connection, via Wi-Fi or wired via a USB Type-C connector, provides support for remote control from smartphones or tablets, with either NFC one-touch or manual pairing. Remote shooting can be controlled from a PC with Sony's Imaging Edge Desktop™ application, or from a mobile device with Imaging Edge Mobile™. And captured still and movie files can be transferred using high-speed FTP.

Remote Preview, Shooting & Streaming.

Either wired or wireless remote shooting is available from a PC, or from a mobile device with Imaging Edge Mobile installed, for more efficient workflows and shooting in challenging environments. Imaging Edge Webcam enables high-image-quality online video communication.
