Does it improve picture quality? they should provide a number of pictures, rather than ease of use. If it does not improve the picture quality, it is completely useless even if it is easy to use.

Got this last year and thought my lens autofocus had gone. Nope. Works fine with my 7D. Then i learned that the R has no cross type focus sensors as all the dslr do. Only 2 mirrorless have it and not canon. Very disappointed. Will probably sell it at a loss. Slow inaccurate focus is useless for wildlife photography.

The best camera I have ever had. Simple and beautiful, love the big lens and the clear pictures, like the wide angle to short zoom. Great for in living room Christmas family shorts, then go outside and great shots of sky and naturals beauty. See a little woodpecker and zoom in and join him on the tree.

The EOS R is a fun camera to use, light weight with great image quality. The controls are similar to the other canon DSLR cameras with a minimal learning curve except for a few extra control buttons. I use the EOS R with my Canon 5d mark 3 and 6D and that covers my complete range and types of photography uses.

I love this camera. Defiantly an upgrade from my canon t3i. I love the real time changes on the setting and see exactly what my picture is going to look like before I click the button. works well for my real estate photography and portraits shoots

In the last 7 years I have progressed from the Canon SL1, to 77D, to the RP, now the EOS R. Each camera has been great, and each has been an improvement. The EOS R is clearly the best camera I have owned. I received the R this week, charged the battery, and went to a local park to shoot. It was dull light, late afternoon and quite breezy. I shot handheld, often using the touchscreen. I used the RF 35mm lens. My immediate impressions are that the R is clearly faster than the RP, the focus is fast and accurate, and the files are excellent to work with. If someone is thinking about moving to FF or upgrading, my opinion is to jump on this deal, the R is a terrific value.

Great Camera. After using Canon's APS-C cameras for years; 20D, 40D and a 70D. I finally wanted to migrate up to a full frame camera and L grade lenses. The EOS R mirrorless camera was the perfect solution. Larger sensor, better lens and a smaller camera all around. The Auto Focus takes some time to figure out but overall a great camera.

The Canon EOS R is so easy to use. It has everything you need to capture great images and at a great price. Viewing through the viewfinder is amazing with all the information provided right there. It's very intuitive. What more can I say.

Great deal. Some of the kits items I probably won't use but they were included while other companies didn't include the extras.

As of today, solid camera, lighter than some of DSLRs I own. I really like it and as I get used to it and if doesn?t disappoint, will up rating to a solid 5 *s! Love the flip out display that allows me to not have eye glued to viewfinder. I just have to play more with the settings and will be set. Definitely recommended! ????????

It was decent when it came out but it?s super outdated now. Not like it?s a bad camera, but I can?t see any reason to buy it anymore.

CAMERA: I have a Canon 5D Mark IV and just upgraded to the Canon EOS R, and I am pleased to say that it does not disappoint. It is so user friendly. I thought the controls might be quite different than my other camera but they weren't which made it so easy to use! It's super light, my old canon lenses worked well with the Canon lens Adaptor, and the images taken were super sharp. Very please indeed! TRIPOD:mVery cheap tripod, with spindly legs. I don't like that you have an extended central column, it makes it unstable. I'd get one of the other Packages and skip this tripod.

THE AMOUNT OF DETAIL IS FANTASTIC. THE COLORS ARE SO REALISTIC I BARELY HAVE TO DO ANY EDITING.ANOTHER THING I LIKE IS THE CONTROLS ARE SO WELL INTEGRATED AND EASY TO REACH FROM ONE PLACE IT ALMOST BECOMES INTUITIVE, A SUPURB CAMERA AND A GREAT PRICE.

This is a great camera, but it looks like Canon just listened to YouTube noise makers and not to the silent world by discontinuing DSLR cameras. The reasons and EVF is dark first and lights up, not necessarily to the correct brightness. The LCD screen goes blank at times. In the single point focus mode, the focus point is not small enough, therefore it often gets confused. In the eye focus mode, it misses eyes a number of times. The spot metering circle is too large, probably like partial area metering boxes rather than spot metering. Not sure by transforming to a mirrorless world, we have to compromise so many things. I am not particularly crazy about burst rate, since I don't shoot sports, but, so much automation is generally for photography challenged people, rather than experienced photographers. No offense meant to anyone. Other issues are if you leave the camera on, the sensor is constantly exposed and perhaps bad for life of sensor and it could destroy a few pixels. I am sure Canon's sensors are of high quality, and this is probably one of the advanced sensors, but the sensors if accidently exposed to constant bright light, could destroy. These is a warning about this in the manual. Therefore, I prefer DSLRs. I could list a number of things, but I was hoping for 5D Mark V and it certainly does not seem to be coming. Therefore my suggestion to Canon is to take a survey from its existing customers on what kind of products they would like, rather than listen to YouTubers.

This camera is amazing! It takes really great pictures in all types of light. I was able to capture great pictures of my daughters school play in a low light setting. And of course the pictures in natural sunlight are beautiful! I love this camera!

This camera is really great! I have wanted it for a while. So I new what I was expecting. But it is even better than that. It take great pictures in any light. Obviously natural sunlight is the best. But really great quality photos all around. I am really happy with my purchase!

A Great Decision

First, you should know that I suffer from a genetic abnormality common to many men of Scottish ancestry. I have deep pockets, but extraordinarily short arms. LOL. Spending money on a new camera is something that I don’t do lightly. I’ve also been in the Canon ecosystem for quite a few years now. My wife and I started with Rebel T3i’s some years ago, then moved to 80D’s for the past year or two. Between us, we’ve invested a significant amount of money in both EF and EFS lenses, and other Ca...

Excellent eye detection, lightening fast focusing
By TomH D.
I received this camera 12-2019. I've owned several full frame Canon's. The photos are all Canon color science with good detail, and consistently sharp focus. The mirrorless viewfinder is very good and helps a great deal in using exposure compensation compared to traditional mirror based view finders. I really like the FV mode as well. It's going to take me some time to transition from the 6D mk2 controls to the R but I'm getting there. Video is great in both HD and 4K. The digital stabilizati...

Hugh Brownstone of Three Blind Men and an Elephant Productions gives his overview of the newly announced full-frame mirrorless system. Shot in the Adorama Event Space.
Meet Canon's new addition to the EOS System, the EOS R camera. The foundation of this system is an entirely new lens mount, designed for optical excellence today and incredible optical potential for the future.
Canon’s first ever mirrorless camera, the EOS R, proves to be well worth the wait with its revolutionary features. Integrated into the camera is Canon’s brand-new RF lens mount, which allows the EOS R to support a new series of lenses and highly advanced optical technologies. It also features a 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a powerful DIGIC 8 Image Processor that provide ultra high-definition 4K (3840x2160p) videos at 30fps, a wide ISO sensitivity range of up to 40000, and highly-detailed 30MP still images at up to 8 frames per second. Matching its UHD video recording capabilities are the built-in Canon Log gamma for greater dynamic range and distortion correction during Movie Digital IS. Accurate focusing is made possible with Focus Peaking, Dual Pixel Focus Guide, and the Dual-Pixel CMOS AF system, which boasts an autofocus speed of 0.05 seconds, a bigger focus area of 88x100 percent, 5,655 manually selectable AF points, and a rack focusing feature (Touch and Drag AF) using the swiveling 3.15-inch 2.1m-dot rear touchscreen LCD. Aside from these high-performance features, you also get a clear, hi-res 3.69m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a customizable Multi-Function bar that allows you to adjust camera settings more intuitively.
Whether you’re purchasing your first EOS camera or your fifth, the EOS R camera is designed to integrate smoothly into existing EOS systems. Engineered to work seamlessly with RF lenses, it maintains complete compatibility with EF and EF-S lenses by using one of three optional Mount Adapters. When using EF-S lenses, the EOS R even crops automatically to reflect the APS-C sized sensor the lenses are designed for.
* Optional Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is required when using EF/EF-S lenses with an EOS R camera.
The RF mount on the EOS R camera has a large, 54mm internal diameter that enables impressive handling and provides increased flexibility for lens design. And thanks to the camera’s mirrorless design, the lens’s rear element can be much closer to the image plane. This reduced back focus distance, combined with the RF mount’s 54mm diameter, helps facilitate lenses of stellar optical quality and stunning performance while enabling innovative compact camera and lens designs.
All RF lenses feature a 20mm flange focal distance, which is the distance from the lens mount to the surface of the image sensor. This flange focal distance balances the benefits of short back focus with the engineering requirements necessary for mount stability. Accordingly, the RF mount’s flange focal distance ensures excellent optical performance while maintaining the mount rigidity and camera durability necessary for real-world operation.
With a robust 12 pin connection between the camera and the lens, the EOS R camera and RF lenses are able to communicate at a higher speed, transmitting a larger amount of data and information for incredibly fast AF, plus enhanced image stabilization and optimization.
Beyond enabling use of EF and EF-S lenses on the EOS R camera, the Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R and the Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R add functions that open up a number of new possibilities for creative image capture. The Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R adds a control ring like those found on RF lenses, providing the same level of control to your EF and EF-S lenses and supporting the same setting configuration regardless of lens. The Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R enables compatibility with EF and EF-S lenses and includes drop-in filter capability for use with circular polarizing filters or variable ND filters. This enhancement enables compatibility with numerous lenses regardless of their front diameter, and makes filter use possible with lenses like the ultra-wide EF 11¬–24mm f/4L USM lens or the tilt-shift TS-E 17mm f/4L lens which cannot accept a filter on the front.
Mount adapters, such as the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, deliver seamless connections between the EOS R camera and EF and EF-S lenses with all functions intact. Offering L series level weather and dust sealing, the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is even compatible with EF extenders like the Extender EF 1.4x III to extend your camera’s optical reach. With an entire arsenal of EF and EF-S lenses at your disposal, the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R and other mount adapters ensure endless creative possibilities for the EOS R camera.
