Good for sports and events but does not have the clarity that my Z lens have. It is a heavy beast!

It may be that it is my unit, but I am not too crazy about the sharpness of my pictures with this lens. i have a D750 and a D500 and I have this issue with both cameras. It is soft all across the zoom range. Very heavy. You need to use it with a tripod to get the best results.

As expected this lens is fantastic. Of course I'd love to try the latest version but not at the significant cost to upgrade. This VRII version suits me well. replaced the zoom rubber once. After about 15 sports gigs that required frequent zooming, it syretched out a bit. Maintainance costs.

Shoot mostly indoor volleyball of my kids teams. This lens makes life much easier for me. I've used it on my old Nikon D750 and now on the Nikon D500. The crop sensor took a little getting used to, however, still a fantastic lens.

I owned the previous VR I lens. Unfortunately it was destroyed in a freak accident... so I immediately ordered the current version. This lens has fantastic sharpness, it focuses quickly and is easily hand held at some pretty slow shutter speeds. Even though I have several excellent Nikon lenses, the 70-200mm continues to be hands down, the best of all of them. It is just a great lens.

just play with it in one day. I recommend everyone new to this also want to buy, make sure try the weight first. maybe you would need the f4 one which should be much lighter. I even worry it break my D750 body interface sometime if I just hold the camera body without left hand holding the lens. Do I need to ?

This is an expensive lens, but it delivers great results. Sometimes Nikon lens are the best overall value, sometimes it is the third party lens makers with the best overall value. In this focal range, I think the Nikon is the best value and I'm very happy with my purchase, despite the steep price to entry.

Lens has been good so far. I use it for mostly sports photos for a newspaper. Only problem is its a bit longer than my last lens, so I might need to get a new bag.

I dreamed of this lens a long time before I pulled the trigger. If you are sitting on the fence like I was, pull the trigger, you will not regret it! The night shots with existing light are out of this world.

Awesome lens! Very sharp in all focal lengths. You can tell a big difference in sharpness with the vibration reduction. Excellent for low light shooting when you can't get too close to subject.

I was renting this lens for 98% of my shoots, and I finally bit the bullet and picked up one of my own. It is the BEST lens out there! The only downside is it's weight, but I can live with that. Although I will say it feels a bit heavier now that I'm paying it off ;)

This was a pretty popular post in Joe McNally's blog last year, so with his permission, we're running it again in the Adorama Learning Center, in time for the Fourth of July. Have a great week and stay safe!
We asked our Facebook and Twitter friends which lenses were their favorites for portrait photography. Here's what we learned.
The Nikon D7100 is an impressive camera. As you get to know it, you may want to add accessories to help you get the kinds of photos you are passionate about. Here are four possible kits for four (or five) different uses.
Excellent Lens. Nikon has done it again
By Eddie
I just received this lens a couple of days ago so I haven't been able to test it extensively, but so far the results far exceeds the previous version of this lens. I still feel that the Image Quality of the original VR lens is outstanding and it should be considered in your decision making. The VR II is a definite improvement. I have been able to shoot at 1/20 shutter speed without any visible motion blur. I am planning on shooting more weddings and events. The VR II on the new lens will...

Great Lens
By Dean G.
After using this lens now for almost 2 months, I am very pleased with the purchase. I was contemplating purchasing the VRI when this lens was announced, and I am glad I waited. This lens has exceeded my expectations. Sharpness is exceptional, compared to the previous model. Auto-focus is very fast. Low light capability is excellent. The quality and sharpness of the images is great, even at f 2.8. Zoom and focus rings are smooth and work flawlessly. The vibration reduction is one stop...

The Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G AF-S VR II Nikkor ED-IF is a fast telephoto zoom lens optimized for full-frame Nikon DSLRs. With a continuous wide aperture of f/2.8, the latest version of Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR II) system, quiet autofocus, and updated lens coating technologies, this next-generation lens is ideal for professional photographers and videographers. It will work with both film and digital Nikon cameras, and is compatible with both FX (full-frame) and DX (APS sensor) DSLRs. With this lens, Nikon has now updated its entire pro zoom lineup, which includes the AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED and AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED models, with pro-level coverage from 14-200mm focal lengths with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture.
What you should know about this lens:
Outstanding lens elements: The 70-200mm f/2.8 G AF-S VR II features 7 ED (Extra-low dispersion) elements to provide outstanding sharpness and accurate color rendering, and minimizing chromatic aberration at all apertures. A Nano Crystal Coat promotes even greater clarity by reducing ghosting and flare. Finally, Nikon's proprietary Super Integrated Coating (SIC) also reduces flare and improves light transmission and color accuracy.
Second-Gen image stabilization: The lens uses Nikon VR II vibration reduction, which promotes handheld shooting at up to 4 shutter speeds slower. It has two modes: Normal (reduces ordinary camera shake and panning) and Active (reduces extreme camera shake including shooting from a moving vehicle).
Great Bokeh: A rounded 9-blade diaphragm renders out of focus areas of the image more naturally and shows rounded specular highlights.
Quiet and fast AF: Autofocus is powered by the exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM). Focus is fast, accurate, and quiet, making this an ideal lens for HD video as well as still photography. The focus is accomplished internally, so the length of the lens doesn't change while focusing. Minimum focus is 4.5 feet. Manual focus override is available.
