This Canon grip is expensive when bought new. There are many far cheaper copies but not the same quality. I bought this Canon battery grip used using the rating system that suggested it was as new. The cost was 1/3 of the new retail price, a signifcant savings. Had to watch listings until a good used grip was available but worth the wait.

This grip gives you more to hold on to if you have big hands and long fingers. I've not had any issue with my grip not firing. My camera always fire in any position along with extra battery power to give you that all day working ability. This grip is a great additions to my gear!.

This grip is rather heavy which I find useful when using the 18-200 zoom. I am quite happy with the extra battery life with two batterys in the cold. This grip helps hold the camera when shooting at 25-30 degrees below with heavy gloves on. It is possible to place a hand warmer between the batterys and use camera at -50 degrees for longer than I care to be outside.

I nearly lost a double rainbow over Mono Lake to a low battery. It was the last light of a long day. That is when I decided to purchase the battery grip for the purpose of having two batteries for a full day of shooting. I never go out without the grip and two batteries. In addition it comes with an adaptor to use AA batteries in an emergency. I also cover day long activities for grade school kids at church. My instructions are to cover as much as possible and I have never come close to running out of power. An added benefit for me and my large hands is the added surface to hold the camera. It does add some extra weight but the camera fits my hand much better with the grip.

One of the most important accessories you will buy. The BG-E2N truly raises comfortabilty when shooting portraits. I also like the balance the grip adds when shooting with long lenses on my 50D (hand-held or tripod mounted). The BG-E2N also holds an extra battery allowing you to shoot twice as many shots as with one battery.

When reviewing 3rd party battery grips there was always the comments about poor quality so once I decided that I needed a battery grip, the obvious choice was the Cannon brand. I have not looked back since. I purchased the extra battery at the same time and there seems to be endless power, great for when on holiday. The grip fits confortably in the hand for portraits. On my 50D I have swamped the functions of the AF-ON button with the FE lock button, which means that the grip now has a AF-ON function. This was a great purchase, well worth the money.

I consider this as a critical addition to my 7d. Eliminates concern about changing batteries during a shoot, and makes vertical shooting comfortable. I wasn't bothered by shooting vertical shots without the grip, didn't think I needed a vertical grip until I tried a fellow shooter's. It's so ergonomically comfortable, and provides ease of use when flipping the camera from horizontal to vertical. Don't wait. Get it. Adds weight, but so what. Benefit far exceeds detriment.

I use my camera everyday,so I need to know that I won't run out of battery power, even if I forget to recharge them. So far, I have seen a weak battery signal and sometimes I shoot several basketball or football games in the same day.

I could sum this purchase up in three words 'a must have'! If you are marginally serious about photography; a battery grip should be an essential part of your gear bag. And buying the manufacturers' original part is (IMO) the best choice! I made the mistake of owning an after market (cheap version) BG. Three months of heavy use and the rubber began to seperate from the unit. A month later it was completely uncovered. Not exactly the professional image one should be projecting! You get what you pay for! This grip does add weight of course, but it's insignificant if you are use to working with top-shelf glass. I love it because it gives a counter-weight for the 24-70mm 2.8 & my Sigma 50-135mm 2.8 lens. The added benefits of stability, shooting longer without changing batteries and not having to flex your wrist in awkward position (carpal tunnel), makes this a perfect purchase. Stay away from the third party versions. They're just not worth the hassle!

Long battery life. Versatile to allow you to use 1 or 2 BP-511A batteries or 6 AA batteries. Purchase an extra AA battery tray to allow quick swaps when your running low on power. Should be a mandatory purchase with any camera.

I bought this to use for taking pictures of my kids in their sports. I love it. It gives a great grip to the camera and makes taking vertical pictures so much easier and faster. Really glad I finally decided to get this.

I like this grip for my portrait photography. I can rest my elbows into my stomach for a solid anchor to make my images sharper. I could not do this before with one arm up in the air!!

Purchased the battery grip mainly for portrait and vertical shots. It is not something I would use on a daily basis for casual shooting because it does add more weight to the camera. It helps balance the weight when I have my Canon 24-70 mm lens on because the lens is so heavy.

Product works great!!! I thought it was strange that it came with an international warranty, not a USA warranty.

I have purchased prior models of the grips in the past for other cameras. I purchased this for my 40d. It does not work well with my existing stroboframe and adds a good deal of weight to my camera.

The grip meets all expectations that I bought the unit for. Only a couple of items keep it from being a 5 star. One is that it has an on/off switch. Canon should have designed the grip to come on when you turn the main camera on. Second, you can see daylight between the grip and the camera (50d) when attached. This concerns me for it creates an area for dirt/dust/moisture to accumulate. Canon should have designed a perimeter on the grip to address this issue.

I'd been looking for an extended battery with a second trigger & option buttons for quite a while for Canon 20D. The BG-E2N fit all my requirements. Works great with the body and makes adjustments quickly (no sluggish response from the added buttons). It's also a nice feature to have the on/off switch solely for those buttons as well (and seems to save battery life when switched off). My only complaints/reason for it not getting the full 5 stars is that when using the AA battery tray (houses 6 AA batteries) I barely get 150 pictures out of each (200 in a sitting is low for me)... which clearly gets expensive. Once I switched to 2 Canon batteries, that issue was solved and I have no other complaints. I love it! Wish there was a 4.5 stars ratings!

The extra battery sure is nice. It's also nice, when using a larger lense, like my 200-500 mm Tamron, to always have a good solid grip in a comfortable position.

I've always been happier with the convenience and feel of a vert grip. This one is great-thoughtful design to house the regular battery cover inside the grip. Love it!

I am a semi-pro photographer and the Canon BG-E2N Battery Grip was the best purchase for my Canon EOS 40d.

Use this battery grip on my Canon EOS-50D along with the 500mm f/4 lens and the extra weight of the grip gives a more centered balance on my Wimberley Head, not to mention I can go a whole day without having to swap out my battery.

I shoot sports (mainly gymnastics) as well as nature, portrait, candid, etc. and the Canon BG-E2N Battery Grip is a God-send. Now I don't have to crane my arm over or bend my wrist under into uncomfortable positions to shoot portrait mode. The weekend after receiving the grip I shot 1200 frames at my daughters regional gymnastics meet in ergonomic comfort and had battery life to spare. This is worth every penny. It fit perfectly without any contact issues that I have read about with the off-brand models. I was originally going to buy an off-brand but the reviews weren't too encouraging. So I stuck with Canon and am 100% satisfied. All the buttons and controls match the feel of my 30D which is important so you don't miss a shot. It does add size and weight to the camera but it more than makes up for it with its versatility and performance. And for me, it is actually more comfortable to hold in landscape mode but even more so in portrait as it adds some bulk to he grip in that mode. I also like that the details, the feel and the textures match my 30D body. This is an excellent grip and should be at the top of the accessories purchase list even before a good flash. Highly recommended!

Nice piece of equipment. Adds to the size considerably. I added mine to a Canon 50D which adds to the weight quite a bit. Pros: *Makes shooting "portrait" style photos more natural; *Adds significant amount of gripping surface; *extends the amount of photos you can take (with two batteries installed; *can be used with a single B-511 battery or six AA batteries *Very well made, feels VERY solid on the 50D Cons: *Weight (what do you expect when you add an accessory?) *Does not have the AF button that is needed for the live view mode on the 50D *A bit pricey In conclusion, a good accessory if you have long shooting sessions where you switch from landscape to portrait style of shooting. If you are an occasional user, it may be a bit extreme to get this grip. If you choose to buy this grip, you'll be pleased.

The BG-E2N battery grip replaces the B-E2. The improved grip is weather-resistant and intended to be matched with the weatherproof EOS-40Dand 50D. The grip is also reverse compatible with the 30D and 20D. The battery grip can accept one or two BP-511 batteries to double the shooting capacity. The BG-E2N also accepts six AA batteries with an optional tray.
