I needed to upgrade my old Onkyo TX-SR 506 because of damage in a move to a small apartment. I wanted another Onkyo 5.1 receiver since I have been a loyal Onkyo user for over 30 years. My apartment is small, so this particular model fit all the categories for me. When I did a search on this model, Adorama had an excellent condition open box with all original packaging so I thought I would take a chance. I was cautious about purchasing this as an open box unit, but caution was unnecessary It arrived today and I am astounded by its condition. It took less than 15 minutes to set up and I am incredibly impressed by its functionality and sound. This has almost all the bells and whistles you could want. I am running my Fire TV through HDMI 1 (HDMI-CEC) and HDMI-ARC to my LG TV. The unit is beautiful and sounds incredible. It pushes my Polk speakers (TX20s) with an extraordinary base response that my SR506 did not. I strongly recommend this unit for a smaller listening space like a living room or den. I have been into surround sound since the late 80's and this unit does not disappoint.

I bought it as an upgrade to my bedroom audio/video system. The setup was very straightforward and allowed to optimize the sound in the room using the microphone included in the package. I connected the following devices to the receiver: a Toshiba TV, a LG blue ray player, an Amazon Fire TV stick, a Roku streaming player, and a Grace Digital internet radio. The receiver currently works in a simple stereo configuration with a pair of small but powerful Klipsch speakers (R41M). The sound quality is very good, and the power is more than sufficient for the bedroom. The look of the receiver is average. The volume control knob seems somewhat too large and is made of plastic, which feels a little cheap. Overall, however, the receiver offers a great value to price ratio.

The sound for a streaming movie is great with the Dolby mode. I have two infinity speakers that are driven by the amp. Set up was easy with the given microphone. The sound from external Bluetooth connection from my phone was obviously not that great due to the compressed format. The sound from the CD player via the RCA input are decent when using the stereo mode. Overall it's a good budget based amp. For a smaller space the power would obviously be ample, for a larger TV room of 20* 20*10 feet*3, you may want to go with an amp that has more power.

It?s a great ?first? receiver, or in my case a great ?kids room? receiver. Not that there?s anything at all wrong with the 393, just that what it does have is the minimum to do it?s job. For instance, instead of binding posts for all, it has spring clips for most of the the speaker wires. So don?t plan on using 12 gauge wires, and specifically you can?t use banana plugs for anything other than the front left and right and the center channel. With only 80 watts it?s not capable of driving larger speakers, especially if you divide up that power between 7 speakers. I combined mine with the Klipsch Reference Theater 5.1 kit and it sounds great. These speakers are just the right size for this receiver and a small room. Overall four stars for doing what it does well.

First thing I had to go on line for manual. not compatible with pioneer CD & cassette players. I have to push some button on remote to change radio stations. to go from one preset to another I have to go through the complete order of presets. Maybe I rated it to high with 2 stars

Bought this to replace an 11 year old Onkyo. Very happy with this one. Setup was a breeze. The only unfortunate part is that my old plasma TV is not HDCP 2.2 compliant so I used the ARC workaround. Still works great. Sound and features are excellent and works with my old speaker set.

I had to replace my 1993 Onkyo that my dad gave me. Adoroma shipped this fast and I?m very happy with the receiver. We had to get an IR extender so the remote would work with it positioned to the side and turned away though. Definitely easier than the older model to hook up to all our gaming systems, speakers, subwoofer, tv, etc. Would be super psyched if it lasts as long as my first model!!

It is great for movies, sports, or just listening to the radio. It's hooked up to Klipsch speakers which is an amazing pairing. Only using the 5.1 currently but soon will be 5.2 and I can't wait.

After over 2 months on back order, the box is still unopened, but I'm sure that based on the excellent condition of the packaging and description of the features on the box - everything arrived as advertised. We'll see when I eventually plug it in.

Great basic surround sound receiver. Presets are good and the set up mic makes for ease of room set up. To do fine tuning the unit cuts off the sound. So you have to do adjustments then go back and re listen, makes for a lot of back and forth.

Onkyo recievers are by far one of the best values for the money. I'm watching the NFL playoffs on my TX-SV 70 PRO right now and the matrix surround sound still puts me at the game! And it's at least 28 years old! Gave the SR 393 to our son as a gift and it's his first reciever, he loves it! Fast shipping great customer service and price. What's not to like. We've been purchasing cameras, lenses and electronics from Adorama for almost 40 years. The best.
