Leica did a good job designing a replacement for their R series cameras. It is unfortunate that they took so many years to do so. The SL is the natural progression from their R body film cameras, but they listened to the marketing people and added features that the typical Leica buyer doesn’t want. Auto Exposure, P mode are for beginners taking snap shots; beginners don’t buy $11,000 camera w/lens. Photographers want and need to manually control their shots. Yes, you can select manual exposure and MF, but AF/AE are built into the camera and you are paying a premium for unnecessary, unwanted features. The SL lenses are bright and fast, but the AF (just like Nikon, Canon, etc) isn’t perfect, not can it ever be because the computer trying to guess what you are doing. I prefer MF and manual exposure with an in camera meter for reference. Instead of following the herd and listening to the marketing people (who are wrong more often than correct), Leica should have stuck to the basics.

Thank you Adorama for bring Christmas early. I primarily purchased the SL to do low projects with my collection Leica lens that shoot fast and handle well in low lights, I have the Noctilux .95, 21mm f 1.4, 75 f 1.4 and the 50 f.14. This camera is a perfect marriage in many ways with the M series lens. I have been tested it on a few places where my project called for very low with movement. Mainly a Zydeco Dance Hall moving swirling, twirling and moving to the accordion driven music of South Louisiana. The 21 and .95 have proven to be the kings of the low two step so far. EVF on the SL is amazaing as advertised. No need for glasses but if you do wear them it's still no problem at all. Christmas has come early for me and looks like it will last at least another full year with this in my SL in my hands. Will think about trying the SL lens at some point but my first love with Leica products have been working with manual M9 and rangefinder lens for many years so going to just enjoy possiblity at hand. Thank you Leica this baby is real and worth price.

Very versatile camera. M lenses make it a great travel camera. Built like a Pro Camera should be.

You might expect mirrorless, or Leica, but this is a whole new breed. The IQ is stunning, makes every lens sing just that little bit more with very film-like rendering. The EVF is sharp, big and bright- maybe the first that I'd be willing to shoot on weddings because of the double cards, speed, and ease of focusing- plus a ton of new AF adapters coming soon. Worth every penny.
