Peerless

I was so impressed with the features an performance of this receiver purchased earlier this month, I bought a second one; received yesterday! Having owned AV receivers from several brands, I'm convinced that this receiver is a cut above, in almost every category. An absolutey stunning offering from Yamaha.

An Outstanding AV Receiver!

I recently purchased this receiver, and I am glad I did. Setup was a breeze. I can't believe how well this receiver performs. The sound reproduction is second to none, having owned several other brands to compare The YPAO calibration elevates my speakers performance, and the various sound fields are something to experienced! I also own a receiver with Dirac, and after listening to the calibration results of the A4A, I can honestly state; Dirac is overrated.... Take the plunge and buy this receiver!

An excellent audio product

I have owned my first Aventage RX-A4A for four years and love it. I started using it as the main home theater receiver but now I use it as a preamp and signal processor with a Monolith power amplifier to drive my speakers. It has a decent DAC for my use and the All-Channel stereo mode provides a very immersive music experience, much better than just stereo mode. It has good flexibility for interconnecting to my TV and other equipment. I use it primarily for listening to HD FLAC music from my NAS using the MusicCast feature that makes it easy to access all my content on the NAS. I also use it for watching HD movies and that works well also. It supports dual subwoofers and has 2 trigger outputs for subwoofers or power amps. Did I mention that it's built like a tank? How much do I like it? I just bought a second one for another music/home theater project I'm working on. If you need a 5 or 7 channel receiver this should be at the top of your list.

This Makes All The Difference

I'd owned an Onkyo for years and years, and I was satisfied. But instead of satisfied, I wanted to be excited again about my sound. I bought an RX-A2A. The sound was absolutely wonderful. But the menu system was really slow and the HDMI switching was problematic. I swapped it and went extra with an RX-A4A. It was more than I'd wanted to spend. But this thing is phenomenal!! Right out of the box, the sound gave me goosebumps! The menus are much more responsive. They are also reconfigured for much easier setup. And the HDMI switching is flawless. AI Surround, not available with the A2A, is awesome! I love everything about this receiver. Please be sure to take advantage of the web-based setup app. It makes setup so much faster and more refined for a device with so many options. Of course, the unit cost more than I'd planned to spend. And it's a little too large for my component rack. But it's found a home here. Love it!

almost perfect

Almost perfect for me. Very good sound quality (with dali option), neutral sound, Easy to set I think, but menu a little complicated. it works with music cast, I can listen music from my iPhone, Macbook and other. But not everything works good. When I change source or change tv canal it disconnect and it take few seconds to find signal. this disadvantage appear after one update. The second thing is online service, it's mad. when I want to contact with them I need to fill form where I write I have a problem with amplituner. I always get answer that they are music instruments department and they can't help. And the other problem is with music cast, it Always set music for lowest volume, other thing when I want to connect room it switch off music, so connected room doesn't work. So it needs a little bit to perfection.

Excellent Sound and Functionality!

Great sound provided by the power to drive 2 large KEF R11s and Q250C center speakers. The setup was quick, and pretty much mirrored my previous Yamaha receiver. I would add another star if the receiver would "remember" the last Sound Program or if a program could be assigned to a connected device.

Nice sound and Options

Looks fantastic and great options. Two negatives are the depth and the lack of a manual for all the setup options. Way too hard to go to the computer or phone to try to figure out set up. Nice two zone sound but the older setup was easier.

Solid monolith with great sound

We bought this unit to replace a pretty old Harmon Kardon surround unit and an NAD C3050 that was doing stereo duty. I bought the NAD because the HK didn't have a good phono amp built in. When the HK finally bit the dust, I sold the NAD to put towards an all-in-one (surround sound and stereo music) solution in the RX-A4A. Wow! Not only does it look beautiful but it sounds amazing. Plenty of power. The hookup to our network for streaming and bluetooth were easy peezy. We are running the RX through a pair of vintage JBL L-100's with custom crossovers that sit atop a pair of 10" Pure Sound subs. Magic 3D sound. I also love the Yamaha app and playing with the different concert auditoriums when playing live tracks. All-in-all I'm super satisfied.

Outstanding So Far

MONUMENTALLY better than the Onkyo TX-SR805 it replaced for both music and movies. Sound setup / room profile setup did wonders and has great flexibility to cut or add certain frequencies. The subwoofer output / LFE is now what I would expect.

I don't need all the bells and whistles, but worth it!

I got this as a Christmas gift from my wife. All I wanted was a 2 channel system and I got the most beautiful sounding piece of equipment I've ever owned. This thing's got all the connections I need for all of my analog and digital equipment, while replicating the sound remarkably well.

Wonderfully made receiver

This is an excellent product. It os great for music and movies. I highly recommend it for versatility. I have a tv, xbox, DAC, bluray player and turntable hooked up to it. The FM radio works great. It is highly customizable and the MusicCast app is incredibly easy to use.

Immersive sound

I've had Yamaha receivers since the 70's. The only reason I've ever replaced one is to keep up with the current technology. In, I still my first three. Never had any issues with any of them. I expect the A4A will be just as dependable.

Excellent unit!

Very pleased with the AVR. I primarily use for music listening however also enjoy occasional home theatre/movies using excellent sounding unit. The number of pre established (DSPs) to manage sound configurations are way more that I need and I view as excessive. However, this I not a negative issue. Relatively easy set up with guide as a helpful tool.

Always Yamaha

I finally upgraded my RX-V1600. I looked long and hard at other comparable brands but ultimately decided to stick with Yamaha. Build quality is as expected. Features are what I wanted. I was hesitant on the new look of this receiver. Once I got it installed and set up, I was pleasantly surprised. So far, YPAO and the new AI Surround format have dramatically increased the overall sound experience with my system. My only gripe is the 110 watts. I would've preferred 120-125 but I don't always listen at loud volumes and even when I have, this receiver still performed. Once Yamaha, Always Yamaha.

Great sound, great picture, great flexibility. The set up instructions sneed to be improved and they should be more detailed since set up was not intuitive

Amazing Sound Quality

We have a home theater setup with 5 speakers and a base unit. We just love the new RX-A4A, the sound quality is so vibrant. The highs and lows (base) is just so clear.

Lack of power and sound quality reduced rating

Easy to set up. Customer service good. Not the best sound quality even after trying manual adjustments. Volume starts at 0 and goes 98. No audible sound until the lows 30s and can raise up to the 50s and still have a conversation with others in the room. This is indicative of the lack of power. My living room isn't huge so not a real problem but if you have a large room, you'll want something more powerful. The music programs (hall, chamber, cellar, etc., make music sound horrible. The video programs (drama, action, sports, etc.,) don't add anything. I basically use All Channel Stereo for music and Surround Decoder for everything else. All other programs are superfluous. If I hadn't gotten on sale and my last AVR receiver was discontinued, I would have returned it. I will say I purchased a Denon 2700 and returned it. The sound was very tinny. I then went to a Magnolia store and listed to the high end Denons and Marantz options and they were just as bad as the Denon I purchased.

Left but came back

Had a Yamaha AVR X471 and bought a Denon 2500H. Something was missing, I went back and purchased an A4A and love it. Everything is better, Sound, running temp power, except remote functions better on Denon. #sweepstakes

Left but came back

Well built, excellent sound extreme value. Sounds amazing compared to my Denon 2500H. Pros - Sound (detail, soundstage), power and runs cooler. Cons - Only one - cannot adjust bass/treble or equalize from the remote without having the AVR functions displayed on the TV. I don't use cell phone apps.

Great sound, good build quality, but UI an issue.

First of all my beloved Yamaha RX-V2095 HT Receiver died after 20 years of faithful service so I naturally looked for Yamaha for a replacement and the RX-A4A seemed like the best fit. And luckily it had the same solid build quality and sound as my predecessor. But man the stripped down UI and the involved convoluted remote is an issue. I also have an issue about labeling?why define modes of operation as "Scenes" instead of "Modes" and we are pass-through modes called "Straight" instead of "pass-through?" And the remote needs to rethought out with fewer more clearly thought out pathways and labeling. It is to confusing to set-up with the lack of a manual and this is coming from someone with an engineering degree. I think Yamaha needs to take a few lessons from Apple and to spend time seeing how things are perceived from a customer viewpoint.

Room for improvement

Sounds good and feels well built. Love the MusicCast app and it usually works as expected other than occasionally not finding the receiver. Unfortunately, the onscreen user interface and menu structure is awful. Looks like it's 20 years old. Not at all intuitive to find things.

I would probably either buy the yamaha a6a. Addiction. Lol

I do have a home theater room but I did not pull the trigger for the yamaha a6a for the dual sub separate connection plus the power increase.

Yes, I would buy this product again and again!!!

Just Love that I can turn the Yamaha on by the app on my phone and play Spotify or anything else!!! Modern technology!!! I was able to find the EQ and adjust quickly without looking at the manual! My last receiver was a Denon AVR-3311CI with .01 total harmonic distortion and 125 watts/channel! It took me over 6 months to get the sound EQ to my liking and read the manual over and over again with notes on the pages for the changes, very frustrating! I was so impressed how easy it was on the Yamaha and the Sound is fantastic, so easy to adjust the sound on every speaker, adjust the EQ without looking at the manual!!! So glad to I went back to Yamaha! I have an old Yamaha in the garage I use for the backyard! I had to replace the old Yamaha was because of no HDMI!

Sounds great but has glitchy 4k 60/120 pass through

Sounds great particularly for stereo sound. Does have glitchy 4k 60/120 pass through on my one and have had to reset and reload presets a couple of times. Hoping will be dealt with in firmware.

Very happy with product. I'd buy again.

This was an upgrade from an older Yahama home theater receiver. I needed one with 4K HDMI. The 7.1 is more than I'll need.
