Pair of these are left and right supposedly in used condition excellent let me tell you they were unused and excellent. They have more than exceeded my expect ations they came in were well seasoned so to speak but the speakers were in perfect condition and had never been used. Kudos to Adorama for his excellent delivery of an excellent product.

I A/B tested these with Klipsch RP, Jamos, and Polk XT70s, which are more or less the same price as these D17s on sale. It was not a close comparison by any stretch. The D17s have a better sound stage, are more articulate and precise, and thanks to the Passive woofers they can dig deep and make the use of a sub optional (I use a sub when watching a movie). At less than $1000 for the pair, I doubt that there is a better speaker on the market, or may ever be a better speaker on the market when compared directly against the D17s. And the finish is absolutely beautiful. The piano gloss exterior contrasted with the brushed aluminum, and Dart Vader style woofers all make for an incredibly high quality and impressive setup.

If you want the best from these D17's, you need an AVR with some serious grunt or an Integrated Amp or power amplifier that is recommended per the manual. I own both the Denon X4300H & the X4500H. With these Def Techs connected to the X4300H, I almost returned them. The overall sound was lack luster & little dull in the mid-range & no control in the treble, but yet very clear & transparent. The bass is good & seems to run below 35hz which is good for an sealed enclosure. I kept the Demand D17's when I connected them to the X4500H. On paper, the X4300H & the X4500H are identical, but that's where the similarity ends. I swapped the 4300 with the 4500 & now the sound is more alive, fuller with control from top to bottom. Sound stage was vast on both AVR's, but the 4500 takes this up a notch in my opinion. The bass is tight, a bit extended to the point I had to drop the bass from 0 to -1 on the bass setting to even the sound out. The mid-range is light years ahead of the Triangle BR08. I own the BR08 & the Wharfedale Diamond 230. If you like, acoustic drums, snares, cymbals, percussion & the like, these things kicks ass. Dialog is just as good & legible as the Diamond 230, but far more clear & transparent with what appears to be no coloration in the sound. With the right gear & placement, Movies, shows & music is a pure joy on these Demand D17 speakers. The Wharfedale's were my favorites, but now the D17 is the new king in my house. I got these used from Adorama for a cheap price, but I recommend you spend extra & get these new in the OEM packaging to avoid shipping mishaps & damage to the speakers?

Sophisticated sound and superb quality, for audiophiles. My Dad taught me well. Since a young boy he'd configure his stereo system anytime he'd buy a new component; he'd play a jazz record and have me close my eyes to listen in on where the different instruments and vocals were coming from. It was thrilling. I did this with these D17 speakers (added the D5c center) - and the sound is both immersive and nostalgic.

Just got into Hi-FI listening. The sound is great, however I will need to purchase a subwoofer. I found the bass to be underwhelming for these speakers given the side bass radiators.

Just got into Hi-FI listening. I could not pass up the deal of $1400/pair. The sound is great, however I will need to purchase a subwoofer. I found the bass to be underwhelming for these speakers given the side bass radiators.

First the packaging was impressive (reminded me of Apple products). Once connected the sound was everything I expected from the DT family of speakers. The previous 8020's these replaced were good however these D17's are much cleaner sounding and the cabinets seem very high quality. Very pleased with the dealer direct purchase and especially the center speaker offer.

I'm a first time buyer of Def Tech speakers. Was looking for high quality speakers for over a year and I found these speakers during Christmas holiday deal. These speakers sound excellent and have a warm texture to the sound allowing me to listen for longer periods of time without any ear fatigue. Sound impressions were stunning when watching HD action movies. The build quality of these speakers is amazing with so much attention to detail. The white speakers (D17s and Center speaker) that I bought look super classy and elegant. A subwoofer might be required to get some bass extension for movies. Overall, I'm loving these speakers and planning to keep them for a long time.

After owning the D11's and D7's, it was time to go for the towers. These towers are as the title suggests, real works of art. The glossy finish is gorgeous and will complement any space. The magnetic grills are very strong, but are also very easy to take off, and it's strangely fun to pop them off and "click" them back on. I love the solid aluminum front baffle, and the carbon drivers are eye candy. The side firing woofers are so nice to look at, and the solid aluminum bases provides great support, and again, are another piece of the artistic appeal. The sound of these speakers is just jaw dropping. Listening to Billie Eilish's Bassonova (Marantz SR8015 receiver-gem, the D17's present a huge soundstage, with effortless highs and nuanced, musical and accurate bass. Vocals are airy and have that Definitive magic, where the artist seems to be in the room, which you need to experience to believe. And that bass, OMG, it is so deep and powerful, while subs will always round things out, these have bass to spare. Definitive have created magic with these towers. I look forward everyday to firing these things up and seeing what they can do. If you're in the market for towers and these are in your range, you owe it to yourself to audition them. photos to come..

Just got my D17s last week along with the D5c and a set of D9s for the rears. I have the D17s bi-amped with the Yamaha RX-A2080 and i must say im very impressed! My favorite movie so far to watch with this system has been Ford vs Ferrari. Listening to that Ford Gt and Ferrari scream down the straights of Lemans has never been more enojoyable!! To compliment the lows for this system i am running a SVS Ultra 16 and its the icing on the cake!!
