The biggest reason why I think this lens is better than the Olympus 40-150 f2.8 is because of the size and weight. For sure the Olympus is a great lens, its just too heavy and bulky for a m4/3 system! I'll simply go with a FF camera. But this Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 is awesome. You can never get a 70-200mm f2.8 equivalent lens in this size and weight if you go FF. This is the biggest advantage of m4/3 system. The only thing I don't like is the design. It has a metal body, which is good, but somehow it has this blue, purple-ish color which doesn't match the camera body.

Great lens. Sharp and best of all light weight. I can easily carry 5 lenses where before I had to struggle to carry 3.

I purchased the Lumix GX8 with the base lens and it's a joy to hold and use. I needed something with a little more and bought the 35-100. It'a an amazing, light and powerful lens. I am so use to the heavy "pro" lenses that we all have used for years, I was a little leary of something this small and light. I was very surprised at the quality of the images. The 2.8 aperture allows me to to so much more at low light levels at very satisfactory ISO's. I love it and can't wait to build my lens inventory.

I've used this lens with an Olympus OMD E-M1 for a year. Lens IS is not an issue. I shoot stills only, no video. My rating/review is based on how I use the lens. Not the best walk around/street focal length, but usable in so many situations. I find the majority of my pictures that I really like were shot with this lens - not all, but 6 out of 10. The colors and contrast are just more involving (I'm talking straight out of the camera). You can focus close enough for individual flowers, portraits are very nice in the 45 to 60mm range (bokeh is nice in the center, drifts into football shapes at the edges) , enough reach for sports if you are relatively close. I use this lens primarily outdoors so f2.8 is adequate. It is very well built, has excellent resolution and is compact (which is why I bought into the micro 4/3 system to begin with - easy to travel and walk with and capable of great images). I would not consider the lens a bargain at the list price, but when the price drops (as it intermittently does) grab it. This lens is always in my bag,

I own the DSLR version of this lens, the 70-200 2.8. While this lens isn't on the same level, it's an amazing lens for any micro 4/3 telephoto needs. It's sharp and light weight. Autofocus speed is fine, though with this lens and my m43 cameras, it's not fast enough for sports and fast action. For that, i won't be replacing my DSLR / 70-200 2.8.

While I usually prefer to use cinema lenses in video productions, this lens has worked out very well for our smaller video projects. It has very good sharpness, is light weight (great for some of our run-and-gun shoots), and is set at an affordable price point (by comparison to higher-end glass). Love using this with our Lumix GH3 and GH4 cameras. Easy enough to pull manual focus on our live shoots, and provides a nice internal zoom, which is also intuitive to use. We use this 35-100mm lens in conjunction with the 12-35mm lens (does not have the internal zoom feature, unfortunately), and the two pair together very well. Great versatile product for the price.

If you want speed, sharpness,in a compact size zoom, this is a must! It's smaller than the Oly offering and it's a shorter zoom.

This camera fulfills all of my needs. This lens is razor sharp. Though I do very little video, it is good to know what a great video camera my GX8 is. My Nikon DSLR is now my backup camera, and I am glad to be rid of my boat anchor of a camera. The images are excellent. My only wish is for software similar to Nikon Transfer that provided a great start to the workflow by making automatic copies to a backup drive, ejecting the card and opening the Lightroom Import dialog all in one step.

I love this lens for stills. It has great contrast and I get lovely pictures from it. However it is horrible for video. I made a comparison on youtube of a video taken with my LX100 and GX7 with the 35-100/2.8 lens at the same focal length. The 35-100/2.8 lens clearly _ADDS_ shake to the captured image. I can do better (capture less shake) with the OIS off! This is even after the latest firmware upgrade in January 2015.

I was shocked after trying to use this lens for the first time for handheld video. The so-called optical image stabilization is worse than useless for handheld video -- it actually ADDS micro-shakes! I also have the 12-35 f/2.8, and it is wonderful all around, with perfectly usable OIS. If you want this lens for photography only, or for video using some other form of stabilization, then by all means, this is a very good lens. But do NOT expect to use this lens to shoot any handheld video using its OIS.

It is a bit spendy, but good glass costs. This lens is a pleasure to use, being sharp throughout its range. But do not expect to use the OIS stabilization for video. There is a known fault that causes micro shakes. It works fine for photos, but this is a tripod-only lens for video. Other than this one problem, it is a wonderful lens.

The optical qualities of the H-HS35100 lens are great. Overall focus speed is quite good, and I would see this being a very good lens for many still photographers. However, the OIS is absolutely horrible for video! It creates micro jitters that ruin video shots. My inexpensive Panasonic 14-140mm kit lens, and 12-35mm lens both have very capable OIS that I rely on frequently. I was shocked to see how poorly the 35-100mm lens' OIS performed. This has been confirmed by many other owners of the lens, and yet Panasonic does not seem to acknowledge the issue. Its a pity that such an otherwise wonderful lens would be so expensive and yet so flawed.

It's curious that the 4K video capture settings are grayed out in my GH4 video settings with this lens? 4K works great with the 100-300, F4.0-5.6.

This lens surprised me with its superb image quality, throughout the entire F-stop range, and also center-to-frame edge sharpness. It has the color character of the finest German lenses. Details really stand out with this lens. This lens is different from other less expensive lenses in the line-up because the body is metal, not hard plastic. This adds some overall weight to the camera, yet does not seem to put the camera out of balance when holding. The standard 58mm thread size is also a big plus, since many of my filters are 58mm. I would have to say this lens is in a class by itself.

It's a beautiful piece of glass, much like my Canon 70-200/2.8, but a lot lighter and smaller for Micro 4/3. It has a nice "feel" to the controls- smooth, but with an appropriate amount of resistance This will be my primary mid-range telephoto. It's small enough to carry as part of my standard kit. The main drawback is the cost. It's pricey for MFT, though it is a lot less than my Canon 70-200.

Great zoom lens for my new Panasonic gh3. Really enjoying camera and lens so far. This lens has a nice zoom range, and pulls in lots of light with the 2.8 aperture. I shoot mostly outdoors, especially nature and animals. Works well for me in those settings. Lightweight lens for this much zoom.

From the Manufacturer
The Panasonic LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100 (H-HS35100) represents a next step in digital interchangeable telephoto zoom lens design for LUMIX G Series cameras. Its constant F2.8 zoom is suitable for professionals and enthusiasts capturing a wide range of scenes from dynamic landscapes to available light and studio lit portraits, to high-speed sports action. Combine with the new Lumix GH3 Body and LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35 F2.8 lens for a complete package to meet the needs of today's most demanding professional multimedia photographers.
Featuring F2.8 high speed at entire zoom range, the new LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. lens offers a practical way of use with its versatile zoom range from a portrait or close-up shot with beautiful defocused background or a zoom shot of moving subject such as sports, birds and animals utilizing a fast shutter speed. This constant aperture can be practically used for video recording, too.
Complex lens structure
Comprising of 18 lenses in 13 groups, the lens system realizes uniform descriptiveness with its excellent contrast from the center to the corners, equable brightness at entire zoom range and high resolution. Notably, an UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens and 2 ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses minimize chromatic aberration and distortion.
Compact and lightweight
Despite its high optical performance, LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. boasts outstanding compactness and light-weight with approx. 99.9 mm in length and approx. 360g in weight for high mobility.
Nano Surface Coating
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology is adopted to minimize the reflection at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in the super clear picture with dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.
POWER O.I.S.
The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) which is newly integrated in the LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. effectively compensates for not only small, fast movement but al so large, slow one making it easy to shoot super clear shots even in low-lit situations such as in night time or indoors.
Inner focus system and stepping motor
It incorporates a superior inner focus system which enables excellent resolution and contrast from full life-size magnification to infinity. The overall length of the lens is fixed either in zooming or in focusing thanks to its unique mechanism. The inclusion of stepping motor makes the focusing action smooth and silent for use in both photo and video recording. When mounted on the Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) cameras of LUMIX G, users can take advantage of the high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF system.
Durable, stylish construction
Designed to stand against splash/dust with a rubber ring on the reliable metal lens mount, the sophisticated metallic-finished look of the LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. suits the profile of stylish camera body of LUMIX G. Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth defocus effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings.
