With its Canon Digital Drive handgrip unit attached, it's ideal for shoulder mount camera configurations commonly employed in ENG, broadcast, or cinema shooting. The lens also features a 16-bit high-precision microprocessor within the Digital Drive unit, enabling operators to pre-program focus and zoom position/speed, as well as iris settings, allowing for precise, repeatable performance.
The lens integrates strategic design features for intuitive, convenient operation. The lens barrel markings are clearly engraved in both feet and meters on both sides of the lens barrel, and focus indicators on the front side of the lens are marked on an inclined surface to make them easier to see from the back of the camera.
In addition, the lens features a 180-degree focus rotation angle, and both 0.8 type and 0.5 type gear module focus accessories can be used. The lens support shafts for support rods, a lens hood unit, and the ability to mount major power-driven accessories, matte boxes, and other standard options used by filmmakers are also included with the lens.

- High Zoom Magnification 7x:Coupled with an extremely versatile focal length that is continuously variable from 17mm to 120 mm. Its compact size and light weight include the same type of removable drive unit found on conventional broadcast-use ENG lenses, with ergonomics that provide a familiar feel that many ENG cameramen expect.
- 4K-ready optical performance: for digital cameras equipped with Super35mm CMOS sensors that offer four times the image resolution of conventional HD media. The lenses' high optical performance across a wide zoom range matches that of 4K single-chip, large-format digital cameras, for both cinema and broadcast applications
- 11-Blade Iris Provides Natural Bokeh: The use of an 11-blade iris produces artistic and beautiful out-of-focus areas or "Bokeh." The 11 blades allow for attractive circular blurring in out-of-focus regions, while the use of an odd number of blades helps reduce flaring of specular highlights.
- Designed for Cinema Style & Broadcast Applications: The lens incorporates a removable drive unit that provides remote control of the focus, zoom and iris/aperture settings. Focus indicators on the front side of the lens are marked on a beveled surface, making them easier to identify from the rear of the camera especially when mounted on a shoulder.
- Enhanced Servo Drive Unit: The LCD display enables users to easily access functions on the drive unit. User settings are also accessible from the drive unit. The drive unit can provide a very fast zoom speed of up to 0.5 seconds from end to end, or a very slow speed of 300 seconds. These can be changed using a toggle switch on the drive unit.
