Could be better

The concept of this tripod sounds great - a lightweight, small telescope mount and tripod with a rated payload capacity of 12 lbs! However, there were a couple issues with mine, and Skywatcher's customer service was less than stellar (pun intended). On the mount/tripod I received, the dovetail slot was too narrow - it would not accept the standard v-series dovetails equipped on my scopes. I contacted Skywatcher about it, and their response was basically "sounds like yours is out of spec, you could buy a replacement dovetail plate from ADM if you want", instead of offering to exchange my defective dovetail plate for a good one. Fortunately I work in a machine shop so I was able to modify it myself. Also, the legs utilize a "twist-lock" mechanism for holding them in the extended position. The twists on my unit are very rough and feel like they have sand in them, and one of them slides when much weight is applied. The mount itself seems decent, so maybe I'll just buy a better tripod
