This unit makes a nice slave to my 580EX II. It is light but not cheaply made. It would make a good alternative to the 580 as on on-camera flash if I needed something lighter, and could do with less power. So far I've been able to use my flashes with direct line of sight to each other- this is required with infrared triggered flashes.

I'm using this flash in my studio and out in the field and am amazed at the power output and superb color accuracy. No more correcting for color casts in software, I get true colors every time. I use this flash either with an omni-bounce or softbox attached and get even lighting across the entire image.

I wish flashes were less money, but they aren't. This one is a reasonable price for a great quality flash. It is important to not cheap out on a flash. If you are going to spend the money, you might as well spend a little more and get a better quality one.

I bought my first Speedlite from Adorama about 6 months ago. I loved it so much I just purchased a second Speedlite. I love the off-camera remote flash capability. I do a lot of real estate listing photography and the one Speedlite was great for lighting up a space or casting a soft light for nice texture and interesting shadows. This second unit more than doubles my pleasure. .doubles my fun!! Great buy!

I returned this product because is was too heavy. I was looking for a powerful speedlight for my Canon but this is too combursome

My first Speedlite, so exciting! There is quite a steep learning curve, but thanks to youtube and the manual, I am getting it figured out. The bounce flash ability is improving my indoor shots immeasurably!

Just added a second speed light to my camera bag. I am learning off camera flash and it was time to move up to two flashes. This is a great flash and works as advertised.

I use it on my 5DMKIII and it's fantastic. It has all the necessary features but doesn't cost a fortune and it is quite a bit lighter than the 600 series. One downside of this flash is that it cannot serve as a master if you are using multiple flashes.

I am a hobby user and with a new baby on the way and rather than spend a bunch of cash on a new faster lens for all the lower light photo's i'd be taking, I decided to try and expand my ability and get into flash photography. I'm still learning how to get the most out of it for off camera purposes, but it can be used as a slave with my on camera flash as the master which is cool for a novice like me. I mostly use it on camera now and bounce the flash for better fill in my pics. It has a wide range from off ceiling, can be swiveled to bounce off the wall behind or on a side if a lot of light is coming thru a window or something. It really evens out the pictures nicely. Far better than the on camera flash that is on the 60D. I haven't had any accidents with it, no drops or anything yet, so can't comment on it's toughness, but I'm hoping it's rather tough as I'm sure to drop it at some point.

I shoot senior pics on the side and this flash was very helpful in getting a great deal of light on my subjects. The remote trigger will be very helpful in future projects. It is hard to find limitations for this item in the work that I do.

I bought a full frame camera so I wouldn't have to use a flash. I have used prime lenses and I have gotten most of my shots. However, I didn't want low lighting to restrict my photos during the holiday season. I have strong side lighting through the front windows and this helps to counter that light. I would be able to get shots without the flash, but I wouldn't have been able to get excellent shots without this flash. It is excellent for fill, backlight, sparkle in the eye, and bounce. Using the camera menu for changing the exposure, and adjusting the flash through the camera menu is easy, and useful.

I use the flash for portraits of grandchildren, other indoor shots, and as a fill flash in landscapes.

1. Light weight. 2. Produces good amount of light. 3. I made my own reflector using foam and velcro, to bounce the light instead of buying a diffusor. Plans available online. These will improve the quality of photos. 4. Light may not be adequate in greater distances, then will need to tweak the settings to zoom the lens on this flash manually.

While this unit is a bit underpowered for my use as a wedding photographer, it does make a good slave flash for multi-flash setups, which are nice to have during wedding receptions. My only complaint is that it can't act as a master, like the 580exII or 600EX-RT, but for the price, I guess that's to be expected. Still, I was able to complete a wedding once when my 580exII got fried, and I was glad to have it!

The 430EX II is very well integrated with the Canon EOS 6D. It's cycle time is quite fast and operation with the 6D is very straightforward.

I received this product and it has been great. The swivel on the flash allows you to choose how much is direct and how much can bounce off the ceiling. It is pretty easy to use.

I used this flash on my Canon MarkIII for my first wedding... did everything I needed and then some. I won't shoot another without it.

Very dependable flash
By RANDOLPH B.
I was wondering why I have never bought a Canon flash before in my life. I have been using Sigmas for years and they were ok. I had extra money this last week and needed a flash so I thought maybe it's time to try out the Canons. Opened the box when I got it and was surprised how small the unit was compared to my Sigma. Tried it out and was satisfied with it the first day I had it. Next day was a fashion show, and I thought it was the perfect time to use this flash in real world photography...

Great flash - just learn how to use it
By Alicia B.
I bought this flash because a friend of mine wanted some portraits done, and while I'm no professional she trusted that I could do the job. While ideally I'd like to use good studio lighting, it wasn't an option. The on-camera flash is essentially useless so I'd been eying up a speedlite. With a little improvising and using both the avilable light and my new flash, the lighting on the pictures came out great. They key is to do as much reading up and practicing with it as you can if you're...

Bringing a new level of versatility and capability to flash photography, the Speedlite 430EX II features a powerful flash (guide number of 141 ft./43m at ISO 100) with a fast recycling time in a compact, durable body. A one-touch quick-lock mechanism makes it easy to attach or detach the 430EX II from the camera and a metal foot has been added for strength and durability.
Flash controls can now be set through the camera's LCD screen on compatible EOS Digital SLR cameras. The Speedlite 430EX II is also quieter, recycle time is 20% faster (as compared to the 430EX) and since it is compatible with Canon's wireless E-TTL, it can be used as an affordable "slave unit".
