Whether you are an Aspiring Film Maker to a Professional Videographer, to simply a Passion besides your day to day job; the Glidecam 4000 Pro Stabilizer is a must purchase if you are serious about stabilizing footage, especially if you are within a budget. Now, it is very important for me to say this first, however: Understand that this piece of equipment will work best if you have cameras lighter than 8 lbs if you are only purchasing the Glidecam. If your camera is as heavy or heavier than 8 lbs then consider purchasing additional parts to ensure your wrist, forearm and arm do not tire through your shootings or do not purchase this product at all. This product is not made for your average videographer as it requires careful planning, calculations and rehearsals or else you will not enjoy the true POWER behind this SMART design. Sure, if you wanted to spend thousands of dollars for proper stablization then of course you would be getting something completely different. However, if you are on a budget and know that stabilizing footage in your software is still not as great as if you could have done it on the field, then I would suggest for you to do one thing first: "Do some research before you purchase to ensure that you know exactly what kind of stabilization you need and if you truly need this or not." Once you are complete with your research then just choose from the best of the best within your budget. And for me, it was easy - Adorama had what I needed because of the great price and the Glidecam 4000 was what I wanted. I hope this helps you in deciding if this piece of equipment is right for you or not. Now, don't expect this to stabilize your shots like Hollywood or as if you had the addional parts including the VEST because unless if you want all of the addiontal parts, or spend thousands of dollars then this was not meant to do as such. But if you need on the go stabilization, are willing to practice and rehearse your shots before filming then this product is the right purchase for you at an affordable price. Now, remember, if you camera is far heavier than 8 lbs then this product may not be the right stabilization tool for you unless you purchase the additional parts to make this tool the ultimate tool to have. Every Film Makers or Videographers know that stable footage means greater footage, which in the end computes to a greater professional look and higher charge. I hope this review will help you decide whether this product is right for you or not, but it definitely was the right product for me even though I have a Canon XL H1a at 8 lbs. Yes, it is heavy on my wrist, forearm and arm but then if you calculate your shots, practice and rehearse them prior to your filming then you will be just fine, and your footage will look greater than the person who didn't have the stabilizer tool. with If your camera is under 6 lbs, here is my recommendation for you: "GET IT!" ... It will be one of your greatest investments if you are serious about your footage.

Don't listen to the people that write bad reviews about the Glidecam because, most likely, they are not balancing it correctly, and therefore, not getting good looking footage. You have to play with it a bunch and experiment with it to figure it out. Also, you can't just pick it up and expect to create amazing shots... it takes time and practice! If you get it, be patient and get used to it because it looks so dang good when you know what you're doing.

I use it for my canon 7d and thought it would be alot smoother but is really heavy and still moves around and is not worth it

Thing is tricky to balance...and way heavy to use for any period of time. Also you need to get the quick-attach attachment if you are going to use it - takes forever to hook-up. Probably need to buy the vest to support the weight.

Enter a realm where you are free to move with your camera - panning, tilting, booming or running without any camera instability or shake. Enter a place where super-smooth tracking shots, and the ability to shoot fluid traveling shots from moving vehicles are not just possible, they're a way of life. This is the world of the Glidecam 4000 pro.
The Glidecam 4000 Pro is a lightweight, hand-held camcorder stabilizing system designed for cameras weighing from 4 to 10 pounds.
The Glidecam 4000 pro is newly designed and now has a no-tools telescoping center post, a sleek and lighter base which allows you to quickly attach and dynamically adjust the counterweight disks, a foam handlegrip, a lighter gimbal with a more compact main bearing assembly and a new yoke design.
The combined results of our new design elements create a stabilization system that works so gracefully and professionally, you'll see why the idea of making a camera glide through the air isn't just a dream, it's a reality.
