D80 has a weight that lets you know you have a camera, the feel not plastic. bought mine in 2006 and I have not stopped using it until just this past August, it all of a sudden called ERR on the screen. I called Nikon, and the guy on the other end doesn't even know they have this camera (strange), and basically told me that there is nothing they can do for me. I feel like I am burying my best friend . This camera travelled with me thru rain, snow and desert shoots. It is the best camera I have so far.

I've recently started to get into photography again and wanted to get into it pretty seriously. Got my first digital camera in 9th grade years ago but then had it stolen and I stopped for years. I wanted to get back into it a few months ago and decided to take up on the Nikon COOLPIX L830. Very good point and shoot camera, but that's why I wanted to get away from it. It was only a point and shoot. I wanted to learn more technical details and aspects of photography and also wanted sharper images which the D80 is currently doing for me. I'm currently participating in a photo challenge (for fun) and I'm loving the way my pictures are coming out. Still a major learning curve and I've never taken any classes, but I'm having fun and learning small things everyday the more I practice.

The camera arrived fast. It is exactly like my old camera that I had a few years back. Again thank you you've definitely made me happy. Now it's time to try out some of the Adorama "how to" videos with my new camera!! I can't wait.

Saludos.

This is a great camera for a 12 year old beginner photographer. My dad gave this to me because he got the d7100. I have taken some really good pictures with this camera.

Although the D80 is an aging camera slipping into the void of obsoleteness, it still is a great camera for beginners (like me). It is fairly light and comfortable in the hands, the buttons are comprehensible and reasonably laid out. It is also quite fast and responsive. One thing to note is that at ISOs above 800-1600, things start to get grainy, so it is best to shoot in adequate light unless you have a tripod. To me, it is still a great camera although it has old technology and somewhat limited features e.g. 3 fps burst, only 10 MP CCD sensor, etc. I would rate it 4.5 stars but 5 is close enough!

I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA 2005. I USED A PENTEX MX FROM THE 70`S AS MY FIRST CAMERA. ALL MANUAL. I SAW THIS CAMERA AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.IT WAS HARD AT FIRST TO GET USE TO ALL AUTO STUFF.I AM JUST A HOBBYIST,BUT I TAKE A LOT OF ACTION /SPORT PHOTOS. I JUST LOVE HOW THE CAMERA GETS IT ALL WITH NO BLUR.I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA TO ANY ONE WHO IS A SERIOUS HOBBYIST, MINE CAME WITH A 18-135MM LENS.THIS CAMERA IS SO EASY TO USE . IT`S A GREAT CAMERA FOR CARTING AROUND. IT`S NOT LIKE AN ANCHOR AROUND YOUR NECK.

This camera has been lightly used for just under 4 years -- really only on vacations. It displayed the all too common error that these D80's have. The dreaded "ERR" displayed in the LCD top display. The diagnosis was a faulty aperture unit which had to be replaced. I had not used the camera for about 2 years when it first displayed this "ERR" -- didn't pay too much attention to it as I thought it was just something that had to be reset. I started using a different camera. After 2 years, I picked up my D80 again and decided to check out this "ERR" by sending to a service center. The good news is they diagnosed, repaired it and had it back to me in a week for a reasonable cost. But c'mon Nikon, between this and my Nikkor 80-200mm lens, I've just had too many serious problems!!

Bought a D80 a few years back as an upgrade from my D100 and have been perfectly content with it ever since. It did everything I needed it to do at the time and I still serves as a backup body in certain situations for me today. If you're not big on post-production editing, the D80 has several built-in features that can help correct some abnormalities you may find in your images. I highly recommend getting your hands on some good quality editing software if you're even semi-serious about photography, but some people aren't interested in interested in going that far in depth with their photos, and that's fine. The D80, with a few tweaks here and there, can still produce quality images and has a large enough display that you can still make reasonable edits on the fly. All in all, it's a great camera for someone who's just getting their feet wet with digital cameras or even serious photographers who just want to slap an 18-300mm lens on and take it on a hike, bike ride, or anywhere else that lugging around an expensive, pro-level body wouldn't be reasonable.

I bought the Nikon D-80 about six years ago. I like and I know there are way better out there and I will eventually buy but money is the problem. Anyway, I have taken hundredths in not thousandths of photo with D-80 and 90 % I like the way the photo come out.

I have had this camera since 2008. After two years of being the perfect camera it started to only capture every three pictures. When I took it in turns out it was the shutter. I guess this was being a common problem with the D80. They wanted 400 to fix it. Not happy that I would have to pay to fix something that was happening to many people. It just happened to be the one thing that was not covered on the warranty. I would recommend a different Nikon camera.

I bought this camera for use as a dedicated Infra Red body. It was as described, in Excellent Condition. It was a good camera in its day but has been long surpassed by later models such as the D200, D700, and D800E, all of which I own. But for the specific use I needed it for it is perfect. I removed the IR blocking filter and replaced it with Kodak Wratten #87 and use it solely for IR work.

I needed to upgrade slightly to take better pictures of my daughters cheerleading and Dancing. I ordered a used Nikon D80 DSLR and a inexpensive lens. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. The camera body was in considerably better condition than I had expected and was a very good upgrade for my low end amateur photography. I am now able to swap between modes on the camera and am even comfortable shooting in RAW on manual. The only negative i could possibly say and this is stretching just to find a negative, would be that maybe the neck strap and original software could have ben included. Both of which are truthfully not that important and easily obtainable for a minimal cost.

I bought this camera a few years ago, and didn't use it too much. I recently went to use it and I got this err message. From my search online it seems that this error is very common and ultimately it requires the user to send the camera to a technician and most customers recommend just buying a new camera. This seems like a problem with a camera and I would expect Nikon to stand behind their product more.

overall it is a pefect camera. the only thing i miss from my d3000 is the nice graphic user interface. In the d80 most of the settings are in the menu or on the small LCD. But I shoot for quality. I really wanted a camera that allowed me to use older Nikon lenses, this does just that and does it very well.

overall a great camera, I previously had a Nikon d3000 and loved the user interface, but did not like being limited to newer lenses. The D80 is great, i can get over not having a modern user interface.

Good cam, but a bit dated compared to the D3100's of the world, especially at high ISO.

This is my second D80 and will be used to back up my other D80. The Adorama rating of E was most generous. There isn't a mark on the body. It looks brand new and works the same. I use my D80's for all types of photography and they are definitely up to the task. 10.2 megapixels are plenty for beautiful definition and resolution on any level.

Read all the reviews from photo mags. It is a fantstic camera, and it's only real limitation will be the user, not the hardware. Having owned a D70s and a Rebel XT before, I can say this is clearly the winner of the three. Image quality is fantastic, and although the jump from 6mp to 10mp isn't as much as you would actually think, it does make a slightly noticeable difference on large prints. In terms of ease of use, speed, etc - if you have owned a Nikon D70s or D50 before, you'll feel rig...

Love my D80 as much as I did my F3!
By Old C.
I was given the D80 as a Christmas gift in 2006. My wife said, "Now you can get rid of that old film thing and join the modern world." I never thought that any new fangled, plastic-bodied, digital could replace my trusty old F3. I figured this D80 thing would last maybe two years if I was lucky. But I smiled and sold the F3 to show how appreciative I was for the gift. Now here we are 6 years and thousands of images later and I haven't had a single problem or issue. I'm able to take far better...

The D80 features a 10.2 effective megapixel Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor. Optimized to capture sharp details & yield extraordinarily high-resolution images, this new sensor provides plenty of freedom to crop creatively or print impressive enlargements. And its class-leading resolution is only matched by itsability to outperform its predecessors.
One of the key advances in the D80 is its high-resolution image-processing engine. A dedicated new high-performance system large scale integrated processing chip greatly accelerates performance on all levels, while also consuming less power than its predecessors.
The D80 starts up in a mere 0.18 seconds, so is ready to shoot immediately. Its short shutter release time lag of just 80 milliseconds helps ensure instant response while shooting, as does the fast & precise focus of the new 11-area AF system with AF-assist illuminator. Images are processed & recorded extremely fast while preview images are displayed instantly.
Capable of shooting a rapid 3 frames per second in continuous bursts of up to 100 JPEG images, the D80 makes it easier to stay on top of the action or to capture those unexpected yet precious picture opportunities.
The EN-EL3e rechargeable lithium-ion battery increases energy capacity to deliver enough power to shoot as many as 2,700 images per charge.
Consistently dependable exposure is the hallmark of Nikon's exclusive 3D Color Matrix Metering II. Exclusive in-camera image editiing features under the D80's retouch menu help insure consistently satisfying results & greater creative freedom in the field.
Nikon's highly robust i-TTL flash control evaluates flash exposure with greater precision to achieve better automatic flash balance & deliver outstanding results. The D80 incorporates a large, new 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD monitor that provides an ultra-wide 170-degree viewing angle. Images can be previewed at up to 25 times magnification to help accurately assess sharpness.
Refinements to the new 11-area AF system ensure consistently fast & precise focus acquisition under varying shooting conditions, all while adding effective new focusing options. The D80 incorporates 7 Digital Vari-Programs (Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Macro Close up, Sports, Night Landscape, Night Portrait)
Optimization of sharpening, contrast, color, saturation & hue is controlled by the choice of Normal, Softer, Vivid, More Vivid, Portrait, Custom & Black & White. A new eye-level optical viewfinder features large magnification (0.94x) & helps ensure a clear view for precise composition. The diopter adjustment control knob also makes it easier to fine tune the view to match eyesight.
The D80 offers a variety of built-in slideshow options, including style selections such as the Pictmotion option that control transitions & background music. Enjoy on the camera's 2.5-inch LCD monitor, or on a television with audio when connected via supplied AV Cable.
