Had to purchase an additional unit, had such good results with the 1st unit that decided to have both my Cameras equipped with WFT. Might be a little pricey and beware very easy to misplace since unit is small and compact

I have not fully tested the range claim but can say that in a basketball arena it sends to a router at the other side at good speed. Setup could be tricky for someone that doesn't know how to configure wifi. I went right through it but I do some support there. It is not hard, but is meticulous to detail. You have to follow the instructions exactly. Compatability. That it isn't a standard module for all 1 series bodies or all Canon bodies with the port, come on Canon. A different one for each camera so you can't move it from one to the other? I only bought this because it was half price with the 1DX2 package. Would NEVER pay full price. OK, on price. I understand it is a limited production and thus considerably higher price because it is not mass produced. Even so it is a wifi hot spot. The technology is not that expensive. If it were compatible across all cameras with the port it could be a single device with firmware update for new cameras. Then it would sell a lot more, be more mass produced, and affordable as well as profitable. So for a superior product I ding it 2 stars, one for the price and one for the build in obsolescence and limited capacity. If you need it, get it. If you have plenty of money, get it. If not hang on and hopefully Canon will get it together. CPS Platinum member.

I bought the WFT-E8A primarily for using it with Canon's Camera Connect App to control my 1D X2 wirelessly via my iPhone 7 Plus. I've recorded my first video test (4K) with this setup, on 3/26/17 using the WFT-E8A. So far I've only tested the AF touch screen. In spite of the glare on the iPhone I was able to nail focus by simply touching the part of the shot on the iPhone screen, that I wanted in focus. This was a dynamic scene at a pond with Ibis birds hiding behind branches and ducks diving underwater and swimming along a good 6o ft. away. I'm very happy with the purchase and the results, I'm seeing so far. The only caveat for me was the user guide, in addressing the Smartphone setup instructions, it could have been clearer for me, but I finally got it. Hey Adorama, do a video tutorial on WFT-E8A Camera Control.

This product is likely to go back. I can't find anyone knowledgeable to support it. There are less expensive alternatives out there for the number of times I would need to use it.

When I first got this I could make it work using access points but could not directly connect my Android phone to the camera. (iPhone may be different -- I don't know). It works great once you get it working.... see below for what I had to do. If you are trying to directly connect your phone to the camera (no access point), you may experience the same problem I did. To explain.... you start by setting the camera up for smartphone access, and then you go into WiFi settings on your phone and connect to the camera's WiFi. The phone however will check to see if it can connect to the internet using the camera's WiFi, which it can't. This means the Camera Connect app will not be able to use this WiFi connection to connect to the camera. You can fix this problem, and the fix is different, depending upon your phone. Some phone have a SmartSwitch option (in WiFi settings) which forces them to ONLY use connections that can access the internet and you need to turn this OFF. If you are running pure Android (e.g. a Nexus), you will get a warning on the phone once you connect to the camera's WiFi that says it cannot access the internet. If you tap on the warning, you will then be able to tell the phone to use this connection even though it does not have internet access. I'm giving this 4 stars because it was so difficult to get working and the lack of documentation from Canon. However I will give them praise for working with me until we figured this out (took both of to get it fixed!).

This is required if you need wireless file transfer or remote shooting capability. While the device is marked AC, the device does down sync to BGN as well. The canon menu is a bit too interactive but once its set up, its easy to use. There are also a number of 3rd party remote shooting apps for iphone or tablet use that are better than canon camera connect. Its a bit pricey but oh well. Just like everything else made by canon, they own my bank account.

The only downfall is, that I wish the Canon 1DX Mark II had wifi built in.

I've actually not received mine yet but if the performance is anything like my "E6A" it will be awesome though I expect it to be faster. My "E6A" never misses a beat and over the past 3+ years I've relied on its flawless delivery to satisfy my clients and surprise them with instant proofing delivery via an iPad or MacBook using Airdrop or sending to a large screen, projector or directly emailing the files immediately.
